I am now starting the fourth day of my diet, and so far I'm doing pretty good (at least on the eating part, but not so much on the exercising part). I have had no soda, chips, snacks or sweets, and I've cut out all inter-meal snacking. Unfortunately I am getting horrendous headaches from the lack of caffeine and sugar. I know they will go away in a couple of days, but during this first week, they are killers.
Hopefully by next week, I'll be over the headache phase, so I can start implementing more exercising as well (it sure isn't easy trying to exercise when your head is throbbing).
So how is everyone else doing who also just recently started their diets? Have you lost any weight yet? We lent somebody are scale a few weeks ago, so I haven't been able to weigh myself, but I'm pretty sure I've dropped a couple of pounds so far. Have you been able to stick with your resolutions? Or have you "cheated" a little bit?

Sounds like you are doing well! Keep up the good work. I've always found that getting past the 3rd day is hardest for me.

I am in a weight loss class at my church based on the book The BEST Body Plan. It's a Bible-based program, and relies on building lean muscle. I enjoy doing the weights, but I hate the aerobics portion. My eating has been so/so. Better, not as good as it ought to be. I have lost only about 5lbs, but I am able to wear a pair of jeans I couldn't a couple months ago. At 5'7" it'll take another 10lbs for anyone to notice that I've lost weight, and I would like to lose a total of about 30lbs.

Great work! It's better to make one change at a time. Give your body another couple of days on the diet and then maybe walk around the block. Start off easy. Experts say the one thing that turns people off from an exercise program is that they start off too streuously.Good luck and keep up the good work-4 days is anawesome beginning.

Was just thinking about your 1st post this morning, & wanted to check-in with you! Sounds like you motivated a bunch of DIS'ers, thanks!!! I'm doing OK, have been exercising although shins are killing me,LOL! Trying not to weigh myself until weeks end. I'm doing the 15 day dance for our trip & wondering what the dining plan is going to do to all this hard work?!?!??!?! HAHAHAHAHHA

Great! Glad to hear it!
One thing I've learned throughout the years - Misery truly does love company!!!! :rotfl:
Seriously, though, it does help to have others you can talk to, encourage and be encouraged by when you are going through a difficult time, or trying to change a bad habbit (I think dieting qualifies for both of these).
I hope others also get the dieting bug, and can share how they are doing as well.

BTW, my shins seem to be one of the first things that get me when I start getting serious about walking. I never had them growing up, but now as an adult I seem to have to fight shin-splints quite often. The shoes I wear are OK, but I really do think I need to invest in a really nice pair of walking shoes to help avoid the problem.

I said the same thing about the new sneaks!!!! DH said "I suppose you'll be needing a new walking outfit to go with those new sneakers, too"?!?!?! SURE!!!! I didn't stretch out enough yesterday either, was in a rush to do my 30 minutes at 4.5mph; I think thats what did my shins in!!!(And I felt like I was going to fall on my face!) So the thought for the day is stretch... and not into the pantry for a snack bag!!!!

Keep up the good work guys!:cheer2: I am starting day 1 of a lifestyle change today. ( I refuse to call it a diet) I joined Sparkpeople about a year ago and also started walking. has anyone else done Spark? I lost 28 pounds!!:cool1: I somehow went right back to my old habits and have regained 10 pounds!!!:scared1: I hate feeling like I do so I am back at it today. Excerise is the biggest down fall for me. I HATE IT and will think up any excuse to get out of it. I have a friend in the coast guard and she would meet me on our lunch time and we would walk together, it really helped having a friend (drill sargent)to walk with. Guess I need to pick up the phone and make that call. Good luck to everyone

Have you ever tried "Calf Raises" to strengthen the muscles around your calfs and shins? Also a good stretching session before and after your walks may help as well.

Good Luck!

Interesting. I've done the stretching thing (all though I probably could be a little better at it), but have never tried raisins. I might just have to give that a try. Thanks for the tip! :thumbsup2

It's so funny I found this thread because I am on day 4 also. Opposite of the OP I am exercising and have not changed my eating habits yet. I'm not that much into eating so the exercising is the hard part for me. I went to Oprah's website with Bob Greene to see what her plan is. It's a little to harsh for me. Did Weight Watchers years ago and that is better I think. I hate it when they tell you "You can't have this or that". Oprah's is very much like that.

My biggest eating obstacle is Pepsi! I love that stuff! I can drink in the morning, mid morning, afternoon, mid afternoon...anyway you get the picture ;) I'm down to once a day but it is really hard.

Every morning I make up some excuse not to exercise but hopefully I will continue on and get into a habit. My throat was a little sore last night and I told myself I better not exercise today because it will take me longer to get well.

So off to the treadmill. At least we have Tivo in the back and I can watch my soap opera and it passes the time easier.

Thanks OP for starting the thread! Let's commisurate together!
