Dieting for Disney

Well, I went back to the gym tonight after work and concentrated on my back. Something tells me that I am going to be hurting tomorrow but it is a good kind of hurt for me. I had just about finished my workout when I started doing some low back extensions. I realized real quick that I can't do those anymore because it locks my knee in a way that I just can't handle. Now, at my other gym, we had several different machines to be able to attack every bodypart. This one doesn't have all of that room so it was beginning to look like a struggle for me. Being a person that had always had low back pains, I wanted to keep it strong so I asked the trainer there if there was something else I could do. He informed me of "Supermans". That's where you layout flat on the floor, on your stomach with your arms out like you are flying. Then, slowly you lift up your arms and feet off the floor so you look like a bow. Hold it. Release and then do it again. I tried it and I could feel it working.

I just wanted to drop a quick line. How are you all doing on reaching your goals. Twotoohappy, are you ready for the marathon? I know you will make it but being a competitor, I want you to smoke 'em.

Have a great day!!
Bryan

Happy Thanksgiving!!!!!!!!!!!!! Any other Candians out there???? I'm full of lots of turkey and family cheer. Time to get running tomorrow!

Just wanted to drop in and say hello. Hope you're all continuing to do well!!

My orginal post is buried in the middle of this thread....somewhere.:rotfl: So, I'll introduce myself again, and this time save to my favs. Ok, I'm Brenda. A 47 yr old SAHM to 14 yr old boy/girl twins. We also have three adult children, and 4 grandchildren. In 437 days we will be leaving for our Holiday land/sea vacation. Last time we went, I was a trim and fit 139 lbs. The parks still kicked my backside. I ballooned to an all time high of 248 lbs before I got tired of the way I looked, and felt. I can only imagine how hard it would be to walk the parks at my current weight. I have lost 20 lbs so far. I'm feeling better, and more able to remain focused on the goal. To be a healthy fit person by the time we leave.

Hi Brenda:wave:
You've got a good amount of time before your trip
so you should have no problem getting fit.

Happy Thanksgiving CJK! How's the running?

Great goals Bubba! Thanks for the encouragement:goodvibes
My goal for the 1/2 marathon is to finish. I was freaking
myself out with times, so I'm going to work on just the distance and
then work on time. I'm just excited to do it (but it would be nice
to be towards the middle/front of the pack lol)
Let me tell you... running on the road is sooooo much harder
than on a treadmill. Grrrrr.....
oh yeah, love doing supermans!Great for the abs. Try "navy seals"
too. Navy Seals are crunches opposite elbow to opposite knee -
fast for a min. then increase time. I also strengthen my core
by lying on my back with my feet a few inches from the floor and
abs tightened... after a min. or so you'll feel the burn!

How's everyone else doing? We're a sporadic bunch, but
we're a supportive bunch!:grouphug:

Keep up the good work everyone!:hippie:

Brenda Welcome back! As it has already been said, you have plenty of time to reach your goals. It can be a long, hard road but one that is very rewarding. I can promise you that we will be here with you all the way helping, supporting and encouraging you all the way. There is a wealth of knowledge here in this group so if you have any questions, feel free to ask. We are here to help.

TwotoohappyI am soo excited for your upcoming marathon. It sounds like you have the right mix of motivation and determination to make it a success. I am going to send you lots of pixiedust: pixiedust: in support for I am confident that you will be closer to the front of that pack than the back. The Navy Seals exercise sounds like a good one and actually one that I have done but I can't do it right now. I have been having some severe issues with my knee again so I am going to call my doctor to see what's going on with it. I am also going to go back to my chiropractor to see if he can help minimize some of the pain. I sure hope that he can!!

On a personal note, I did get to the gym tonight and did a chest workout. Since I am back in the game of trying to build up my strength again, I am only working out one bodypart per day so I can put more focus and emphasis on each. It is going to take a combination of lots of training, a proper diet and not loosing focus again. I feel like I am 85% there. My only weakness right now is that I am not getting enough food and I am letting work get in the way of some of my training. I am working on getting that fixed very soon!!

Hope you are all doing fantastic. Brenda, let us know if we can help in any form or fashion. Good luck and God Bless!!:woohoo: :yay: :grouphug:

Twohappy and Bubba for the warm welcome. I'm sure I lost this week, but wouldn't recommend how I managed it. I went to the dr, Monday for a sinus infection, and got antibiotics. Tuesday night I spiked a 102.8 temp. Ok, I have a lower body temp than average. 98.6 is a fever for me. Then came the uncontrolable cough, the chills, and body aches. Had to call the dr back and get something for the cough and an inhaler for the tightness in my chest. Thankfully, I am feeling better now. The fever still comes and goes, but all in all I think I'm on the mend. Hopefully whatever weight I lost will stay off

So Twohappy, you are training for a marathon. Wow, that's fantastic. I'm sure you will to great. Bubba, thank you so much for the offer of help. Right now I just need encouragment and accountabity. Now, it's back to bed with me. Nitey nite

brendalee - I hope you're feeling better now. Sounds like you've had quite the week to say the least. Maybe if you see a drop in the scale, it will help motivate you to continue your healthy lifestyle when you're feeling better. Best wishes, and please keep posting!

Twotoohappy - You go girl!!! I admire you tremendously for running the 1/2 marathon. I've had inklings of doing it myself, but hubby would never go for it (at least while on vacation). I'd have to do one around here. How are you training for it? What's your routine like? Please do keep us posted on your training and just know you've got some cheerleaders here routin' for you! :cheer2: :cheer2: Who knows - you may inspire me! ;)

Bubba - Your workouts sound great! Does it feel good taking such good care of your body? Be sure to eat enough (as you mentioned). What times of day are most difficult for you? I have no doubt you'll get that back on track, like you've gotten everything else on track. Keep up the great work!

Things are good on my end. I saw lots of family for Thanksgiving. It's funny. I've been on this healthy lifestyle since June of 06 so roughly 16 months. I stopped losing weight around Christmas and have more or less maintained since January. Basically my weight hasn't changed much, add or minus a pound or two, in close to 10 months. People who only see me every couple months or so are still shocked by my weightloss. My grandmother told me to stop losing weight and my aunt said, "I still look good".

In my 20's, I was a classic yo-yo dieter so I think people expected this time to be the same. I've been maintaining for close to a year so I KNOW this time is different. I wonder how long it will be for people to not make comments about my weight (positve or negative)? I can't blame my family for making comments since I have a history of yo-yo'ing, but I admit to being tired of it......... Any insights, thoughts?

Have a great weekend everyone!!!!

Hey CJK! Sometimes people mean to say the right thing and want to be supportive, but it comes out wrong. (like your Aunt's "still looking good" comment) I'd just smile and talk about something else if it bothers you.
Be proud of maintaining! I'm glad you had a good holiday :)

Bubba - keep up whatever you can do for workouts and remember to eat!
you can't heal or be healthy without enough good food!

Brenda - Hope you're feeling better! Get well before trying to work out again so your body has time to heal.

as for me... just got some new asics that flex a bit more for the road. I love my other asics, but they're built more for the treadmill. I also picked up some new outdoor running clothes because it's getting chilly around here!! Oh yeah, I also picked up an interval watch. It's much easier to keep track of my walk/jog times with an alarm that goes off between sets. I try to keep it set to walk 1min. then jog 5min. repeat, repeat, repeat.
Tomorrow's my loooooong haul. I'm going to do 8miles. I've only been doing 3, but mainly because of time. Even if I have to walk more, I'm going to complete it!!!!! I have to start some longer runs to get ready for the 1/2 in 3 months from today :) Oh yeah, just got some new goo gel to supplement on the run. The new flavor is chocolate mint mmmmm.....

ttyl and have a great weekend everyone!

Hey all, just checking in.
I'm breaking in new sneaks, so no 8mi. this weekend.
I did do 4 miles on Saturday and 4 today and...
today's was 5 minutes faster! Yeauh!
tomorrow's a rest day, then 4 Tues, Wed and 5 Thurs and Sat.
What's everyone else doing this week?
When's your next Disney trip? I would be cool to eventually
meet you all :)

:yay: Wow! What a great workout I had tonight at the gym. I was able to do shoulders and triceps again for the first time in a loooong time. I really felt like I was able to get something accomplished while I was there. Plus, when I left I had a pretty good pump. It is funny but I feel like one of the "bigger" guys at this gym while at the other gym, I was one of the smaller. Now, I still haven't gained all of my strength back yet but that will take time. I am still a little scared to work on my legs but I will get there. I am starting to wear my knee brace again and ice it periodically to help with lubrication of the joints. I was going to do some cardio tonight but I needed to get home to help with the kids. I know that may sound like an excuse but I am in a "muscle-building" phase bot necessarily a "cut-up" phase. I just really want to get my bench back up to 225 and 250 again. Maybe one day, I will even get back up to 315. That would be cool considering everything I have been through physically this past year.

Brenda I hope you are feeling better. It really stinks when we get sick and there are so many things that we are trying to achieve. Sometimes there is just no way to avoid those germs, no matter how hard you try. I would like to ask if you are on any kind of multi-vitamin or supplementation to make sure that you are getting all the antioxidants that your body needs to combat such germs? If you are, I applaud you. If you are not, I would strongly suggest that you find a good multi to start taking and make it part of your daily routine. For me, it is second hand now, like brushing my teeth. I would also like to congratulate you on your success so far. You are on your way to reaching your personal goals. Possibly faster than you had originally expected!? I know it is tough to get out and do really anything while you are sick but that is to be expected. But I also know with your determination to achieve this goal, you will be "back in the saddle again" very soon. I will be here :cheer2: you on!!

Twotoohappy How is your training going? For that matter, when is the marathon that you want to participate? What kind of shoes did you get for your training? I know I bought myself some New Balance shoes that is supposed to be some of the best shoes out there right now for anyone that has any kind of orthopedic issues. I really am hoping that you do very well in the marathon!! To sound selfish just for a moment, what a "shot in the arm" it would be to have a member of our forum and home, a beacon of a healthy lifestyle, do well in the marathon! I know you will do GREAT!!:grouphug: :cheer2: :woohoo: :yay: :woohoo:

OK! That's it for tonight! How are you all doing? Where are our members that have been in hiding for sometime now? We have so many family members that are not able to come back to visit with us anymore. Like Brenda, you are all welcomed to come back anytime. I hope all is well.... No! I know all is well. I hope all is FANTASTIC!!!:cool1: :thumbsup2

Hey All!

Nice job on the weight lifting Bubba! You'll get back up to the "big boy" weights soon! Don't go too fast or you might end up hurting yourself and then you'll have a real setback!

My race is the Disney 5k on 1/11 and the 1/2 on 1/12! I'm soooo excited!
The interval training is going well! I've got new Asics that are really flexible
so I can move more fluidly. I'm still a bit slow, but I'm going for distance and that's
all that matters! I can't wait to put on my dis green and make you all proud!
When it comes closer, anybody who wants my number to call and give me
support during the race is welcome to call! You're all family :)

Hey..... Where's everyone else?
When's everybody's trip coming up? I'm going in Nov, Jan, April, Aug.
I know, I'm spoiled, but I'd love to meet up with everyone someday!!

Have a great night everyone!

Twotoohappy It sounds like you have a great plan and regime going for you. I must say that I am very jealous of all the trips that you have planned and upcoming. I was hoping to be able to take a long weekend at the beginning of November but it isn't looking like I will be able to get the time off. I have a lot of time to spare but it seems like nothing gets done when I am not at work. It has ben very stressful recently. Although I wasn't planning on going to WDW then, I was going to be in Florida. I wanted to go to The World Space Expo at Kennedy. This could be one of my last chances to ever be able to meet John Glenn. For a space nut like me, that would be HUGE. I am trying not to get discouraged about it. Back to you. I would be more than happy to try to give you a call and a boost while you are doing the marathon.

I went back to the gym tonight after taking last night off. I focused on my back and I promise you, it will be hurting tomorrow. But I didn't totally neglect my cardiovascular. I did 25 minutes worth of walking on the treadmill. I did it at a slow, deliberate pace for a couple of reasons. I wanted to make sure I didn't overdo it since I really haven't done any since I got back from my trip. Also, I am still worried about my knee as it has been hurting a lot at work. I had my knee brace on and that seemed to help but I didn't turn it loose. Maybe over time.

I hope you are all doing well. I hate to do this but I am going to ask for a "roll call". It is time for everyone to check in and let us know how you are doing. Part of this site is to help with accountability. We can't hold you to it if you don't post it. Let us know!

Have a great night!

Twotoohappy and Bubba: Way to go on that exercise! I haven't had much time to post these last couple days, but please know that I've been reading and have been very proud of my DIS friends! :goodvibes Bubba, it sounds like you're really listening to your body and working what you can, and taking it easy where necessary. You're such an inspiration. Twotoohappy - AMAZING! Your training is going great. I wish like mad that I could be there for your half marathon! I'll be in Tampa in early February, but definitely not January. :( Why does work have to get in the way? I'll be with you in spirit and will be so anxious to hear all about it upon your return. In the meantime, please keep us updated on the training. You actually helped me this week...

I had a bit of a "food crisis" on Monday and Tuesday of this week. It was strange. I just got sick and tired of being good and just ate whatever the heck I wanted. THANKFULLY it lasted for only 2 days and the last 2 days I've been back on track. I wanted to say thank you to Bubba and Twotoohappy. Your continued posts where you talked about your successes/struggles/lives really helped me out of my funk. I thought that I didn't want to let you guys down ya know?

The weather has been nice this week so I've been running outside again. I enjoy that soooo much more than the treadmill. I know that once the snow comes I'll have no choice but to use the treadmill, so I'd better enjoy the great outdoors while I can.

As for my next trip, it's coming up in just under 2 months. We're going with my parents who have never experienced Christmas at Disney. I'm pumped! My goal is to fit into some clothes that have been too tight ever since our Cozumel all-inclusive trip last January...:rolleyes1 I'm not sure how much I need to lose pound wise, but 10lbs would likely do it. I haven't really tried to lose weight since late last year, but it's time to buckle down.

Thanks for holding me accountable. What an inspiring bunch!

Thanks for the kind words CJK! We all get into funks,but...
what makes us strong is starting up again after we have a setback!
Coming back from a setback/break is so hard for me because you
have to start the routine up again and it's just so much easier to
say hey...I'll start tomorrow.
So, we're all proud of you getting the "badness" out of you in two
days and commiting to working hard for your upcoming Disney trip!!!
You go girl!
Today's a day off, but tomorrow starts 5 mile week! Yeauh!

How's everyone doing?????

Just a quick post. I was able to get to the gym both yesterday and today. Last night, I had to work security for the local high school football game and I got in late. That's why I didn't post then. We won! Then, today I have been watching college football most of the day. I was a little upset when my team lost against one of their big rivals so I went to the gym and "blitzed" my arms. By the time I left, I couldn't curl a 20 lb. dumbbell anymore.

Tomorrow is the beginning of a brand new week and I am excited about the possibilities and OUR potential. I know we can do great. Twotoohappy, I know you are going to be able to do 5 miles easily. CJK, I know you are going to be able to stay consistant as you are getting ready for your upcoming trip. Now, let's get out there and do it.:cheer2: :yay: :woohoo: :grouphug:

Just a quick check in...
Did very, very bad today :(
cupcake, brownie, etc.
I ate because I was bummed out that I
had to cancel my trip to go visit friends
this weekend. Eating because of emotions is BAD!
Ah, well... we all have our days and I just
have to do better tomorrow!
Happy thoughts and Disney soon
should turn things around!
How's everyone else doing?

Twotoohappy - I could write a book on eating your emotions!! You helped me get through my eating last week, so we're here for you this week! How's today going? I hope you can reschedule that trip for another time. How's the training going?

Bubba: Great job with the continued workouts! You're back in routine!

I'm doing extremely well this week foodwise and exercisewise! I'm still not fitting comfortably into my shorts/t-shirts from last year, but they are "wearable". I had forgotten how good it can feel to get back into clothes. If I can maintain this momentum, I should reach my goal well before our trip.

Of course.......my birthday is on Sunday and we have a lot of special events planned this weekend. I plan on treating myself a little bit, but I hope to emphasize the "little bit" part!!!! Wish me luck!!

How's everyone else's week going?

Twotoohappy and CJK It is great to hear from the both of you. It sounds like you are doing wonderful. You may be battling a little but you have figured out how to let it pass. I can promise you I have been having the same issues about "Eating due to your emotions" recently. My emotions have been all over the place. So much junk going on physically, finacially, emotionally and even spiritually. It has been really tough ever since I came back home from WDW and it is just taking a while to get out of that "funk". Ahhh, we all go through it at some point. I guess right now is my turn.

CJK :cheer2: Happy Birthday!!!:bday: party: I had to get that in there just real quick. I know it will be a great day for you and I hope you realize that your family here wishes that we could be there to help you celebrate. May it be the healthiest and happiest year of your life.

Like I mentioned up above, times have been tough but I have a couple of "constants" that get me through each day. My exercises and you all. I am still getting to the gym as regularly as I can. Actually, I worked out my chest last night and was able to lift more than I have this year. I also had a couple of the guys at the gym commenting on my physique which was weird but it felt good. I am planning on trying to go back tonight and definately tomorrow.

Hope everyone has a FANTASTIC weekend!!:yay: :cheer2: :grouphug:

Hey everyone! This has been a very trying week but things are getting back to normal so I think I will be able to get back to the gym as early as today. As we all know, we all go through certain setbacks due to life. That's fine because most of those are things that are out of our control. But what is in our control is how we handle those setbacks and how quickly we try get back into the game. I almost hate to do this but I am going to use a quote from HSM. "You got to get your head in the game!" Well, my head and body has been out of the game for a little while now but it is time to get back on track. Let's get out there and finish this year off with a BANG!!:cheer2:

It felt GREAT to be able to get back to the gym today. I wasn't able to stay long or do much but it sure did a lot for me. I was able to do a lot of focus on my arms and got a real good pump. Just what the doctor ordered.

But while I was there, I did get some bad news. I got on the scale and wasn't pleased about what I saw. I am hoping that most of it was water weight but I am hopeful that I am putting some muscle back on my frame. Anyway, I know I have been relaxed with my eating habits while trying to put the size back on my frame but I have a limit that I didn't want to reach and I am really close. With that said, I am going to get back on the cardio to try to shed some of the fat off of my body. I want to get back to where I was last year when I went on vacation. I personally believe that was when I looked my best so I am aiming for that again. It's going to be hard so I know I will need all of your help.

Thanks for everything!!
Bryan
