Hi,

We're booked for a gty catagory 9 now. I saw that a catagory 8 is availabe but 500.00 more. I looked on the description and it sounds the same. Can someone please tell me what the difference is between the two? Better location?

Thanks,
Deb

HI, I found this in the stateroom descriptions..

category 9 staterooms located on deck 1 have two smaller porthole windows. At 214 sq. ft., these staterooms sleep 3 (with some sleeping 4) and they are among the first categories to book on the ship, as the price on these staterooms is very competitive. Each room contains one queen bed (or two twin beds) a single convertible sofa, and a split-bathroom design. Category 8 staterooms are located on decks 5,6 and 7. Category 9 staterooms are on decks 1 & 2. Picture: A category 8 with a porthole view.

It really is the same room, and all depends what your preference is..Some people love to be higher..Personally, lower is better, less motion..ALthough there is deck 7 with the secret deck... :confused3 SOrry, I am no help... :goodvibes

Ah...so it sounds like the catagory 9 has 2 small windows, where catagory 8 has 1 very large window.

Hmmm...I like the big window! The deck doesn't matter much to me. Maybe they'll give me an upgrade ;)

Category 9 can have the big window too, just make sure you are on deck 2 instead of deck 1. We booked a Category 9, deck 2., with the one big porthole. Our TA recommended Category 9, deck 2 over an 8. He said the benefits of an 8 are barely noticeable to most and not worth the added cost. Basically (my understanding... may be wrong wouldn't surprise me) with an 8 you are closer to the activities and kids club which might be nice if you are picking up a sleeping kid late at night. With a Cat 9 you are closer to meals and getting off the ship. With a 9 there is less motion which is good if you may be prone to seasickness (this is what sold me). Some Category 9's are known to be nosy, so check into which room you have, if you know.

We are doing a cat 8 in Jul/06 simply because the ONLY place I found on the ship that has two *SETS* of connecting rooms side by side. Normally if you want connectors there are usually two staterooms in BETWEEN the connectors that are just regular rooms so your party has to be spaced out. On deck 6 forward, 6524 connects with 6526 (cat 8's) and 6528 connects with 6530 (cat 6's). We needed 4 staterooms and wanted to all be together.

If this wasn't the case, we would do a cat 9.

cat 10 on deck 5, Secret porthole rooms 5022 and 5024 also 5522 & 5524

have the large portholes and connect..

and it is less money and Deck 5 is a great Spot..

We're in 5520 this October. We'll see how the SPH really is!

In response to OP:
yes, the ONLY difference between category 8 and category 9 (deck 2) is location. The category 9's on deck 1 differ only in the portholes as noted, but there aren't very many of them.

The location could be an issue if you are underneath one of the clubs that gets noisy late at night, but I have no experience with this.

Thanks Everyone! We're waiting now for room assignments. I'm sure when we go on the cruise we'll book again. We'll book the Secret Porthole room then :)

Thanks!

Deb

Deb- We are booked for Cat 9 Deck 2 on our cruise. Have you done this category before?

Hey Wendy,

No, this is our first time in catagory 9. We've stayed in 10, 11, and 12. We really wanted a veranda, but none are available.

You'll have to tell me what the cabins like ;)

Hi dairyou,
We had connecting cat 9s on deck 2 last time and loved them !!! The 8s would be nice if you had small children in strollers...closer to the kids clubs, but the 9s on deck 2 are wonderful. So close to the restaurants, and convenient when you're getting back on the ship from a port. Had I known how nice they were I'd have booked a 9 for the repo. You can sit on the couch and watch the water...very relaxing.
