Dieting for Disney

Happy Friday all!!

Momrek...so glad to hear from you again. WAY TO GO on getting your DH to walk with you!! That is GREAT news and will inspire Bubba with his DW. You are a great inspiration to your DH as well as all of us....AWESOME!!!

Well I can report that I have finally gone to the gym for 4 days in a row and I feel completely rejuvenated and inspired! I've lost the 4lbs overall I gained on our vacation and am starting from a FANTASTIC place. Since I've lost nearly 40lbs so far, I feel like I really can do this now. Before I had to lose as much as I did just to feel somewhat "normal". I felt totally obese and felt like I had a LONG and VERY HARD road ahead. Now I feel comfortable in my body and the road is getting shorter. Don't get me wrong, I still have a lot of weight to lose...another 40lbs...but I know I can get it done.

I hope everyone is staying focused and inspired and looking forward to a great weekend.

Bubba..if you're back, let us know how you're doing and how your trip went. Cannot wait to hear from you, you are missed.

Have a great weekend everyone!!!!
TLQ

Just watch, pretty soon the walking will have been his idea.
thanks for the welcome! I have some good news and some frustration! First, the frustration -how come I started exercising and gained 2 lbs? I hope that it's probably just some flooky body readjustment but still it's annoying! I think that I'll write down everything I eat and drink for the next wk and see where I've gone wrong.
Now for the good news...I have an excuse to go to WDW earlier than expected. There's a conference at the end of July that I get to attend! And I may take a few extra days since it's such a great rate for the CR (never been there before-but a deluxe at a value rate is not to be missed).
Must get those 2 lbs off (and then some!) Any ideas??

Hey Lionqueen: Yippee Skippee on those FOUR lbs!!! Way to go!!! :thumbsup2 Keep up the fantastic work. I bet you are feeling so awesome about that. YUP, the road is getting shorter the mountain is easier to climb... :cheer2: !! I am there CHEERING for you....keep it up!!! And it is so empowering isn't it!!!

I am so proud of DH with all the walking and all the really good eating!!! Tonight..AHHHH..he took the DS' to the Red Sox game and I told him how fabulously he was all week to try to please not overdo at the game!!! Hopefully, he will remember the little talk before ordering anything at the consession stand.

Hey Alisaheather: Ahh, our FEARLESS LEADER is away in the "World" himself but if you wait abit I am sure he will come on and give you the exact data you need or want on those 2lbs.
I am sooo jealous of your pending July trip...man that right there would get me on the road to losing so fast...as I have said before...I watch what I eat 24/7 and work out 24/7 (other than some few/and far between random times when I was not focused and I came on here to get my focus back) BUT that being said...when I go to WDW I do NOT diet....I repeat I do NOT diet. That is my vacation and I work so hard so much to be able to go there and eat in the likes of Le Cellier and California Grille...so ALISA..keep up with your diet as July will be here in NO time!!!

HAVE A GOOD WEEKEND!!! BUBBA: If you are home :welcome: BACK!!!!

:woohoo: :Pinkbounc   :cheer2:  :bounce:

Momrek...thanks so much for the encouragement!! We lead such similar lives it's really crazy. DH and my dad went to the Rockies game last night and I told him the exact same thing...didn't work though, don't know how yours came out :lmao:

Aliasheather..the BEST advice I can give you is to stay OFF the scale!! It was such a downer for me for about 3 months and discouraged me in ways I cannot even explain! Your BMI (body mass index) is the only TRUE measure of what fat you've lost including weight. For example, I had only lost like 7lbs on the scale but had my BMI done and had lost 13lbs of fat...fat that had turned into muscle. If you're not doing your BMI I would stay off the scale, it is not the true measure of your weight/fat loss. Keep up the GREAT work, it will come off!!

Have a great weekend all! I am on my way to my brother's annual pig roast all day (don't like roasted pig so I should be ok :lmao: ) Hope you all have a great Saturday and weekend!!

Well, as of this morning I'm down 8 pounds! I haven't even really been trying other than watching my portions and trying to be conscious of what I'm eating. I've cut back on the sodas but mainly portion control. I've got to work on drinking more water but I think the heat is helping a lot too. I never want to eat when it's hot out and it's been nasty here in VA.

Congratulations to all the other's losing weight too!

Well I just got back from an unexpected trip to see my mother. She had quite a few doctors appts so I went down to her home and stayed with her to take her back and forth. We found out that she does not have cancer :cheer2: so they should be rescheduling her knee surgerys. I just returned home and got a call from my sister that my mom fell, she is ok but a little scared to be by herself while my dad is away. So my sister is going to bring her up here on here way to vacation so she can stay with me.
Although I love seeing my mom, I did alot of stress eating this week. The scale says I gained 2 lbs but I am just glad it stopped at that! Tomorrow I will start fresh, I got out my tae bo tape and am going to start that tomorrow too.

So glad to see so many new friends have joined us, this is such a great supportive group not just with weightloss but with lifes little ups and downs as well. :goodvibes

I have to tell you all about what I saw on TV this morning has anyone seen this guy joel osteen speek? I am not a very talkative religious person (I tend to keep it to myself) but this guy had such a great message about just trying to see the positive in everything, like the glass is half full not half empty kind of thing. I think I will get his book and give it a read. Well I hope you all have a great week and good luck. :wave2:

KIDSMON...YIPPEE SKIPPEE on the good news that Mom has NO cancer!!!! You all must be thrilled to pieces!!!! Yes, I also tend to indulge when I am stressing BUT so what on the 2lbs as there is NO cancer..all your prayers where answered!!! Hoping mom is okay from the fall but she will now be in your good hands!!!
LIONQUEEN...wellllllll... the Red Sox won...but DH LOST...he had a hot dog and several other typical ballgame treats BUT Sat he was back to being good. He is going to Greece in Aug to met up with my son and he is so focused to be in shape for that 3 week trek.
o2bacelt...YIKES, 8 lbs that is AWESOME!!! Yeah, for you and keep up the good work!!! WOW, that is so empowering...huh...you have a good plan going...forget that SODA whether or not it is DIET...and YUP go with as much water as you can tolerate. I keep a NALOGENE full 24/7 and just drink, drink, drink!!!

My son is leaving in the morning for Greece. We are scrambling like crazy to remember every thing possible. He is so excited. And DH & I are stressing. But DS has a good head on his shoulders so we will try not to worry too much. If you hear any crying tomorrow morning..it is probably DH & ME!!!!

Have a good rest of the weekend....here in the Northeast the rain will not STOP!!!!

:Pinkbounc   :cheer2: :bounce: :yay: :dance3:

kidsmom.....YAHOOOOOOO!!!! That could not be better news, I am SO happy for you and your family!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: It seems as if I am a stress eater too but as long as you "get back on the wagon" don't worry about it.

Momrek...WOW, Greece?? Lucky kid!! That's fantastic, I am jealous! Have never been to Greece, or anywhere out of the US. Would like to go to Rome as I've heard we have family over there, but I don't see us going anytime soon. Here's some pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: for his trip.

o2bacelt..Congrats your weight loss...that is REALLY GREAT!!!! Keep up the great work. What program/exercise are you doing? Curious as to what is working so well. Too cool!!

I didn't work out on Sat or Sun and went to Bro's pig roast on Sat. Didn't eat too much, just not what I would have chosen. On the BRIGHT side, I brought a FABULOUS freshly made fruit salad which was a life saver!! My kids mostly ate fruit instead of all the other sweets, so hopefully my lifestyle change will have a positive affect on them too. HOWEVER, I did slip a little and ate like almost 1/4 of a bag of the new Jalapeno Cheetos. I just wanted to try one, and then..poof. Didn't even know it happened. That goes to show me, NO chips, not even one. Oh well, I'm on my way to the gym bright and early and will work it off. Hope you all had a great weekend, check in w/ya tomorrow!

Hey Everyone! I have missed all of you so much. :grouphug: :grouphug: I haven't read all of the posts that you have made while I was on my vacation but what I have read has been very inspirational. All of your well wishes for myself and my family while we were gone I promise you were felt while we were at WDW. I am in the process of trying to get some of the nearly 400 pictures I took uploaded on photobucket but I am running into a little trouble with it right now. As soon as I get some of those loaded up, I will start showing you all some, including a couple that show the lighter side of me. I promise there is one that will probably have you all rolling with laughter :rotfl: .

Otherwise, I can tell you all that we had a WONDERFUL trip. I am going to do a trip report but I can almost assure you that will not be as well-worded or have the quality of pics like our very own lionqueen's trip report. (By the way, did you ever finish it? I think you were on day 6 when I left.) We did a ton of things that we have never done before and loved every second of it. Even with the fact that my DD is deathly afraid of most of the rides, we still managed to get in EE and all of the other thrill rides. We just had to take turns riding. We were able to get her on BTMRR though. She said it wasn't as bad as she thought it would be but she didn't want to ride it again.

And of course, while we were there, I didn't really stay with any diet format. We ate a lot of pasta and desserts. I did eat a lot of chicken on the trip but most of it was fried. Just seems like most of the places we had chosen to eat at were not too concerned with those who were trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle. But on the other hand, I didn't eat as much there as I do at home. I probably ate 2 times a day. I just had my focus on the parks, characters, and rides.

Check this out! I was waiting on DW to get off of RNR so I could get on. I was sitting over to the side near the drink stand and the restrooms are located. Well, I was looking all over to see when she was going to come out and talking with my DD when I looked up in front of me and saw a couple that I have known ever since I was a baby. They go to Church with me and I went to school with their kids. This was the first time I had ran into someone at the World that I knew that wasn't with me. That was just awesome enough to make it where I had to call my Mom and tell her about it.

OK. There is a little update. Again, thank you all for your warm thoughts during my absence. I will go back and read all of the posts as soon as possible. I did notice we hav a new member. Welcome to our group, Alisha! I am the one that the others have "warned" you about. I am sure that all of us together will be able to help you reach your goals. The first thing I am going to suggest is do whatever you have to do not to get discouraged! We all want some results, if not all of them, right away but reality is that isn't going to happen. The first week or two your scales may actually go in the opposite way as to what you are trying to obtain but then out of nowhere, you will have a loss and usually it will be more than you expect. One week, you will gain 2 or 3 pounds even when you think you are being so good. Then, 2 weeks later you may loose 6 or 7 pounds in a week. Strange things happen when you are dieting. Anyway, I will try to read up on your situation and see if there is anything I can do to help you along the way. I look forward to talking to all of you real soon.

Have a great night! Here is the beginning to a NEW week with NEW possibilities. This week is whatever you want to make of it! Let's stay motivated, dedicated and inspired! IF YOU BELIEVE IT, YOU CAN ACHIEVE IT!!

Love all of you!
Bryan

YIPPPPPEEEEEEE SKIPPPPPPPEEEEE!!!! BUBBA IS BACK!!!!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: !!! We have missed you so much and will be waiting for that trippie!!!! SMALL WORLD...heh, Bubba, running into friends like that at the WORLD!!

Ahhh...and in TRUE FORM, I knew Bubba would be able to help Alisha with that question she had about those 2lbs. Our FEARLESS LEADER has RETURNED!!!! :dance3: :dance3:

Okay, I was just ducking :duck: in to say :welcome: BACK!!!!

Hey Bubba....WELCOME BACK!!!...you've been missed! We've been getting through ok without you, but your inspiration has been much needed.

I am SO glad you had such a wonderful trip, your tone truly just beams MAGIC and happiness! Cannot wait for your trip report (mine hit a bump, but will get back to it one day)

I am heading to the gym today to begin my 2nd week of working out. I was up to a record 5 months when all heck broke loose, but that was then.

I hope you all have a great week!

:welcome: back Bubba! Sounds like your trip was a lot of fun! I know we can't wait to get there in October.

Lionqueen, really all I'm doing is making sure I don't drink a lot of soda (I still have a little, I hate coffee and soda is my caffeine vice) and I've been watching my portion sizes. I've also substituted low fat for full fat options like cheese and I don't use a lot of mayo so the fat free stuff doesn't bother me at all in things like tuna salad. We've also gone to whole grain options in our house as well including pasta.

I just had a physical and my blood pressure is borderline and my cholesterol is a little high, mostly the problem is my LDl so I have to lower both. We're hoping that losing weight can help both issues, although, high blood pressure runs in my family so it may or may not work. I need to get both under control though, I'm going to turn 37 next month and I have a 2 year old DD who I'd like to be around for, but we've also talked about a second baby and I need to get those health issues under control before I can even attempt to have another baby.

May I join the group too? I'm 2 weeks into my healthy lifestyle! I've got 3 months until our trip, so I'm hoping to lose about 20 pounds by then if possible. Though, my focus isn't in the weight, but into getting into my summer clothing!!!! Best wishes to all of you. I did 45 minutes on the treadmill today so the week's off to a good start. Best wishes to all!!

CJK....of course!!!... :welcome: :welcome: :welcome: :rainbow:
You will find great friends, inspiration and advice here. GREAT work on being 2 weeks in. It all starts with one day and you are on a roll...keep it going!! I am also looking to lose 20lbs in 3 months so we can use eachother for inspiration. Again, welcome!!

o2bacelt..Great job! Sounds like everything you're doing is just right. It just seems like a lot of weight loss in a short period of time to me...I guess my it's my plateau talking :lmao: Anyway, GREAT JOB!! Keep it up! DH has been pestering me as well to consider another baby, I DO NOT think so!! I will also be 37 in Sept. and if I am even to consider it, it would have to be soon. He would like a little girl but I'm pretty sure I'm a boy factory. Oh well, the baby bug bites me every once in a while until I bat it away and come back to the reality of freedom without a baby :)

For the record, after a SUPER HECTIC day of picking up and dropping off people @ the airport, running DH to mom's house to borrow truck after his van broke down, running kids across town for summer camp I was SO PROUD of my self for STILL dragging myself into the gym. Honestly, every obstacle in the world seemed like it hit today and it would have been so easy just to not go, but I did it! (pats own back)

Hope all is well around the country, here in Denver, it was an absolutely perfect day. Have a great week!

Hey everyone! I just got finished reading all of the reports that were posted both while I was gone and today. All I can say is WOW!! The overwhelming showing of love and support that I am receiving from all of you really brings me to tears everytime I read your post. Let's take this for an example. Most of you are still referring me to "Fearless Leader". I don't think I am really worthy of such a title. I may have been the one that started this thread and I may be here just about everyday trying to assist anyone I can with any of your questions or even just try to keep you motivated while you may be going through some tough times. But that is nothing that any of you haven't done as well. We are all leaders on this site because we all try to help each other. You know! More importantly, we are FAMILY!! Let me say this. My family and I had a great trip but there was one thing that I really missed. I missed all of you and the positive attitudes that you exude in every single post. Yes, we all go through those hard times during a diet or during life and it is so wonderful to know that we have a place to be able to go to to get that little bit of refreshing motivation that we all need at times.

Now, let's see if I can make a few comments on some of these posts if I may without making this toooo long.

CJK - Welcome to our family of dieters. :cheer2: :cheer2: :grouphug: :woohoo: :woohoo: :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc We are more than happy to have you join our group. I am hoping that you will find the motivation, inspiration and information that is needed for you to succeed and reach your goals. If you would, please give us some more information as far as to what kind of diet, exercise and even medical history or plan so we might be able to help you better. I am asking for medical because we want to make sure we don't suggest anything that might actually be dangerous for you. There are somethings that some people just can't do or don't need to do and I want to make sure we give you the best possible advice that we can.

O2bacelt - The diet program that you are doing seems to be working for you very well. And to answer one of your questions, yes! Dieting will help you with your cholesterol but there is more that you can do. Let me put to rest one misinformed diet myth. There ARE some healthy fats that you need in your diet. One of the most important fats that you need is Omega-3 fatty acids. This, of course, is the fat that you get from fish but you can also get it from supplements. This is helpful for you if you don't like fish or if it is just something that you don't want to have to eat every week. But here is the scientific truth. The fatty acids from fish are helpful twofold. They actually help your metabolism speed up so you are burning more calories and it will help you lower your cholesterol. It will lower your chance for heart attacks and heart disease by nearly 30%. Give that a try. I think you will like the results.

Alisaheather - you made a great point about writing down everything that you eat for about a week and analyze where you may be missing out on seeing the results that you are hoping for. I would like to open this idea up for you as well. If you would like, you can pm me (if that is more comfortable for you) or you can even share with all of us what your daily routines (diet and exercise) are like. I will be more than happy to look at it to see if I see anything and I know all of the others would be more than happy to try to help as well. We can all try to make suggestions but without knowing exactly what you are doing, we may be missing you the one or two steps that could make all of the difference in the world.

Kidsmom - I am elated to hear the medical results of your Mother. :cheer2: :cheer2: :cool1: :cool1:   :woohoo: :woohoo: Can I just be honest and say where would any of us be without our Mothers? I know we just celebrated Father's Day but I have to say that without our Mothers, this Country and all of the others would be in a lot worse shape than it is. Mothers are the backbone of this Country. God Bless them ALL! You are such a strong, formidable woman in your own right and I know you will be able to get back on the plan that you have set for yourself and win the race. Keep :moped: right along and don't get discouraged. I know you can do it!!

Momrek - That is so wonderful about your DH joining you for your walk each night. I really hopes he keeps it up. I have always said that what you all are doing for yourselves is not just for yourselves and wouldn't go un-noticed. You are and will motivate others to make a change in their lives. The more passion you show, the more results the others will get. Look at me. I have a passion for working out and exercising and sharing what I have learned. I love helping people and here at home, I might be able to help one or two. But here, look at what has been able to happen. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think that this many people would have missed me while I was gone. Truly inspirational and that is exactly what you have been able to do for your DH. :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

TLQ - What can I say? First of all, that is great that you have lost the 4 pounds from your trip but that is not what I am the most impressed with. You have lost a total of 40 pounds. :woohoo: :woohoo: :cheer2: :cheer2: That is amazing. I am so jazzed about that that I can't wait to get to the gym myself to see what I can achieve. You truly are one of the most wonderful motivations and greatest success stories that I know but I also feel like you are my sister. But I can't show favoritism because I really think of all of you as my brothers and sisters.

I think that just about covers most of it. I hope I haven't missed anything that was important. I am back and I will be here to encourage and advise anyway that is needed. Please don't be afraid to ask any questions.

Remember, IF YOU BELIEVE, YOU CAN ACHIEVE!! :thumbsup2 :cool1: :sunny:

I just uploaded a few pictures so I thought I would share them with my family here. I am only going to do one at a time so we can really get a good chuckle out of this. Today is my Anniversary so let me share this one first.

CelebratingAnniversary-3.jpg

Hope this turns out ok.

Bubba.......LOVE the ears!!! You both look terrific as you soak in the disney magic!!! Which anniversary is this? Congratulations!!!

Thank you for the welcome everyone! At the risk of sounding corny, I feel so lucky to have found such an amazing, supportive group! I have a feeling that my DIS addiction is about to get worse!!!! :p

Someone asked for a little more info. Well, I'm 32 and about 30-40 pounds overweight. I have no medical conditions. I hope to lose all the weight by the end of the year, but about 20 or so for our trip in 3 months. We're thinking of trying to conceive later this year, so I'm really trying to get myself in shape for that reason. I'm on a portion control diet (not low carb, but watchful of fat and calories). I've been doing well for 2 weeks now. I have a food journal that I've been writing in on week days. I haven't been writing for weekends, since it's so much harder (b/c we tend to visit family/friends on weekends so I'm not cooking). On weekends, I've been watching portions however. I'm taking the Materna multi vitamin. We rarely eat fish (just tuna and salmon about once a month), so I'm trying to change that!

For exercise, I work-out 5 days a week alternating between taebo and interval training on the treadmill. Dh and I also go for walks wherever possible (including weekends). I'm trying to get back into weight training too.

Here's the kicker. I have taken my measurements (and have lost a few inches already!), BUT, I simply have not been able to bring myself to stand on the scale. Dh thinks this is just terrible, but in the past, I have become a slave to it. My day would be ruined if the scale wasn't cooperating that day. I've been so fearful of going down that path again......

Do most of you weigh yourself each week? What's your routine like?

Thanks again for the warm welcome. I think I'm going to like it here!! :goodvibes

CJK - Sounds like you have a good plan going. I will say this about the scale and I think most of the others will agree with me. Do not get obsessed with the scale. That can be your biggest negative influence in a diet. From one day to the next, your weight will fluctuate up or down no matter how good or clean you may be living. It is just reality. Plus, with doing any kind of training, you are toning and becoming stronger. This means that you are turning the bodyfat into muscle. Muscle weighs more than fat so, just like lionqueen, you may loose 20 pounds of fat but gained 6 pounds of muscle. This will show you only loosing 14 pounds on the scale. So don't worry about what the scale says go by something more tangible. Go by the way your clothes are fitting and by the way you feel (energy and stamina). This is the best way to rate your success.

Hope that helps!
Bryan

Hey Bryan...WELCOME BACK!!!
I welcomed you back on the day you left, but thought I should make it official ;) I LOVE the picture of you and your wife, you both look so happy! It's the happy look that only Disney can give a person, and you both are just beaming..TOO CUTE!! Did you wear those on your anniversary..which anniversary are you on? Hope I'm not prying..just inquiring. So glad you had such a great trip, you deserved it!!!

I have had family in town all week (have a large family..you couldn't even imagine) for a softball tournament and have been busy, busy. I have managed to work out Mon & Tues, but they had games starting @ 7:30am and I didn't go today..rats! I did however walk at least 5+ miles around 4 ball parks all day. In any event, I wish I could've gone today, I was on a roll, but I will be going tomorrow for sure.

I am going Salsa dancing with 6 of my female cousins on Saturday so I should get a fairly good workout. BTW, I have never Salsa danced ever, so if you're in the Denver area this Sat. Night, avoid any salsa bar like the plague :lmao:

I hope you all have a great hump day today and a great rest of the week!! :sunny:

Bubba, I absolutely love fish! It's just a matter of getting my DH onboard, he's been pretty good though. I had done one of those make and take dinner places awhile back and I still have half a side of miso glazed salmon in the freezer so we've been working on that and I bought a large package of tilapia the other week so we've been having fish twice a week now. He's getting better about it. I've also been eating tuna once a week now for lunch and he's done that as well. He doesn't even notice that it's fat free mayo in there.

I'm hoping the no fried foods rule, the changing to low and non-fat foods, adding more fiber, eating fish, and switching to egg beaters is going to help me lower that bad number. I'm too young to be falling apart. :)

lionqueen, have fun salsa dancing! That sounds like so much fun! DH and I have talked about taking a ballroom class or two in the near future. I'm still not sure about another baby, our DD was a difficult delivery even if I didn't feel it at the time, recovery was a long time coming, and she's a rather high maintenance and I'm not sure I'm ready for that again. She's still like that, to a lesser extent, but now we've got the terrible two's on top of that. :) YIKES! I love her to death, I'm just not sure I could do it again, I know a mom with three high needs little ones and I'm not sure how she stays sane.
