Dieting for Disney

Hi guys,

I too am on a weight modification journey :rotfl2: Anyway, I am doing a modified WW diet - which means I kind of track points in my head and kind of know what I can eat and what I cant. Since February I have lost 44 pounds to date this way. And since January 04 I have lost a total of 84 pounds. Last year I actually went to WW meetings and did the journals. I am not a food journal type of person - I hate having to write this stuff down!

I have also just started the FIRM work-outs and man what a work-out they are!! I have started following the FIRM thread on the W.I.S.H board - it is great and very motivational. In a week and a half on this exercise plan I can already tell a difference in my "new" smaller clothes. My DH is going to kill me if I keep having to buy new clothes - Oh Well!!!

My main motivation in this weight loss is my 20th high school reunion in September!! I just cant have everyone see me FAT!!!! We are also going to WDW in August and it will be nice not to have to worry if I will fit in the seat of the rides or not. This is one thing I have really worried about on prior trips to WDW or Carowinds (theme park in NC/SC). :guilty:

Now I dont have to worry about it! I still would like to lose about 40 more pounds to get to my goal, but if I just get close - thats the main thing (my health). :cloud9:

tnkbell WW will tell you anywhere from 1/2 pound to 2 pounds a week is a healthy, normal loss...only once did I loose 4 pounds one week and consistently lost 1/2 to 1 a week and here I am 25 pounds lighter!! You really need to get active with the diet plan...I do high intense cardio three to four times a week with weight training two to three times a week and 100 sit ups or ab work or pilates daily!! To the Bob Greene poster: I have such tummy problems, without my gross flabby tummy no doubt I would be hitting a 4 but my tummy is nasty and hangs down from a c section, what kinds of abs and workouts did you do to help that area??? I am considering a tummy tuck not for weight reasons but my tummy is grossly unproportioned with my body...I went from a 14 to a 6/8 now but tummy is still bad. I need help in this area. I also have DD chest but am REALLY small framed, no back side at all, small hips and shoulders but my tummy :sad2: anyone else have a c section problem?
I'm sorry I forgot to say that's how much I lost in a month! So far I have been losing 1/2lb to 1lbs per week just eating less and moving more. I would like to lose 30 lbs total but would be happy to get off 10lbs before our trip, and tackle the other 20 by this time next year. I haven't had a c-section, but 4 huge babies have stretched out my tummy. I also have a small frame. I have "Slim in 6" workout with Debbie Seavers and I noticed (when Dh & I were doing it a few months ago) that this was actually helping my tummy and it wasn't as stretched out. I need to get back on that bandwagon though!

I also LOVE pilates!! It's the best for your tummy!! I've always had an issue with my belly-even when I was a skinny teenager-my muscle tone there was basically nonexistant!
But-when I do pilates consistently, I definitely see a difference in my belly-it tightens it up (although I don't think I'll ever have a FLAT stomach). I personally like the Stott's Core Challenge DVD-I got it at Target for under $15.00. Now if I could only do it all the time again... :rotfl:

This is a great thread, very motivating, and congrats to those doing so well losing!!

I agree w/WW points & running. That was the only time I was successful losing - when I did both. If you find a running program that gradually increases your distance, it can be done!! I still hate running but need to take it back up since it really did work on my weight loss. The trick I found to the points is I learned quickly I couldn't waste all my points on junk! If I used points for healthy choices, I didn't get as hungry. I like the mind game effect that technically I *could* eat anytime I wanted, just not smart to use up all the points.

I like the idea of night walks as a family. Good for wearing out the younger ones, good exercise & will get us ready for all that walking. I'd like to lose 30 & firm up a bunch. We're going to Chicago in August, my first goal to lose at least something with Disney coming next! Off to check out the WISH board.

Try WW online! It is such a great resource. I get more out of the message boards then I do going to a meeting.

i totally agree with you about the message boards!! they are awesome. you can ask a question, and get 5 responses within minutes! i don't think i could have started Core so successfully w/out. i had so many questions and the boards were so much more help than my meetings. PLUS you don't have to be an online member to use them! i swear by the boards!!!

Unfortunately I feel your pain. I am very short waisted and that makes a flat, tight tummy difficult when there is extra skin with nowhere to stretch out! I know I can do better if I do the strengthing exercises but at some point I know I would either need surgery or just accept that excess belly jelly is here to stay! :rotfl:

As a note to my previous post about calories- I "aim" for 1500 but usually miss the mark by several hundred. When I was hardcore last year I stayed close to that number but I found the more I concentrated on the exercise the better I did. Metabolism responds much better to exercise than to restriction in diet. I found that for years I thought my exercise regimen was good enough but it wasn't enough to boost my metabolism out of the huge FUNK it was in! :rotfl2:

Great thread!!!!

Here is what I do to keep the weight off:

1. Cut your current meal amounts down by half.

2. Do not eat (you will lose weight if you don't eat these, guaranteed):
a. Pasta (I know how hard it is to give this up because I'm Italian)
b. Rice (stick with a meat, poultry, or fish w/ Veggies)
c. Bread (I know, I know, but use the pita wrap bread or two slices of rye per day)
d. Potatoes (this is an easy one to give up so you should have no problems here and not even baked)

3. Walk a few miles per day (it strengthens your legs and it gets your heart pumping).

I hate the word "diet". Eating healhier and excercising regularly is the wise thing to do if you want to keep the weight off. Incorparate this into your everyday life. I also do weight lifting, kick boxing and I run. The only thing I would pay for in regard to losing weight is a GYM!

:Pinkbounc Mark: congrats on the new baby!! We would love to welcome a 4th so we'll see whats in store for us...another boy might even things out for you too, huh?? We need a boy with all these pampered princesses including MYSELF my dh is up to his eyeballs in pink and all things pretty!! He doesn't mind... princess: Anyway I believe you are right about cutting the pastas and carbs but the problem with that is most people try and fail because they just won't do it and then get guilty feelings about their lack of will or success...that is why core on WW LIMITS pastas (only whole wheat once a day) no breads unless you use your extra points, plain potatoes once a day or Brown rice ONCE a day...the reason I can live with that is because there is nothing OFF limits, you just eat it sparingly and eat until you are satified NOT FULL...we need to learn out comfort zone for eating...I hardly ever eat all my food and can't remember the last time I felt "stuffed" from eating. I still have the occasional ice cream or donut but it is rare and I have a SMALL portion...did you all know the serving size of ice cream is 1/2 cup???? YES...and pasta is 1 cup??? Think about the last time you went to Olive Garden...I am betting that is a good 5 to 6 cup plate of spaghetti in front of you. Plus the bread and salad and don't forget the margaritas or daquiris!!! I have CUT OUT alcohol COMPLETELY...never again. Maybe a diet and bacardi if I HAD TO. It is just not worth it to me but to some it is and that is why I love WW. I just put on my first bikini since HIGH SCHOOL yesterday. I need to do a bit more ab work and side crunches but overall I feel great about my progress...by the time I am swimmin' in the pool at the CR...WELL I am determined to be bikini ready for that trip!! Actually I am going to Myrtle Beach next month and would love to do another 8 pounds by then. Beaches, bikinis, tanks and belts were all items that frightened me (you ladies know what I mean right???) I can not believe I can go into a store now and buy a 6!!! That is an amazing feeling and NO not even the Mickey Bars can top that...(well ok I might have just one while I am there :goodvibes ) :mickeybar

LOL! I will be trying a few Mickey Bars while I'm out at WDW, the turkey leg and every other snack they have available!

I found that after cutting out the carbs that I don't crave them anymore. The same goes for soda, ice cream, chocolate...I drink red wine instead. Maybe it's just me. :confused3 Also, staying FOCUSED is the key and if you want to lose weight and keep it off that has to be number one priority. Charting your weight loss also helps to keep you focused.

Thanks for the congrats!

to all the WW folks: I am sure the mickey bars are made of skim milk and fat free chocolate and the turkey legs are core :rotfl2:
well they will be THAT week anyway!!!! :rotfl:

whatever: I could always fast the week before WDW...or have my mouth stapled shut :rotfl:

definitely true about the cravings Mark, this is right on...I rarely eat rice or potatoes any more but I still do the light whole wheat breads and MAYBE a wheat pasta once a week. They now have WW pasta at Fazolis and Olive Garden for all you WW fans

I used WW as a springboard for cutting back when I first started getting serious a couple of years ago. I definitely try to lean towards veggies and lean meat but I must admit I get an embarassing :ssst: craving for spongebob macaroni and cheese and fruity pebbles!

Now that right there was a true confessional! Lost all my weight eatin' fruity pebbles!!!! :rotfl2: You'll never read that in a self-help book!!!

We had this great debate among friends: carbs vs. protein, etc. For me I cannot have any no-no's :sad2: . Moderation works better for me and if I blow it then I work my tail off! :jumping3:

I have been working on my weight since January (I gained a lot with my second pregnancy!) and told my husband I wanted a Disney trip if I reached a certain weight, well I am close to that weight and will keep going until my trip in August, it has been a great motivator!!! ::MinnieMo

I am losing weight for our October trip as well... the motivation is looking back on the photos from our last trip. Since January I have lost 30 lbs and now have 5ilbs to go. :cool1: I am sort of following the ww programme but mainly just eating healthly, I was actually ill the other day after I had chips for the first time in 5 months. Going running 2 or 3 times a week has also boosted my weight loss, its hard going, but you do feel youve exercised afterwards. The BEST thing about losing weight apart from new clothes is the positive comments people give you, my confidence has gone from 0 to 100. To everyone trying to lose weight- keep it up :grouphug: We can ALL do it.

I am trying to lose weight before our trip late this fall. I just recently had a baby girl. I had a high-risk pregnancy adn was put on bed rest. I gained about 70 pounds. I was already about 20 pounds overweight before I even got pregnant. So, I started Weight Watchers and going to the gym about a month ago and I've lost 13 pounds. Hope to lose 40-50 pounds more before we leave on Nov 29.
We went to Disneyland when I was 9 weeks pregnant and I was already overweight and my feet and ankles were killing me. It totally ruined my trip. I don't want my weight to ruin this trip for me. Foot and ankle pain is the WORST! :earboy2:
Good luck to everyone trying to get in shape!! :flower:

Hey, noticed your counter...I think our babies were born on the same day! My ds was born 11/10. Also, we are going to be at WDW 11/27-12/3...looks like you'll be there around that time, as well? PM me!:wizard:

I want to feel un-selfconscious in my swimsuit when we go to WDW in September. To do that I need to loose about 10 lbs that I've had since our 3rd baby was born a little over 2 years ago (I've kept all my pre-baby size 8's even though I've been in a 10 since then).

I was so glad to find this thread just now - I was sitting here arguing with myself over whether I should have a bowl of ice cream or not lol!

My mom and sister are doing WW, and while I don't really want to pay to go to meetings and sit there and talk about everyone's weight, I've learned a bit from them about the portions and points, and have basically been trying to cut out excess snacks and sweets. I've substituted non-fat popcorn or sugar snap peas for the little goodies I used to eat in the afternoon or evening. I'm already fitting back into my pre-pregnancy shorts & pants, but they're still a bit tight so I've got a ways to go yet.

I find that it's very difficult to find time to exercise with a baby/toddler in the house! We just bought a stationary bike, and we're working on teaching her to stay back when we're riding it. I've also been trying to take lots more walks and push her in her stroller.

Okay, so you all helped me get past my ice cream craving - thank you! I've got to go find that wish board that was mentioned, so I can go there when I'm wanting something I shouldn't!

Yep, add me to the list! :yo-yo: We are also going in October, and, at 202 I would love to lose about 37 lbs. I am tall and have a large build so 165 on me would be pretty thin. In 2000 I lost 85 lbs(from 235 to 150) and I felt so good! I just cut my meals in half, prayed for the courage to get through each day and drank lots of water! I think the big thing was cutting my portions in half and not stuffing myself. It makes your stomach shrink.

Good luck to everyone!!
