We just got bumped up from a water view room at CSR to a standard view at AKL? My daughter wants to know what makes a deluxe resort so much better. I've never stayed at either but I'm assuming the rooms are nicer but what else makes it worth the extra $$$ to stay at a deluxe resort?

Thanks, Jack

In your case it's not much of a bump. The standard rooms at the AKL are four square feet larger than those at the CBR, but because they have two queens in them they actually feel smaller.

They overlook the parking lot, some are actually directly on the path you take to get to the bus stop.

That said, the AKL itself is gorgeouos, and the ability to view the animals is incredible. There are plenty of viewing areas you can use even though you won't see them from your room.

The corridors are interior as opposed to outside, nice when the weather is inclement, you'll get off the bus at a covered stop, walk under a canopy all the way into the lobbby.

The gift shop at the AKL is the best on WDW property, it's an incredible infusions of African themed items and Disney themed items.

The lobby at the AKL is jaw dropping. Simply stunning.

Otherwise it's about the same at either resort. I would still take the AKL over the CBR only to get the queen beds as opposed to the doubles.

Anne answered for you the difference between your ressie at CSR and what you now have reserved at AKL.

The differences though in general between a moderate and a deluxe resort are:

moderate rooms are usually a bit smaller than the deluxes

moderate resorts do not have valet parking - deluxe resorts do

moderate resorts do not have room service -- although they do have pizza delivery available usually. Deluxe resorts do have room service though.

Turndown service comes with many of the deluxe resorts but is not available at the moderates.

The deluxe resorts have interior enterances (nice in rainy weather) - moderates have exterior enterances

HTH's some;)

I love CSR as a moderate, but AKL is really heaven on earth! The deluxes are just more luxurious and relaxing. You don't have to go outside to get to the food, gift shop, you have a balcony and yes, request that turndown service. I would try to upgrade to at least a pool view. We had one there and it was really nice. Boma and Jiko are both excellent.
