Difference between PS and Reservations, if any?

Is there is difference between PS and making reservations to a restaurant or character meal?

From what I have read, the terminology is interchangeable. Also, is there a way to get any sort of confirmation of a reservation? I trust the dining services department but, that is a long time to keep accurate records.

Thanks.

You're right. The terms are used interchangeably. A PS isn't exactly a reservation. Here's a definition from allearsnet.com

CAN I MAKE RESERVATIONS?
The answer to that is yes and no. For table service restaurants, Disneyland does not accept reservations, instead they offer something called "Priority Seating." (NOTE: Even though Walt Disney World in Orlando recently switched to the more conventional term "Advanced Dining Reservations," Disneyland still calls them "Priority Seatings.") You are told to check in at the restaurant's podium at least 5-10 minutes prior to your seating time, and will receive the next available table for your party size. Depending on how busy the restaurant is, you may still have to wait 5-15 minutes before you are seated. You can make your Priority Seating for all Disney and Downtown Disney restaurants EXCEPT Rainforest Cafe by calling 714-781-DINE (3463) up to 60 days in advance. You may also make them on-site at Guest Services at the theme parks and the Disney hotels. Phone lines are open from 8 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Pacific time. (For Rainforest Cafe, contact the restaurant directly at 714-772-0413.)

Be aware that Disneyland Dining does not provide a confirmation number for Priority Seating arrangements - frequent WDW visitors may find that a bit disconcerting.

Though Disneyland Dining may make note of special requests (such as waterside seating at Blue Bayou), please note that they are simply requests and NOT guaranteed. Mention them at the podium when you check in, but be aware that any special requests are likely to increase your wait time, probably significantly.

NOTE: All Disneyland Resort restaurants are NON-smoking.

When we go to WDW I get a printout of my ADR's from the front desk of my resort. Since you don't get a confirmation #, I don't believe you can do this at DLR. If I make a PS at DLR it's usually the same day (in the a.m. for lunch or dinner) so I don't worry about getting a #. You can make them on the same day but no sooner than 1 hour before.

hear they are doing away with the phrase "Priority Seatings" and will be calling them "Reservations" from now on.

They use the term "Priority Seating" instead of "reservation" to emphasize the point that you are not assured a seat at the time stated, but that you will be given priority to a table that is first available after your PS time. It's terminology.

They don't give confirmation #s like at WDW. You just need your name and number of people in your group. They keep accurate records just like any restaurant. :)

Yep.

Glendalais posted this change (used to work at DLR, now works at WDW, but keeps in touch with DLR info, if memory serves) just the other day.
