Traveling with a family of 5, DS ages 7 and 9, DD age 4...
The AKL did a great job of keeping us informed about the storm preparations, park hours, etc... Their phone message system was very handy and we felt updated.
We got an early start to the MK on Friday after hearing that the parks would only be open until 1:00pm and only to hotel guests. We had 9:00 PS for CRT, which the boys hated and DD loved! Cinderella, Aurora, Mary Poppins, Belle all were so sweet to DD, we got some great pictures. This breakfast was so worth it, Cinderella even teased the boys. The younger one went hiding under the table.
After breakfast, it was off the Tomorrow land for the boys. Walked on Buzz Lightyear with minimal wait and everyone had a blast. Then we went on Space Mountain, again with a minimal wait. It was odd to see the MK so uncrowded! It had almost an errie feel to it. DD thought Space Mountian was okay, she went one twice and then she had enough. DH took the boys to the Tomorrowland Speedway and SM again, and DD and I went off to Fantasyland!
We rode Pooh with a 5-10 minute wait, and then hit Peter Pan. I think this was our longest wait of the trip, it took about 40 minutes. After getting off Pan, our boys were waiting for us, and we all walked into Mickey's Philharmagic. What an awesome show that everyone enjoyed. I would have liked to see it again, it was so mucbh fun for everyone (even DS age 9 who thought Mickey shows were for babies).
By this time it was almost 1:00pm and they were making the announcements that the MK was closing.
We walked to the AKL bus stop with the mounds of people that were making their mass exodus for the park. This was the only time that we had to wait a long time for a bus (about 35 minutes). It was starting to sprinkle at this time. It was interesting to see the hurricaine preparations going on, they were tying up signs @ the MK. Everyone seemed to be calm though, there was no grumbling or panic in the air.
Back @ the AKL, the place was hopping! The lobby was full of people and we went back to our room for some rest. The boys played their game boys for awhile, and DD fell asleep.
Around 4:00 we all went around and explored the resort, the kids did the scavenger hunt for a bit, and met Rafiki, Goofy and Pluto in the lobby. Again, we got some great pictures.
The staff was so nice and so helpful. At dinner time, we picked up our box lunches and went back to the room. The kids had cereal and donoguhts that we had picked up (we kept milk in our cooler) and we ended up taking their sandwiches to the park with us the next day. They thought it was great to have breakfast for dinner!! To them it was an adventure.
Weather wise it did not seem that bad yet, but you could tell that the wind and rain were starting to pick up. We knew that the eye was supposed to hit around 9:00 pm, and one of our boys was very stressed about it. We ended up putting the kids to bed (we had connecting rooms) around 8:30, telling them that it was over and was just a bad rainstorm and they were all alseep by 8:45!
Yes, I lied to the kids about Charley and I would do it again!
So the kids were alseep and calm, we sat in front of the television and watched the weather until 10:30pm. Right after the kids went down DH walked to the lobby and it was pretty much empty except for CM and security. They were taping the windows and had sandbags in front of many of the doors. DH was asked to return to his room as soon as possible. When we were sure that the worst had passes, we also went to bed.
