Did your kids use glow sticks?

I was thinking of buying some to take on our trip, but did your kids actually wear them? I know I would, and my younger brother said he might. Are they worth it?

Thanks!

I use them for every vacation we go on. DD normally likes to wear them but depending on where we are, I really enforce it.

Example:
This past weekend we were camping. We had a field area and it was so dark that we couldn't see the children after a certain time. Well, out came the glow sticks and if they wanted to continue to play, they each had to wear one so we could tell exactly where they were.

I was thinking of this for upcoming trip.

I know we got some for Halloween last year, but due to Hurricane Wilma, DS10 could only go trick or treating before dark (since most of our county still had no power and there were debris piles in every yard), he didn't use them. They were awesome though for the rest of the time we didn't have power, at night. It was just enough light so you didn't wake up in a panic from pitch black conditions, and even was bright enough for trips to bathroom.

Not only are they on my Disney list, but my hurricane supply list too.

Okay-so now I'm going to buy glow sticks. Where did you find yours?

I loaded up on glow necklaces and bracelets at the dollar store before our trip (thinking that would be something the kids would beg me for and it would cost 5 times as much in disney). I thought that I would be able to spot my kids better at night. (which really was not the case, since Disney is sooo well lit anyway. I handed them to the 3 older ones who were not as excited as I thought they would be ( for heaven's sake, they were in Disney for the first time and were already in sensory overload, so they didn't need anything else to make them happy.) The problem was the 2 year old naturally cried for one becasue everyone else had one. I gave him one too, even though I think the packaging says 3 and up. I thought "what harm could it possibly do?" Well about 5 minutes later a kid in line for a ride is pointing at my 2 yr old and saying "wow! look at that kid glowing!" Yes, he had bit through the tube and the contents were all over him, in his mouth, hair, smeared all over his face. I freaked out, not knowing how poisonous it was. Turned out he was fine.....but just my word of caution not to use these with the little ones or any biters. Also, my older ones were quite aware that much grander things were being sold in Disney than their plain old glow necklaces from the dollar store....so I don't know if it was worth the trouble or not.

We bring glow sticks to Fantasmic for our kids.
I even found in the $ store a glow stick head band which is shaped like Mouse Ears. I have not tried them yet - but plan to bring them down to WDW for the kids. I will also get the glow sticks with the necklace string for them.

Fantasmic sells glow sticks and such - but I would rather spend $6 on a few glow items from our $ store than spend $30 on 3 glow items at WDW.

I also get the mini flashlights from the $ store for my kids. They can clip onto their fanny packs, only turm on when the button is pressed and will give a small light to a scared child in a dark ride (they point the flashlight down or into their hand so not to disturb other guests)

Do they sell glow sticks at Fantasmic the ones you hold in your hand or the glow necklaces? I am bringing some glow items for our next trip. I would like to buy in advance as close to what Disney sells. Thanks.

Do not buy from the Dollar Store. It's a 50/50 chance of them not working.

You can get them from ebay, Oriental Trading, etc...

I normally buy the bracelets and if they want a necklace, they can just put more together. As long as DD wears the bracelet, I'm happy. I hate not being able to see where she is at all times if she is playing. Again, it was a lifesaver for our camping trip as it was pitch black in the field. We could count the glow sticks and make sure they were all accounted for.

Spent $8 at Dollar Tree for 16 necklaces, then spent $12 for 33 necklaces on eBay. No comment (yet) on reliability.

If you go to Fantasmic, half of the people wear or have lights/glow things. Make sure what you take is easy to pack to take to the park. So I would recommend bringing some for some days, but not all.

We used them, and found that in our kids' eyes, they are not a substitute for the cool spinny lightup toys and whatever else. They loved the glow sticks, but still drooled over the Disney toys.

I also tied one to my backpack, to make it easier for them to find me as we wandered the world after dusk. And tied a couple to the stroller, to make IT easier to find when we came out of a ride after dark.

Have a great time!

I bought mine on EBAY from the seller Glow Granny. Great price and didn't really have a problem with not working maybe 1 or 2. My nephews loved them also I went to the disney store at the mall by my home and had bought them the light chasers from them and took them in the suitcase, they were on sale so they were only about 1/2 price or less than the ones they were selling at WDW. They liked that they still had disney light chasers and that not everyone in WDW had the same as them.

I buy my glow necklaces, bracelets and rings at Target and I got them @ Wal-Mart after Halloween for 44 cents ea. I put them in everybody's disney bags and we all wore them. I try to buy as much as I can ahead of time. My dd has a buzz and tinkerbell light spinner thang we take every yr. for the night shows that we got @ the disney store half off.
Have fun!

I buy mine at WalMart. We have the necklaces and the sticks. DS loves them. Also, they make great nightlights in the motel bathrooms.

I've gotten my from oriental trading and they work great. If you have little ones don't wait until evening to use them. DD wear them on the rides that are dark. It gives them just enough light not to be scared. Store them in Freezer after you use them and they may last for more than a night. For Necklaces we always connected more than one bracelet together thay way they could have more than one color.

I got my at Publix, for 25 cents a pack, but this was Halloween day after a hurricane, ALL their Halloween stuff was priced great, because no one was buying Halloween stuff as not many folks were doing Halloween. :guilty:
