Can anyone tell me the difference between cat's 5 & 6 ? They are listed as exactly the same ammenities, square feet, ect. - is the difference just the location on the ship? Is one better than the other? Thanks.

I think they are the same. Maybe Cat 5 is on deck 7 and cat 6 is on deck 6. Other than that, I don't believe there is much difference. :confused3

That may be true but someone who lives in the mountains may feel the Ocean is Location Location Location or the otherway around. :earsboy:

I am guessing a Cat 6 is more desireable but Y I dont kow

I think Cat 5 and 6 are the same. I think the big difference is that there are less people on Deck 7 ( Cat 5). I added it up and with so many extra Cat 11's on Deck 6 it could be as many as 100+ people.
We stayed in Cat 5 our first time and loved it and this time we are going to try the Cat 6 to see if there is really any difference of the amount of people.
I love staying in the rooms with verandahs because I grew up by the beach and now live a days drive away and miss the ocean alot. But if I didn't love the ocean so much I would pay less and just get a Cat 11. In other words I think most of all the cabins on Disney seem great from what I have heard just depends on what makes you happy.

The thing that made us choose 5 over 6 was the number of stairs my mother would have to climb while sailing with us. I keep hearing how slow the elevators are, so I thought it was worth the extra money to be one deck closer to everything.

Deck and cost are the only differences.

If you have children, and the photo in your post show children, deck 6 is one level above the children's clubs. When our daughter was young we always had a midship cat. 6. It was easy to take her in to the clubs and pick her up. Yes, it is farther away from Topsider's and the pool but it is closer to the clubs and the restaurants. Have fun picking your stateroom. We stayed in Cat. 6 both 7 days cruises we took. Elevators aren't really slow, obviously stairs are faster.

Beware the solid walls on cat. 5's aft. And in a few, including 7132 that we were in, straight walls st the foot of the bed, without a notch, mean there will not be the steamer trunk for storage as in most other rooms, and we were even missing come closet shelving.

But yes, popping up two flights of stairs to deck 9 for the pool and drinks and buffet and deck parties is no problem,so we like deck 7 as a location. But next cruise back to cat. 8, forward, so wont have to walk the length of the ship to and from Oceaneer's lab or the basketball court, the two places DS lives during a cruise.

Thanks for all the good info - I was leaning towards a cat 6 - the location should be good for my daughters to be close to the oceaneer club, and it appears to be about mid-ship, so my dh won't get too seasick as this is his first cruise!!!
