Diez (10) Noches Calientes en la Riviera Mexicana/17 de abril 2011 (4.17.11 Wonder!)

I"d like to "second" Cayla's comments about ship tours, etc. We did the stage tour (adults only) on the Magic and it was very interesting (and free, by the way). We've never done the galley tour, but hope to this time. Does anyone have any more info on this one? Also, Cayla is also "spot-on" regarding the wine for dinner as well. We've done the same thing and the only problem I see is how to get enough on board for a 10-night cruise! I guess the kids' carry-ons are going to get a little heavy (lol). Cayla...what's your secret on this?

I have been lucky enough to have an engine room tour as well...that was AWESOME!!! Very loud...but amazing! The galley tour is usually only offered on longer cruises...so you should be in luck. Going "back stage" is very interesting, the ship really is a small city. At the end of the tour you get a fresh baked cookie (yumm). I have a photo somewhere of the soup pots...they each (there are 4 or 6 I don't recall) hold 2500 gal of soup :scared1::scared1:..big enough for a bath...I (of course) got the immeidate visual of Bugs Bunny being made into soup (remember that cartoon?) it was hard not to laugh at the poor officer giving the tour because of the visual image in my head (I whispered it to my traveling companion and she also was trying not to laugh!)

as far as carrying on wine...I do not need to use a large carryon bag to fly, so I pack a rolling one that is max size inside my checked bag if I have weight space, if not...I take a very empty carryon. Then I repack everything) using the expansion area of the checkd bag to put everything I can in that bag. Then I have a rolling bag to carry on...and I have a VERY heavy carryon bag! I have taken as many as 23 bottles onboard with me...always in Florida...I have some concerns about the TSA guys in Calif...not sure they will understand as well as the very kind folks in FL. Rule is - you HAVE to carry it on...DO NOT PUT IN CHECKED/PORTERED BAGS. They will confiscate it. DO put your wine key in the checked bags..the knife will trip the TSA alert thingys.

Also - you can buy wine or liquor in port as well...When I did the Baltic I was trying to buy a bottle in each port to drink that night at dinner...worked out pretty well! I carried on 14 bottles of hard cider in Dover that were in small cask shaped bottles...perfect for the Pirate party (which was VERY cold I might add!)

Great tips Kel - thanks :thumbsup2 I've noticed lots of recommendations for the shoe organizers - the line for the togs is a great one - better make a list of things to get at Walmart when we get to LA!

This might be a silly question, but where do the kids eat on the night we go to Palo?

Shoe organizers are great for all the small things that tend to collect in the cabin.

Kids can eat at the regular table (depending on the age of course) and the servers will help them out! I have seen (on one cruise a few years back) 2 teenage kids that ate alone every dinner...the parents showed up the first night to get them set...we never saw the parents again! The kids were at a table by themselves so the staff shifted them to another table that had other teenagers...worked out well. I finally couldn't stand it anymore and had to ask why they ate alone every night...some medical issue and the parents had to eat in the cabin. I have seen kids as young as 4 eating without parents in the dining rooms...so you will be able to get your kids fed!

Ditto to that!

Helen, I was going to ask the same question if this group wants to set up our own tasting. I'm not sure if someone with a concierge room has to initiate the request though. I know Rob who organized it on the med cruise has a Cat 3 room.

I don't think it has to be conceirge - I have been to private tastings hosted by folks on deck 2...but I have to second the person who said there is already a lot to do. I think someone would have to set it up through DCL - check with the champagne girls host - she is doing that type of thing.

For those who are looking for the "how to pack" answer...PM me...I can pack for 6 weeks in one checked bag and one carry on...all within weight limits (very very close to 50 & 23 pounds ) I am willing to share my secrets and packing lists to those who are interested.

OK - we are 43 days away from sailing & I just now found this board! Where have I been?! Working, I guess... This is our 3rd time cruising with DCL (1st time for our youngest). Though it's been a long time since our last (2004) - been waiting for the little one to get old enough to really enjoy the experience.
I've been reading some of the older posts & it sounds like everyone has a lot of great advice & tips to share. Must read more...

Did anyone else get the e-mail from DCL regarding ordering Easter gift baskets for the cruise? Now I'm WONDERing again if I should invite Easter Bunny to visit our room.
I didn't get this email.:confused3What did it say?

Since we have early dining, we take the kids to dinner in the restaurant and then take them to the club.

This has really be the work week from hell...can we please start this cruise, like tomorrow. No, how about now! :thumbsup2
HAPPY FRIDAY!:cool1:

The youths are smaller than I thought. I can wear it, but I need to stretch it to get around my hand. Once on it is fine.
I just sent $ via paypal. my wrist is really small...maybe I should have ordered a youth size for myself instead of an adult? I didn't even think of that. Do you have extra youth sizes or no?

Hi Michelle, I have plenty of extra youths. More youth than adult actually. I guess I have an "average" size wrist, it fits me fine but I have to stretch it around my hand. I got your payment, thanks. PM me your mailing address when you get a chance and I will get yours mailed out tomorrow.

Kristi - Is it too late to get the wristbands? Just recently found this board & am thinking that we would like to get in on the fun. Though I don't know if I can keep up -- some of you sound pretty crazy! :rotfl2: Wish I would have known about the FE's earlier....

OHHHH we would be all over that too

Has anyone gotten their documents yet? I am letting my OCD get the better of me...mine haven't shown up...sigh...

I did this list on another thread...but it applies here as well:

Transport to Airport: check
Confirm of E-Ticket: check
Cruise docs: ?!?!?!?!??!

not so priceless :(

Ah, I forgot to give you my address. I will pm you now, thanks!

Something that I just learned: not all rooms can accommodate 4 people. Well, I already knew this but had forgotten. Apparently dh did not remember the room category I booked and had me change it to a verandah room last night. According to the DCL site there were several rooms available however, only ONE would accommodate four people, the others only sleep 3. So maybe this is the reason who DCL did not upgrade more families with 4 to verandah rooms?:confused3

Virdis, your thoughts please?:goodvibes

Me too! (meaning some kind of liquor tasting)
Why don't we all just call DCL, tell them we're together, ask for the Walt Disney Suite, and camp out together? I saw a tour of the Roy Disney suite (well done, I might add) on Youtube... looks spacious. I bet the Walt Disney one is even bigger! We'd be whooping it up all night... would need another cabin for the kids to sleep in though... adjoining cat 2?!?! could you imagine?
DH would be booking the "rasul" every day!!! (if you know what I mean)
party:

LOL sounds like LOTS of us are on deck 2 we could all just bring our own and take over the deck and have our own tastingsssssssssss heehee :rotfl::rockband:party:
