Dieting for Disney

WOW!! What a great thread. I can't believe how many of us want to look great for Disney. I need to drop about 25 pounds. I go to a gym and have to meet with my personal trainer (she's scary) every week--talk about motivation. Good luck and I hope everyone reaches their target weight loss!!!

This is awesome 100 posts of people with the same goal on mind. Wanting to be healthier for Disney. I am glad to say since starting this thread I am down 2 pounds.

I've lost my first 2lbs. :cool1:
That means $10.00 Disney Dollars!!! :cool1:
DH needs to take a trip to the Disney Store!

How is everyone doing? Tomorrow will be 2 weeks since I started getting serious about my weight loss for disney. So far down 3-4 pounds (varies by a pound daily). Not bad! I miss my ice cream though! Only 15 more to go before Disney. For motivation, I tried on my shorts from last summer, which was right after DD#2 and they're way too big....tried on my goal shorts, and although, they don't fit good...before not even close. Good luck everyone!

I'm down 3 pounds--I'm not brave enough to try on smaller clothes yet!!!! Keep up the good work everyone:cool1:

Minnie824-I found the most amazing ice cream-on WW, it's 3 pts. for 1/2 cup and is worth it!! It's Edy's slow churned Fudge Tracks-it's van. ice cream with fudge swirls and, get this, mini peanut butter cups!!!! :cool1: It's low-fat!!! :cool1: It's my once-a-day treat!
I've lost 3lbs. so far-and am very motivated to continue!! :sunny:

I'll have to try that ice cream! I would think any of the slow churned ones would be ok, right? I think I'll buy some...at first I just felt that if I had any ice cream, it would lead me to want Cold Stone more! But, I think I do need to eat some, and if that ones good, its better than nothing. Thanks!

The Edy's kind is 1/3 less fat/calories-I don't know about any other type of slow churned... :confused3
We're just getting the Cold Stone type places here-I think I'll try to stay away as I've heard they're addicting!

I weigh in tomorrow night...crossing my fingers that my scale is very close to the one at WW-if it is, I've done well this week! :flower:

Thanks, good luck at your weigh in! I reread my post, sorry it wasn't clear...I meant any flavor of the Edy's slow churned, not just the Fudge Tracks, should be good. I don't know if there is another brand slow churned? Thats what I get for talking on the phone and typing here at the same time! cold stone - very addicting...I knew the owner of our local store up until 2 weeks ago! She probably misses me by now. haha.

Yes-I think all of the slow churned Edy's are probably about the same! :sunny: Sorry, I misunderstood! ;)
Thanks for the wish of good luck-I'll let you know after tonight's meeting!!

Anyone else on the 'Picture Perfect' weight loss program? I'm finding that to be a wonderful help. Basically it is a 'food awareness' program where you learn how to choose the lower calorie alternatives and still get to eat whenever you want and as much as you want. No point system or food deprivation or set amounts of foods involved. So it is easy to follow in 'real life', and is not a restrictive diet. It's really working out well for me & DH.

In just the past couple of weeks, I've already lost c. 10 lbs. on this program. And that was just by being more aware of the food choices that I make, without increasing my exercise routine. Eating lots of fresh fruits and veggies, fish/seafood, and whole grains... which is healthier all around. Subbing frozen yogurt and Italian ices in place of the higher calorie ice cream, etc.. Did you know that a plain bagel alone is 400 calories--yikes! So when we crave carbs, we substitute a hearty grain honey wheat English muffin instead, for just 140 calories. Simple, yet satisfying. And we're finding that we actually tend to enjoy the low cal alternatives and can eat more of them and feel more satisfied while still losing weight.

Learning to pay more attention to product labels relative to calories too. Pretty exciting, as we've already found a salad dressing that we really like that is *0 calories*! I had no idea they even made such things. With this program, you stock your pantry & fridge with primarily 'healthy' & low cal food choices so that you can 'snack' whenever you feel hungry and not have to worry about it later.

Any ways, I still have 20 more lbs. to go before my Disney trip in October. That's just 2 lbs. per week, which should not be too difficult to shed (I hope).

Best wishes to everyone here in reaching their own personal goal weight!

I haven't done as well as I have wanted so far.I had a hard weekend-my boys played in a ball tournament out of town and I didn't plan ahead. But I didn't gain.I will try again this weekend.
On the topic of ice cream. My favorite low calorie option is WW sundae cones. You can get vanilla or chocolate. They are delicious.
I thought I would share my inspiration. My dad has been overweight as long as I can remember. It has kept him from doing alot that he wanted to do.As of Sunday at WW he has lost 98 lbs. :cheer2: And I am feeling overwelmed by 10.He still has a way to go but he us doing great.
MOMOFMNM-I wish I could go to the YMCA.Here it is very expensive.I also keep 4 kids in addition to my 4.I am trying to take walks while the boys practice in the evening.Every little bit helps.
:wave2:

I LOST 3.8 LBS!!!!! :cool1: Week one (honey, pay up on the Disney Dollars!!) was good! My leader asked me how /what I did to lose so much, and I told her I got serious and it was all about Disney! :cheer2:
-And the good Dis people, of course! :sunny:

It's good to be a loser! :rotfl2:

Thanks so much!!

How's everyone else doing? This time of year is hard-I'm bringing fresh fruit/veges. to all big events!!!

I did great a few years ago, losing several dress sizes (went from a 12 to a 6) and was pretty happy with the way I looked. Here are some Before and After pics of what I looked liked:

http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/melan...otos.yahoo.com/ph/melaniemiller2002/my_photos

There's also some pics on there of my kiddos from our trip to DL two summers ago (their first time there...ever).

I did a program called Body For Life. It's a great program, was easy to follow, and I enjoyed the workouts. But then nursing school started and with a 5 year old and an 8 year old, plus a hubbie who worked 12 hour night shifts and was in school full time, my clinical days, my lecture days, and my two 12-hour night shifts a week, there just wasn't time for ME. So I've put on all the weight and then some. The picture in my album of me in Minnie's house is how I want to look again. I looked and FELT healthy.

We are planning a trip to WDW in April/May and I've vowed to lose 25lbs (I'm 5'1" and weigh 165) or I'm just not going to go. It's become hard for me to walk all day long through theme parks without my legs and knees hurting me, not too mention I'm just plain uncomfortable. So I will begin another Body For Life 12-week Challenge on Monday and hopefully, will succeed in losing all the weight that good ol' nursing school put on!!!

I started to try to lose weight at the beginning of May and have lost 23 pounds. I have about 70 to go for our trip to WDW at the end of Nov. I have a pretty high metabolism as long as I work out...so it may become a reality. But my realistic goal is to lose 40 by then. I would be happy with that. Good luck everyone! :flower:

WOW MELANIE!!! I am 5'3 and 140 right now was 166...but even at 25 pound loss I do not look like that. I have tummy problems from a c section, very saggy skin...you look fab in those pic girl!! I want to go down at least another 10 to 15...I have heard a lot about that Body for Life program, I might have to try a new workout routine, mine seems to be maintaining my weight but no real loss now for weeks!! :sad2: I think I need to kick up the workouts. Where do I get info about that program? I will do anything to get to 120, within reason...I wanna look sexy for our Dis pics...I don't want to be fat in our family vacation pics. I am ok with myself now but there are a few things I need to work on. I can't believe what 20 pounds did for you, that is amazing. I need to get some before and afters on my yahoo here soon. I only have befores...of my wedding...when I was a 14...now I am about an 8 can wear some 6's. Anyone else have to wear larger shorts than jeans???? For some reason I can wear 6 jeans and capris but shorts I need an 8...I think it is due to my flabby stomach. I carry ALL my weight in the middle. GROSS :sad2: And at weigh in last night I lost only .8 pounds...I will keep going though.

Here is the main website:

http://www.bodyforlife.com/

And although the site is down right now, here is a great website that has pictures of those who have done or are doing the program, in addition to a great supportive bulletin board with lots of advice and tips for newbies:

http://bodyforlife-tracker.com/

Try back in a few days to see if it's up and running. I'm on there as ICU_RN.

And you can find the books here:

And here is the journal that I used for my first challenge. It was VERY helpful with the meal planning and workouts:

http://half.ebay.com/cat/buy/prod.cgi?cpid=1132166135&pr=2400425

He also has a great cookbook out that takes a lot of guesswork out of the equation. My family LOVES the Turkey Meatloaf, the Asian Beef Stir Fry, and the Mom's Chicken Enchiladas. The cheesecake and pumpkin cheesecake are pretty good. Actually, most of the recipes in there are terrific and family friendly.

Here is a blog done by a woman who's been doing Body For Life for years. She's quite funny (if you "get" her sense of humor) and she's got great advice. One day, sit down and peruse through her site.

And finally, here is bulletin board that is also helpful. There are also lots of before and after photos of women who have done the program:

I think one of the reasons I love this program is that you get to eat 6 times a day... :rotfl: And on the 7th day of the week, you get to eat WHATEVER you want. It's called Free Day and it's what keeps me from gorging myself throughout the week. I save that day for a family night out to our favorite restaurant or to have a soda and pizza.... :earboy2:

If you have any other questions, feel free to email me. My email is melaniemiller2002@yahoo.com. I am no stranger to the gym and have been lifting weights and working out since I was about 14. I was on United States Diving most of my teen years and kept in really good shape. However, once I was out of high school, got injured and had to stop diving, I didn't have much motivation. I still went to the gym but wasn't getting the results I wanted. I started the program and couldn't believe how much smaller I got. The clothing size was the biggest change. I lost about 8% bodyfat....that's one of the great things about the program. It's not about the scale so much, but about the actual change in bodyfat and muscle mass. The more muscle you have, the more calories you burn just sitting around. More calories burned, more food you get to eat!!!
