I was wondering if anyone could share any experiences you may have had with any pills for weight loss, energy, etc. I'm just wondering if it might help me to try something out to jumpstart my weight loss. I know pills aren't magic and I can't just sit around and lose weight, but I'm hoping there's something that can help me get more out of my workouts and dieting. Once I get down to my goal weight, I feel pretty confident about maintaining it, but we'll see, of course! Any information would be appreciated! Thank you!

Haven't done diet pills in 18-20 years... don't know if they are any better now, but back then they were basically prescribed speed. I tried a couple of different types at different times with different doctors... same basic results. Sleeping was difficult, I felt "funny" most of the time, one time I just didn't eat anything for 3 straight days, muscles in my throat got to where it was hard to swallow, and whenever I stopped taking them I went back to my "old" ways.

They have had new ones come out... some have turned out to have dangerous side effects. If you go that route, be careful... and talk to your regular doctor and/or go to a bariatrics specialist. I went to a couple of docs that "specialized" in weight loss... they weren't specially trained and I was more of a customer than a patient.

I took some pills from the store called ThermoSlim. I probably still have them. But they made me really jittery. Almost like I could feel my heart beating through my chest. I've often thought like you maybe I should try something for a jumpstart. But I never have. My brother in law is an infomercial addict and he buys all the pill on late night tv. I've contemplated "borrowing" them from him and giving a try. But my DD is still nursing so I don't want to take anything. I can say he hasn't had any long term success on them. He does Body for Life and he does really well while he's on it. He'll drop 20+ pounds in the 12 weeks.

good luck if you try some!

I have taken diet pills in the past. At one time, I had tried just about everything on the market. (This was just a few years ago.) The good part about it was that it did give me an insane amount of energy and I lost 52 pounds in 3 months. The bad part of it was if I wasn't taking the pills (or an energy drink), I didn't have any energy and I always wanted to rest and sleep. It took a good little while for the pills to wear off and for me to get some of my own metabolism back.

I would recommend some things more simple. First, make sure you are on a good multi vitamin. (Not what you get at Wal-Mart.) Second, drink some coffee or something with some caffene for that little boost that might be needed. Third, be devoted to your exercises. Exercise will give you more energy. That is why most people can not go straight to bed after working out. It will build endorphins.

Hope this helps! Please let us know if you have any more questions.

Just answered on the other vitamin thread......in a nutshell the best product I have found is Peak Endurance. It is all natural with ATP being the main ingredient, but also all of the electrolytes, magnesium, and B vitamins. It wont "jump start" your system, but it will give you more energy to tolerate longer and harder exercise.

Please don't go the pill route! I've done it before, and yes, they work, if you can stand the side effects....jitters, mood swings, anger, sleeplessness, heart-racing, dry mouth, bad breath...oh, and when you stop taking them, you gain the weight back pretty quickly.

A friend of ours had taken them off and on for years....then one day at work he had trouble breathing, and went numb. Rushed him to the hospital and he's had a mini stroke....at the age of 39. Dr.'s told him not to take those pills....EVER again.

Just my opinion, but there are better/healthier ways of losing weight.
Another product is AdvoCare....works for my husband, and I LOVE the Spark energy drink! www.advocare.com

Good luck, and be careful!

I'm another vote for no pills! My sister had real issues with them in high school and it wasn't pretty. Things may have changed since then, but I'm still against it. Until supplements become FDA regulated I'd steer clear. The bottom line (in my opinion) is in order to lose weight and keep it off you need to make healthy lifestyle choices. Small steps over time make a greater long-term impact. You CAN do it, it just might take a little longer to see results - but knowing that you are making lasting changes makes it worth the effort.
