How is everybody doing? Or are you doing?
I'm glad to say that I am still plugging away at my diet, as I go into the second week.
So far I have been able to totally purge myself of all soda, sweets, and chips, and I have been drinking lots and lots of water to help clean out my system. I haven't had a single drop of soda in over a week now. No snacks at all, and only a very small bite (yes just one bite) of a chocolate bar after supper for dessert every day. For the first three of four days I had major headaches from the lack of caffeine and sugar, but now those have seemed to gone away.
My goal this week is to start adding excercises as well. I'll try to keep occassional updates going to see how everyone is doing.
So how are you doing? I know quite a few people said they were going to start as well last week. Are you still sticking with it? I hope so, because I hate to think that I'm the only one suffering through this.

Dieting sux..............

Think about lifestyle changes to keep the weight off once you've lost it.

When I first wanted to drop a few pounds I joined the gym. Now, three years later, I wouldn't feel right without my daily hour of pure, self-inflicted torture.

That is my eventual goal, although it's not really so much about the weight. I mean sure, I could probably use a few less pounds in the midsection, but for me it's more of a blood sugar kind of thingy.
Hopefully, now that I have survived the hardest part - getting off the soda and sweets and chips, I can start adding more and more excercises until I get to the point where, like you say, I can torture myself for an hour or so on a daily basis. it also seems a bit easier mainting the no soda and stuff than it does actually getting off of them.

Getting rid of sweets (especially processed sugars) is a good first step. :thumbsup2 And I can oooooh so relate to the DT's from sugar, caffeine and ~cough~ alcohol. :rotfl:

Don't forget to add some more protein to your diet too. That'll keep your body from burning muscle instead of fat in the transition.

And the absolute best part of a daily workout!?.........the shower afterwards. :teeth:

Good for you, keep up the good work. Lifestyle changes are hard, but so worth it. They say it takes 3 weeks to form a habbit, so you only have one more week left to go!

Last week was hard given up the carbs but it was worth it. Down 4 pounds with lots to go. Was going to start walking around the track this week but it got real cold again and they're predicting snow.

I'm with you - I haven't given up the soda though - I have to have my sweet diet sodas or forget it. I have exercised on the treadmill last week every day for 40 minutes (except for saturday) - I went to two parties this weekend and didn't partake in any cakes, chips, or any other bad party foods. Stop and Shop has all lean cuisine meals on sale this week - I find that if I just have a meal for lunch, I control my portions, and I'm satisfied. I do have a small treat every day - either a low cal hot chocolate, frozen fruit bar, pretzels, ect... It's so nice to come here and chat about this.

OK, week two and I weigh .2 lbs more than I did last week... and after all that hard work! Although I did take the weekend off exercise(due to shin splints) but I laid off the junk, only drank 1 Pepsi (had to), and drank LOTS of water and seltzer with lemon! Was back on treadmill and Bowlex this morning and I do feel better already! PS- I did get new "walking" sneakers, did you?

Nope, no new shoes yet. I'll probably wait to get them for a while. Here in Mexico they can be a whole lot more expensive then in the states. We'll see how it goes, and play it from there.

I am still hanging in there... got a couple of days of great excercise in and did "okay" with the eating. Room for improvement on the eating ;)

Started my "diet" ( I realy hate that word) Mid January when I found out I would need more knee surgery in June of this year. Since I will be on crutches for six weeks afterwards I decided I needed to drop a lot of weight to make it easier on recovery. I have lost 23 pounds so far and thats about a third of my goal. I'm doing okay but has hit a plateau and know I have to kick it up to keep going and just havn't been motivated that last several days. So I think I will start more exercise tomorrow and see if I can't get going again.

That's great!! Are you just cutting out "crap" food or really doing a "diet"???

It's a real diet. I usually only eat three meals a day, no snacks, walk daily and go about my normal life. I know most diets say no caffiene as well but get real, how in the world do you do that? They also say stay away from artificial sweetners but I still use those as well. I supplement with vitamins, and am also taking Chromium Picolinate. The Cp helps with cravings and kind of levels me out from one meal to the next. I will admit that it is a modified low carb diet and some folks run screaming away from those saying that they are not healthy. I eat meat, but do not over indulge and try to make it with the least amount of fat, and I also eat green vegetables, salad, cheeses, and about the only thing I have really cut out is the really high carb stuff. But after all aren't most of the high fat, high car snack foods the stuff that you tend to sit around and munch on anyway? Chips, crackers, candy, and things like that are bad for you on any diet and cutting down, or back is a part of any healthy eating plan. The other thing I do is stay busy. When I get home I change cloths and find something to do other than sit in front of the TV. I garden, I do projects in the garage, I clean up the house, anything at all to keep my mind from thinking about food. Within the first week I noticed by doing other things my mind was not preoccupied with food. Also within a couple of weeks I noticed that the amount of food I ate was considerably less and that no doubt helped with the overall weight loss.

No if I can just keep it up for the next three months and the after surgery make it a regular part of my life I should be fine.

Hey How's everyone doing??? We are just back from AKL & a miserable time getting there with PA snow & closed airports, took train to Baltimore by time we arrived that airport closed too, scrambled for hotel rooms, flew out next morning stand-by, arrived with no ME transportation after confrmd all 2 days before we left, fit us on, took 2 hrs to get to resort, missed the Cheer competition on Saturday was chilly (but better than PA temps) had a whirl wind tour of The World, loved the dining plan and now we're back home! I've got to first take a breath and then hit the tread-mill!!!!!!
