Difference between CAT 11 vs. CAT 12?

Mainly it's the locations...Cat 11's are on decks 5,6 and 7...with the Cat 12's on deck 2 forward. They are both inside staterooms, with 184 sq ft... Oh...and cat 12's only sleep 3 people where cat 11's sleep 3-4 people.

Basically they are the same. There is only 12 Cat12 cabins, so it seems their only real reason for existance is so they can have marketing material that says things to the effect of "prices start at $$$", but you will be paying more.

Are you sure that they only sleep three? I just booked two Category 12 rooms with the onboard special and booked four people in each. The big selling factor for this category is the chance of an upgrade. We booked Cat 12 for our 2/26 cruise and was upgraded to an 11 on deck 5. There were only two of us in one room and three in another... so... you have me curious now if the two rooms of 4 that we just booked for 2/06 are almost a definate upgrade (if 12's are only for 3).

Hi all, I'm new to the DISboards! :wave2: My DD and I will be cruising for the first time next April 1-8, 2006 on the Eastern itinerary. We are so excited!! She will be 7 then.

Anyway, I heard that the Cat. 12 rooms are under the dance floors of the clubs and could be kind of loud at night.

The cat 12 only sleeps three. We were able to book a cat 12 gty for our last cruise, and we had 4 people. We knew that we would at least get a cat 11, but we ended up in a cat 9. I don't know if all travel agents will do this. We checked prices everywhere, and most agents told us that the cat 11s were sold out. They didn't offer us the cat 12 gty. I don't know why some do and others don't.

It's very common to book a Cat. 12 guarantee for four...it's the only way to guarantee an upgrade! But you just have to be aware that you could end up in a noisy room via your upgrade.

We were in Room 2013, cat 12, last week. We were at the front of the ship. I have no idea what was above us, but our room was very quiet, and we slept like rocks.

When you get an upgrade, do you have to pay extra? Or is it given to you?
