We arrived at the AKL around 10a.m. after eating breakfast at the Royal Plaza. When checking in at the front desk(I do all this since my husband has no clue what to do), the woman behind the counter proceeded to say I had two rooms booked...I politely told her that I only had one booked and that I could never afford two rooms. I was thinking to myself "uh oh, this is not good, they messed up my reservations already". She then kindly told me that they ran out of deluxe savannah rooms and that they were giving me a connecting room. I asked her "FOR FREE?" and she said YES. I couldn't believe it. I was ecstatic!! Our rooms weren't ready so we headed out into the AK. We ate at the Flame Tree BBQ for lunch. It was very good and filling. Watch out for the birds. They dive for your food. We sat in an area which we had all to ourselves, that overlooked EE. That got us siked up for our first ride. So, after we ate, we did Dinosaur which was a 15 min. wait, EE was a 75 min. wait-longer than what was posted, and a walk-on for ITTBAB. We went back to the AKL because we were anxious to check out our rooms and go for a swim. We were in rooms 3581 & 3583. They were WAY at the end of the inner circle but I wasn't going to complain since we got a room for free. One room had two queen beds and the other bunk beds and one queen bed. But we had two bathrooms and that's what counts the most when you have a family of five. We were able to see giraffe, zebra, and kudu every day.
We had dining reservations at Jiko for dinner later that evening. I have to say I wasn't real impressed. My two younger sons hated their food which was very expensive. I liked mine which was the roasted chicken and potatoes. My one son got that too and just didn't like the spices. My husband got the scallops which he liked, older son the filet mignon. The waiter just wasn't real personable and seemed a little stuffy. We were able to get 20% off using my DDE card which we would later find out that it would pay for itself after three meals. It was so nice to have and I would recommend this for anyone who's not on the dining plan and has an AP which I purchased for a later Dec. trip.
My two older sons and myself decided to go to MK that evening since it had the EMH. Splash Mtn, BTMRR, and Haunted Mansion were all walk-ons. We didn't want to stay too late since we had to get up early for MGM. This day was a great start to our vacation. Day 2 at the AKL coming up...

Very cool that you got the extra room! You all must have loved having the extra space, and enough beds for everyone to sleep alone! Nice score.

Thanks for posting.

WOW I am impressed......a free room for nothing.....nice for that to happen.....I love the dde and the discounts for food......thanks so much for your report

Excellent ~ I bet you enjoyed all that extra space.

It was wonderful but spoiled us after moving over to the BCR. I can't see doing it any other way in the future but unfortunately we could never afford two rooms at the AKL.
