Difference between Reserved and Preferred Viewing at WOC

I have searched and can't find the difference between the two, except that Dinner at Ariel's or Wine Country Trattoria give you one and the picnic and lunch at Trattoria give you the other. What is is the actual viewing area difference between Reserved and Preffered? Is it worth the extra $ to go to the dinner?

the prefered standing area is by far less crowded. you don't have to queue up as early as the colored sections. The picnic gives you a fastpass without having to wait in the fastpass line.

Preffered viewing is it's own viewing area which is part of the dinner packages. The Reserved viewing is the rest of Paradise Park. Which you can get from lunch, a picnic or WoC FP.

IMO, if you're staying onsite, there is little reason to pay for a meal if you're ok with the regular viewing area (I would do the dinner for the preferred area if that is important to you). Onsite you can enter early via GCH and get a blue fastpass before they let anyone else in. You may end up with a yellow fastpass if you do either of the dining options.

Did I miss something? I thought the fast passes were distributed randomly and so getting in earlier would not guarantee the blue section?

Can non Disney land hotel guests go into DCA park early? I thought guests who bought a bonus Dl hopper pass got to go into a park early one day?

I may have misread the WOC thread, but it sounded like they do blue fastpasses, then yellow, and on for the first show. Then repeat if there is a second one.

Yes, you can get in one hour early to DISNEYLAND on select days (one day per parkhopper that is 3 days or more). But if you stay on site you can use the DCA entrance to get into DCA early every day (though not much is running if I remember right, if anything), solely to have first dibs at the FP machines for WOC.

Not sure what your question is really about. But here is what happens at DCA:

Official opening time - 10AM - for everyone

Unofficial opening time for many years - 9:30AM - for everyone, with only one ride operating - Soarin

Special early opening for DLR hotel guests - 9AM - since June 2010 for the sole purpose of getting WOC FPs

please see and read the WOC standing chart..this will give an explanation as to what FP you want and what one you get with what meal....

Thanks funball. So I missed something.

We did the preferred dinner as a special treat when we went, and while the show was good it's not a "OMG must see again" for me. We do the special seating for Fantasmic every year and I will do it next year for sure, but right now I don't really think I have to go and see WOC again.
