My DD who is 17 convinced me to let her go to England this Feb. during break with a few girlfriends to visit some friends they have over seas. Well she booked her flight and now doesn't know if she wants to go. Her best friend isn't going and is mad at her (long Story) and to make matters worse she is scared to fly. Does anyone know if they will refund her money for this foolish reason. The web site said to explain your reasoning for canceling and then you will recieve an refund depending on their decision. I thought maybe someone on these boards had to cancel a flight from Virgin and might have some advice. Thanks in advance for any input.

Hi

I doubt very much they would refund your money for those reasons. Refunds are normally under unforseen circumstances and these do not come under it. Also the insurance is normally the company that pays out should you need to cancel. Perhaps the airline could transfer your flight to somewhere else perhaps somewhere you could go at a later date. Other than that I doubt you will see your money again.

I would expect it depends on the type of ticket purchased, low cost economy tickets I would say no chance but my brother pays for flexible tickets with Virgin so he can move dates and times.
Only experience I had with a refund was when my Mum passed away 2 years ago, I got in touch with Expedia, 4 of us were still making the trip so wanted to cancel 1 ticket. Expedia said under no circumstances do they refund money for flight tickets, not really someting you want to be dealling with when you have just lost a parent but I emailed Continental Airlines direct They could not have dealt with it better (start of their email below it had more compassion than from some of my family!) they got expedia to refund and they kept a very happy customer. Sorry to go slightly off topic but it not often we praise airlines.

"Thank you for your email. I am so sorry to learn that Mrs. xxxxxx passed away unexpectedly. I am certain that this is a very hard time for you. Please accept my sincere condolences for the loss of your mother."

She's got nothing to lose by trying. Virgin is a very 'human' company and might be prepared to show some compassion. I would emphasise the fact that she is 17 and afraid of flying, and that she got 'caught up in the moment' and has had second thoughts. Just explain the whole story.

Let us know how she gets on. :grouphug:

How was the ticket paid for?

If she paid for it herself, then she is under 18 and cannot lawfully enter into a contract and certainly cannot be held to one. Tell Virgin that neither side had any lawful grounds to enter into a contract and it is therefore void and that you wish the flight ticket rescinded with a full refund.

If it was paid with an adult's credit card, then the contract is lawful - and stands.

If she is going in feb has she only paid a deposit? If she has paided in full, you could try the full payment wasn't due till xxxxx tact. I very much doubt if you will get a full refund. It took me loads of calls this year to get mine, and it was virgins fault I wanted to cancel (hotel had building work around it, not the package I booked e.c.t) just keep going on and don't give up, you may repeat yourself a few times but if they know you won't go away.......hope you sort it out..good luck :shamrock:

Thanks for all your answers. Well, She came home from school with a different attitude then the one last night. Now she is going again. So no need to cancel the ticket which I doubt we would have gotten any money back on because I paid for it in full on my charge card. Now I just have to worry about her traveling around Europe. :confused3 A mothers job is never done. I'll get back to you when it's time to help the girls plan. Thanks again for your help.

Hope she has a great time. Shame you can't go too!
