Did you think your baby was ugly (at first)?

When I had my first child, I'd never seen a brand-spankin' new baby. I didn't know that they looked funny. So, when they handed him to me, I thought, "Oh, my God. He's weird-looking! I have an ugly baby! Oh, my poor little baby." I thought he'd have to go through life being this freaky-weird looking child...

He started seeming cuter and by the next day I (being the mom) thought he was the most adorable creature God had ever put on the Earth.

I saw a friend's new baby and was telling her how adorable he was and she told me that she didn't think he was all that cute at first. That when he was newly born, "I was kind of like..." and she made a scared face. :scared:

I told her my ugly-baby story and she was laughing and saying, "Yes! YES!!" She now thinks, of course, that her baby is the most adorable thing God ever put on the planet.

We can't be the only ones.

Oh, yes. A truly cute baby who is less than 4 weeks old is a rare thing --most of them look like wizened little pointy-headed elves at first.

DD's just really getting cute now, IMO, and she's 19 months old.

My oldest DD - born breach - had a badly shaped head for awhile.. I didn't think she was "ugly", but I didn't really think she was "adorable" either.. Luckily that period didn't last long.. LOL..:rotfl:

I thought my babies were beautiful and that everyone else who thought theirs were beautiful was just blinded by motherly love. When I look back I see I might have had some blinders, too, although neither of my girls had pointy heads.

When I pulled the 8X10 newborn pic out of the envelope, I actually jumped back, and I sent it back to the company.

My oldest looked like she had a toupee for her first few months.;)
My youngest was cuter, but had some scaly skin thing between her eyebrows for about 7 months.
Both were still wonderful though

I'm the baby--gotta love me:goodvibes

No. I thought my children were gorgeous from the get go.

I did have trouble getting pregnant and loved and thought they were gorgeous from the moment of conception.:goodvibes

They all looked like ET, and even though ds #1 was 8 1/2 pounds, he looked like a scrawny chicken. My middle dd was almost 9 pounds, so she looked the cutest, but my twins were 6.3 and 6.12, so little ET's!:rotfl2:

DD20 was a splotchy squeeze head - sorry about the 26 hours in labor, honey. It sure didn't do much for your looks but it was no picnic for me, either. I thought she was lovely the first time I saw her but when the meds wore off...:scared1:

She is adorable now!!!

DD15 was a beautiful rose from the get-go - she was a planned section so no squeeze head. She is and always has been adorable, too.

I had blinders on but I thought he was cute from the start, once they covered his head up! He was a STRONG conehead!!

So he was a little yellow but I don't think he had any of the "common" newborn look to him ... Either way ...

Cute then, Cute now!!! :thumbsup2

I was in labor for 17 hours (before emergency C-section) so DD's face was smashed against my cervix for a long time. When she was finally delivered, she had this little hooked nose. I swear, my first thought was "How in the hell did she get <a friend of mine>'s nose?"

DH calls all brand new babies -- "little old men dipped in 90 weight". They are not cute things.

I'm not really an infant person though & I really would just prefer the babies after they are all cleaned up thank you very much. I always dreaded the part before they got all nice and clean.

I'm also the bad mom that I only could tell my 3rd kid was *mine* everytime they brought him in instantly (probably because he was an over 9 pounder there so it was pretty obvious compared to the little 6 & 7 pounders!), the other ones...good thing they matched ID bracelet numbers up or ??? All the babies bundled up mostly looked the same to me.

My firstborn was beautiful from the get-go. Never had that wrinkly newborn look (but she was a week early).

My second daughter, however, we quickly christened "Yoda" ;) . She had (well, still has) these floppy ears, big eyes, bald head, and scrunched up face. My mother was mortified that we would call her that, but we still thought she was adorable...by the time she was six months, though, she was gorgeous (and I don't think I'm being too biased in that assessment  )

DS was born almost 6 weeks early after a terrible pregnancy and emergency c-section (which I was put to sleep for).
When I was finally awake enough to see him, they brought him in to me....
He looked like a wrinkled old man. Very ruddy color and TINY (weighed 4-14).
I thought he was the ugliest thing I had ever seen......:guilty:

DH said "Isn't he CUTE?". I thought he had lost his mind!!
I said "here take him". and went back to sleep.... OMG>......

A couple of weeks later, when he put on a little weight and got a better color, he was the cutest little thing.... but oh at first. WOW>

Mine were not the cutest things either, but like I just told my oldest (who is now 20) you tend to think they are cute because labor is over and you're delirious.

Nah, I thought mine were beautiful from the start, but I was pretty familiar with babies and knew what to expect. What shocked me with my firstborn was how white his hair, eyebrows, and eyelashes were - in my whole family history of very fertile women, I'd never seen a baby look like that before. He still has blond hair now, but its not the glow-in-the-dark white of his baby years.

My daughter was born by c-section and really was beautiful when she was born. However, two things:

1. The absolute first thought I had when I looked across the room and saw my daughter for the very first time was "wow, look at the size of her mouth!! It takes up half her head!!" LOL.

2. I had never seen a newborn baby butt and for a long time, until she added weight onto her body, I was convinced she had a birth defect and was actually pretty upset for her. I thought she would always have a crack half way up her back. I didn't realize it was her butt crack in the making and she just didn't have any meat on her bones yet. Thank goodness she has a perfectly normal butt now (not that I've seen it in a few years).

:lmao:

They pretty much all look like Winston Churchill to me--baldish, big jowls, no chin, my own kids included. I've never gotten the cooing over the beautiful babies.

My niece was the ugliest baby ever--old Winston would have been a huge improvement. She was the spitting image of Snuffy Smith.

My son looked like a splotchy fish and DD was so weird looking that I refused to have professional pictures taken of her in the hospital! :scared: They're such cuties now, but I AM biased!::yes::

I don't have any kids, but I do have 14 nieces & nephews. I saw 1 of them the day she was born, when she was about 12 hrs old. And while she wasn't ugly, she was kind of funny looking--her ears stuck out, she had big feet, and no hair. But she quickly became adorable, and now at age 10, she's a beauty. The ears don't stick out anymore, her hair is beautiful, but she does still have big feet!

My mom did admit to us that she thought 5 of the 6 of us were funny looking. I've seen pictures--she was right! But one of my sisters was a beautiful baby, and she's still beautiful today. The rest of us had to wait to be cute, especially me. I was scrawny, red, and bald. :lmao:
