Dieting for Disney

Hi all!! I'm back from Mexico!!

glad you had a great trip! Please post all the details:thumbsup2

My check in this week - FINALLY a loss, I lost 2 pounds:dance3:
I got a great pair of aisics running shoes and it has helped with the
shin splints. I've also decided to do the half marathon next year!
I've got a friend at work that's going to train with me so I'm hoping!!!

How's everyone else?

Hey everyone! I have been missing all of you so much. CJK It is great to hear that you had a wonderful trip to Mexico. I am becoming really jealous of you and all of your trips. But that's ok. You have earned them. I just wish I could have gone too. My parents have been to Mexico several times on cruises but I haven't been yet. Maybe one day.:confused3

Twotoohappy:yay: :yay: Congratulations on the loss. A two pound loss is always better than a two pound gain. I am actually trying to loose weight again myself. (I don't think I will ever be able to have the size that I want so hopefully, I can just get tighter.) Here is lots of pixiedust: pixiedust: to you hoping you reach and obtain all of your goals.

Update I thought I would give you a brief update on how I have been doing. I am still going to therapy for my knee. It's getting stronger but I still have issues. I am supposed to be going back to see the Orthopedic next week to see what he wants me to do so I am really praying for good news. Otherwise, I am still very active at the gym. Even though I am having to work extra hours right now because I had an associate just stop showing up, I am still getting to the gym 4 days a week. Even had a girl tonight tell me that my arms looked pretty big. Blew my mind!! I go to a gym where a lot of guys compete and she said that to me! WHAT??! I was floored. Anyway, it boosted my ego a little and made me feel good. Then, I went and did some cardio. I haven't been released to be able to do a full onslaught of cardio but they are letting me do some. I'll take what I can get. I just don't want to put all the weight back on that I have lost.

Well, that's about it for now. I hope all of you are doing well. I am still looking for suggestions for any kind of contest that you might want to do. Remember, this is a new year. We all made those New Year Resolutions. Let's not stop now. Besides, this will give us ample opportunity to get in the BEST shape of our lives for our upcoming vacations.

Stay motivated!!
Bryan

Congrats on being spotted for being a hottie:thumbsup2

Everyone feels better with an ego boost!

I found this website for running. Not sure if anybody else is working up to a long run but....

http://www.marathontraining.com/marathon/m_mile.html

It was wonderful! Oh yeah, the right kind of shoe makes the world of difference. I finally went to a running store where all the workers do marathons and they fitted me with the most comfortable running shoes! Asiacs gel, worth every penny. It was weird because they sized my foot, imprinted/checked my arch, checked my stride, wanted to know if I ran on the road or treadmill more and checked the alignment of my calf to my heal. If you don't get all of this done.... go to another store. It's worth it!!!

Have a great week everyone!

Hey Bubba, when's your next vacation?

Bubba - that's FANTASTIC!!! Having someone notice your hard work is such wonderful motivation isn't it? As usual, I admire your dedication even with the pain you've had to deal with. You have really helped me stay motivated. I was completely off track for 7 days in Mexico, and then 4 days back home. But then, I'd often think about you and how you haven't given up on reaching your goals, so why should I?! I'm now back on track. Tomorrow will be day 5!

If it helps any, this Mexico trip is our last trip for quite a few months!! We don't usually get so many trips in such a short time (I wish!!), it just seemed to work out that way this year. Mexico was great. We went to Mayan Riviera and Cozumel. We did lots of snorkeling, swimming in underground rivers, sight-seeing and shopping. It's so hard coming back to the real world - especially after getting used to daily dirty monkey's (kahlua and banana)!! :rolleyes1

twotoohappy - Congrats on the weightloss!! :cheer2: :cheer2: Good for you for getting good shoes. I really have to do that myself. Thanks for the link. I do interval training on the treadmill. I'm doing a 6.5km charity event this spring and I'm hoping to run some of it (I've always walked it in years gone by). You'll have to tell us about your running regime.

Not too much new with me, other than finally being back on track. I must admit that it does feel good. You just feel better about yourself when you're taking care of your body. Of course, I am going out for lunch with a friend tomorrow, and then dinner with friends on the weekend......but I really want to stay on track. I've got to lose the few lbs that I gained on the trip.

I'm all for a challenge too, but I'm at a loss over what to do! So much for my creative side! :rolleyes1

Well, I hope people are still feeling strong this new year. I still have high hopes for the healthiest year yet!

Hey all! I can't thank you enough for saying that something I have done or said has helped to keep you motivated. That means volumes to me. I don't feel worthy of the accolades but I am grateful. I actually just got back from the gym. I was able to get a pretty good chest workout and another 20 minutes of cardio. I even tried to do some handing leg raises for my abs. After the 2nd set, my knee started to hurt a little so I stopped. But the good news is that cardio didn't hurt my knee at all. I am going to step it up a little and go for 30 minutes. I am really getting focused on doing whatever it takes to be able to get my abs tighter. I.m planning on doing more crunches before I go to bed. (Oops! Now that I have said it, I have to do it. You are my support group so I can't let you down.)
CJK You have been my strength lately. I have been so motivated and encouraged by you that I feel like I can achieve anything. I can't thank you enough for all that you have done. How is your comeback road coming? It is so tough to get back in the groove when you have been able to take it easy for a while. But I know you are committed to your fitness and your health. I commend you for that.
Twotwohapppy What store did you go to for the inserts? That sounds like something that I really need. My therapist has already told me to get orthotics so maybe that will help. As far as my next vacation, it will probably be next year. We are really looking at taken the money that we spend on our vacations and try to get ahead on some of the bills to make life a little easier for us. I am dying to go somewhere though and it doesn't help that I am going to a travel show tomorrow but I have to put my priorities in order. Maybe, I will be able to sneak away to the beach or something for my birthday but otherwise, I will just be a "homebody".

Keep up the terrific effort. Let's see who can be the first one of us to loose another 5 pounds. Stay motivated! Stay enthusiastic! Stay moving! You are ALL WINNERS!!!

Guess what everyone! I am so excited about this. It looks like I am going BACK to Disney this year in September. :cool1: :rotfl: I am so excited about this that I haven't been able to get a good nights sleep for the last few days. What happen was Saturday was a Travel Show here in Birmingham and we went to it. I started talking to my TA that I have used for the last couple of years and we came up with a plan. DW and I are going to do a solo trip without the kids and stay in a nicer resort. Now, we have stayed in POP for the last few years and have really enjoyed it. But she was able to get a real good rate for Wilderness Lodge. I was really excited about that but then I started thinking that I could stay at a Moderate, save $500 and use that for something really nice for my DW. So it looks like I am going back for the 4th straight year.

With that being said, I am starting my diet early. I am hoping to go down there with some really tight abs and a lot of definition. I am increasing my cardio already. I am not going over board to quickly but I did do 25 minutes on the ARC trainer tonight and I feel great. I can't wait to start seeing the results. But, I need all of you. I need your assistance. The road is long and hard and the one thing I know I am going to need is your continued encouragement.

Twotoohappy Thanks for the information. I am going to check out that website to see what I find out.

Thanks for all of your help and support.
Bryan

Bubba - You're going to Disney!!!!!  Come April, keep your eye out for a possible free dining offer. We've gone to Disney in September during the past 2yrs with free dining. There's quite a debate going on whether it will be offered again this year, but definitely keep your eyes open just in case.

You're very kind to think about giving your dw something extra special by staying at a cheaper hotel. She's very lucky to have you!!!

There's nothing like a trip to Disney to help motivate you to continue with your healthy goals. You can do it!!!! :cheer2: :cheer2:

I must admit that I'm disappointed that I most likely won't be going in September this year. We received one of those amazing 40% off emails a couple weeks ago and have decided to go in December instead with a split stay between Pop Century and Polynesian. With the discount, one night at the Poly is $197. It's still pricy, but it has always been my dream to stay there so this is the time to do it. Too bad we won't get to meet, but maybe one day!!!

I'm continuing to stay on track. I haven't weighed myself since our trip, but I was brave enough to measure myself today. I was disappointed to see that I've gained one inch in my hips, waist and upper thigh. Ugh - and this is after being back on track for a week!! It's amazing how easy it is to gain weight! Still, rather than beat myself up, I'm using this as extra motivation. Like Bubba, I want to be in great shape for Disney!!!! I was also just asked to be a matron of honour in a wedding in August, which is additional motivation. This is going to be our year!!!!!!!!!!!! pixiedust: :cheer2:

I've been meaning to pop back in for awhile. I had gotten caught up in the Biggest Loser stuff and now that it's over I'm still recovering from a variety of craziness. :) My parents are building an extension on their house and are now without laundry and a kitchen so we've been seeing them often. My DD has been tearing up the house, like a good little toddler, so I'm trying to keep up with that. I got a cold and stomach things back to back and was out of the gym for two weeks. Just after I'd really gotten back after the holidays.

I gained 4 pounds over the holidays, not what I wanted to do, and I've been struggling to get them off, I've been gaining and losing the same three for awhile. I only got to the gym once last week and I've been both yesterday and today so I'm feeling pumped about that. I started running with the Couch to 5K program on coolrunning.com so we'll see how that goes. I'm hoping to do the Minnie in '08.

Bubba, I've been thinking about you! I'm glad you've been able to get back in the gym, I know what it feels like to not be there and really want/need to be there. Sorry about all the extra hours at work. Congrats on going to Disney in Sept! We may see you there! We're hoping to take advantage of the dining deal they've done the last two years. We're also planning a trip with my DH's family from the UK in December. That should be fun if I can get them all organized.

I will be making a concerted effort to be here more. I'm writing things down more. We're working on a family schedule these days. Trying to get ourselves under control. Not always easy but we're taking baby steps. I'm also trying to purge our house of excess stuff/clutter.

It's time for a certain toddler to go down for a nap but I'll try and check in again tomorrow!

I've missed you all!

Hi all,

I haven't meant to be away so long...I just got back from a 2-week trip to WDW...which was fabulous!!! All is well. My daughter has started taking step classes with me at the club, and that's a lot of fun. My best friend is going to take her first class there with me on Friday. I hope everyone here is well. It's been awhile...

Deb

P.S. Bubba...nice to "see" you over on my Tower of Terror thread...I was so proud of myself for riding it!

Bubba - I'm right there with you! I had something come up at work and I'm going to Disney in TWO WEEKS! I was content waiting for our family vacation, but now I can go for one day before that. One day is better than none, right?! And I'm rather envious you get to go with you DW. I have to wait until I turn 40 in a couple years before DH & I get to go by ourselves.

Took me a while to read up. Glad to hear everyone is doing well. I went back on the diet about a week ago. Recap: Lost 40ish in 6 months last year. Took a dieting break for the last 6 and still managed to lose 5 - 8 pounds. My final weight is 14 pounds away. I can't believe it. I knew I wouldn't lose it in a year, but the end is near. What makes me so excited is I was able to keep it off, and actually lose a little more, eating the way I want to. I truly did change my habits and I don't miss the pasta anymore. To me, it's nothing short of a miracle.

Hope everyone keeps doing the best they can!

Wow! What a couple of days I've had. Yesterday, I had to pull a 14 hour shift at work and then today, I had to pack up one of the stores in my area that just closed. (I'm getting all of their supplies.) Just a lot of hard work and very little rest. It has made it impossible for me to get to the gym or even get on the computer. But I see that the family has come back.

Blestmom I am so glad you had such a wonderful trip. You deserve it. The picture with you and your kids is priceless. It is obvious that you were a little nervous on TOT but you pushed yourself beyond your limits and fears. Way to go!!

O2bacelt When are you planning on going in September? We are leaving the first week. It's just going to be a quick 5 day trip but it is going to be real special. I can't wait. 213 more days. If we are going at the same time, maybe we could actually meet one day in the parks. Let me know if that would be possible and we can set something up.

Teacher31 It is so wonderful to hear from you again. We have missed you around here. Your report is inspiring to read. Being that close to your goal weight has got to help keep you motivated to achieve. You are so close. Plus, being able to lose weight during the holidays is amazing. You have shown your determination and you have shown everyone that you are truly a winner.

CJK I wish you were going at the same time as we are. You have been such a motivation with your words and your success that I would love to actually meet. You are truly an inspiration to us all. As far as my DW being lucky to have me, I don't know about that. I don't consider myself special in any form or fashion. I just try to do what I think is right. Besides, I have 2 loves in my life. (besides my family) I love my exercise and I love WDW. It's almost scary on how it can overtake you but if you think about it, it's not. I believe that for the most part, the true Disney Fans are some of the nicest people on the planet. Why is that? Well, it is because they have the "Magic" with them at all times. That's my thought anyway.

I hope all of you are doing well. TLQ - I know you have been very busy and probably stressed out but I want you to know that you are loved and missed around here. Take care of yourself!

We have just started a brand new month. Some of us have plans for an upcoming Disney trip. Some may not. Either way it goes, we are all planning for a healthy and happy 2007. Let's get out there and do what it takes. So I am proposing a little challenge. Starting Monday of next week, we are going to see how many of us can stick to doing some cardio every day. You can do it at the gym, around a local track or even around the house but let's get out there and do it. I know I am trying to increase my intensity and time that I am spending on cardio. I am also trying to do more ab work than I have for a long time. I really want to see those abs popping when I go so maybe I won't have any self-esteem issues about going to the pool.

Hope you all have a great weekend and let's get ready for next week.

See ya soon!
Bryan:cheer2:

Wow! A post two days in a row... :woohoo:

I have a question about your goal weight. I spoke with a person at Curves where I work out and she showed me the range for a person my height. It's quite a range. I know they take into account bone structure, etc., but where do YOU find your goal weight? I know flat out I'll never be as thin as I was when I married, and I don't want to be. I'm just wondering if setting my goal weight for the upper spectrum on the scale isn't right. Just would like some opinions on where you got your magic number.

Teacher31 My goals are more about size than weight. There is a very good reson for that. During my workouts, I am building muscle. Muscle of course weighs more than fat so I don't worry about my weight. I try to look at how my clothes are fitting. I also look for more definition in my body. I guess that is not the answer you were looking for but I will give you an example why I do it this way. I have had my BMI checked once before. At the time that I did it, I was the "tightest" I have ever been in my life. My BMI came back and said that I was obese. I actually had the beginnings of some ripped abs. Hope that makes sense.

Hey everyone! Today was the first day of our Cardio Challenge. Did anyone start on their program? I did. I'll be honest. I didn't want too. I have been feeling sickly all day but I still did 25 minutes of cardio after doing a 45 minute workout. Anyone else going to attempt the challenge? Let's get that motivation level back up. It's the only way we are going to keep our health where it is or even get it where it needs to be.

Hope you all have a fantastic week!

Bryan

Bryan - Thanks for confirming what I already knew. Sounds odd, but I'm dense. When I was younger and too thin, I was 10 pounds heavier than what I 'should' have been. It's been a long time since I was at my ideal weight and I know there is no way it should be as low as the charts said. Just needed someone else to confirm. Thanks.

I appreciate the cardio challenge this week! Granted it's only day 3, but it did force me to do my 3.5 miles yesterday. I'm trying to figure out when I can tomorrow due to a faculty meeting & my daughter's gymnastics ending early so they can go on their trip. Should be tight, but I'll manage somehow.

Hope everyone is doing well!

I've got two days of cardio in. I will likely end up with 5 of 7 days. Tomorrow we've got people coming for a play group and then I'll be back in the gym on Friday and Saturday.

It's been interesting starting to run (jog) I really wasn't into it when I got there, it's been very cold here (single digits) and we had snow today so I wasn't going to get in the pool. I went upstairs while DD was in her preschool class, I started walking to warm up and my pace picked up for the 30 minutes (thanks to my iPod) and it felt good when I was done. Did a little ab work and called it a day. It was a nice 45 minutes today. I'm glad I did it.

Bubba, I'm waiting to see if Disney's going to the free dining thing to decide when we're going. I'm also waiting to see if DH's company get a certain contract, who knows what will happen if they do, he's already gone so much now, it will be worse when they get the contract. It's been good for me in the respect that the only down time I get now is at the gym, they have DD and I at least don't have someone asking me "can I" every two minutes. :)

It's my time to get the small giggly thing to bed, she's finishing up her bedtime routine, I can hear her from the bedroom. I get to do the story reading (which is my favorite part anyway) and the cuddling (also my favorite part since I suspect that she won't want to cuddle with the mama forever.)

Teacher31

Hey everyone! Today was the first day of our Cardio Challenge. Did anyone start on their program?
Hope you all have a fantastic week!

Bryan

 I've been crazy busy this week and haven't checked the boards. I'm definately in on next week's challenge for sure!

Keep up the good work everyone and thanks for the idea of challenges Bryan! I need huge motivation to push it up a notch before my trip in March:shamrock:

Hey everyone! It is great to hear from all of you on how well you are doing. I understand that we all have struggles on getting to the gym. Yesterday, I had to be at the office at 8 am. I left at 11:30 to go get my workout in and then I returned at 3 pm and finally got to leave again a little after 8 that night. As I was leaving, I gave my best friend a call. (He works for a competitor.) He asked me to come over to his office for a little bit. After I got there, he introduced me to his manager and before I left, I got offered a job as the manager over their print department. :scared1: :confused3 I was shocked and somewhat scared about the opportunity. I know they use different software then what I have used in the past so there will be a need for some serious training in that respect. But I am also up for a promotion and a raise in my own company. Can we spell confliction? I have tossed and turned about this all night and don't know what to do. I don't know if I should have the next interview or should I stay where I am at and make the best of it. Oh well, I just had to get that off my chest.

I have been able to get my cardio in at the gym twice this week. On Tuesday, I did so much running at work, that I couldn't hardly move when I got off. I came home and crashed. Today, I have about three hours worth of lifting and going up and down a ladder that I will be doing at work so I feel like I am still on pace to do some cardio everyday. Teacher31 and O2bacelt - it sounds like both of you are doing wonderful this week with our little challenge. Twotoohappy - That's cool. We will start the same thing up again next Monday with the end goal insight. The ultimate goal is to attempt to see how many days in a month's time are we dedicating to ourselves and our health. Do I expect that we are going to keep this up for every single day for a month? Not really. I know my schedule won't let me do it every day. But think about what a difference it will make in the way you feel if you can do 20-25 days out of the month. I believe you may be surprised how fast the results can come in.

Hope you are all having a great day! Keep your motivation high and your eyes on the prize! The end result is worth all of the work and effort.:woohoo:

Bryan

Wow Bubba! Decisions, decisions. Sounds like you'll have to write out a list of pros and cons for each position. In the meantime, feel proud of yourself for being so wanted! You deserve it.

Good job everyone on the exercise challenge! I apologize for not being here for a few days. I had a DISASTROUS weekend food and exercise wise. I had 3 parties and forgot about my portion control method and just gave in to the call of cheesecake and nachos w/dip. OY! As of Tuesday however, I'm back on track. I've decided that my struggle to get back on track has to do with emotional eating and boredom. I'm facing this head on and have bought some new exercise dvd's, stocked up on some new healthy foods and am determined NOT to give up.

Thanks to all of you for helping motivate me. I tried pilates for the first time today and couldn't believe how bad I was at it! :rotfl: At least I tried and will continue trying. What an amazing workout!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Hey CJK! It's good to hear from you. I was wondering what had happened. You are always so dedicated to your fitness goals that it is understandable about the "temporary breakdown" over the weekend. That is not always a bad thing. We need to do that everyonce in a while just to shock your body. If all we ever do is stick to the same type of diet routine, then it isn't a diet. It is what is normal. You have to shock the system once in a while so your body doesn't get stagnate in your efforts. Don't beat yourself up about one bad weekend. Your success has been an inspiration to all of us.

Today was a physical day at the store. Still didn't get it all done but we did make some headway. The bad part is my knee hurts pretty bad tonight. I am going to take something for it and get some rest. I am looking forward to getting to the gym tomorrow night and try to hit it as hard as I can.

Otherwise, haven't made a decision yet. I am still praying and contemplating what I am going to do. I just have to look at what is going to be best for me and my family in the long run, not just short-term.
