I am trying to lose some weight and this is not a New Years thing. I bought the DDP just so I could budget better. I was wondering in anyone had any tips on healthy places to eat for our counter service meals.

Thanks

I like the Columbia House at MK. A nice selection of sandwiches. Just pass on the chips.

Plus all that walking is bound to be helpful. ;)

Dieting is now allowed at disney!

Seriously... take the week off, in my opinion. you'll be doing plenty of walking and sweating to work it off. Don't stress over what you can't eat... too many nummies at the World!

1. At Epcot, go to the Mexican lunch place outside. Get a salad, but go easy on the dressing and cheese
2. At MK, the Pinochio (spelling?) Haus has sandwiches on multi-grain bread. Just skip the bacon, and no mayo or dressing. Comes with baked potato chips.

I am on Weight Watchers (WW) and while I don't plan on counting points while there, I am not going to binge either. I have taught myself to stop when full, push my plate away.

On allearsnet.com you can look at all the menu's, although some may be a little out of date they are pretty close to what is still being offered now. I have checked them over so that I have a somewhat of idea of where I can get veggie burgers and healtier choices. But I also have selected a few MUST have deserts too!

I love WW because nothing is excluded. I have learned how to control my portions even when given too much. I have fought too hard to lose this weight and yes even though I am on vacation my fat cells aren't....lol

Good luck!!

Sunshine Seasons in Epcot has some good choices and we have always enjoyed our lunches there.

Tusker House in AK has salmon and chicken, both of which we thought were good.

Back in March Cosmic Rays in MK has a Rotisserie chicken that was tasty...just don't eat the skin.

There's a lot of healthy food options at WDW, so I think your focus on healthy food versus dieting makes a lot of sense.

I might suggest trying vegetarian dishes as one option; you have to choose what you eat carefully so you're not just loading up on pasta, breads and cheeses, but it does offer you choices. Allears.net has a guide to counter services: http://www.allearsnet.com/din/vegtsparks.htm

You could also choose to modify what you eat--others have suggested the sandwich without the chips/fries. Maybe you could substitute a salad with the dressing on the side (and without all the high-cal toppings like cheese and croutons). You might choose to make your burgers open-faced, eating only half the bun. Or you might choose kids meals, with healthy alternatives if you can get them, because at least the portion sizes will be truer to guidelines.

Hope this helps!

There are also some great fruit choices for breakfast and snacks. The usual bananas, apples, and there's is usually a good size fruit cup at the resort food courts.

Check the WISH thread for great advice and tips on watching what you eat while touring Disney.
