Just spoke with the person who is handling the closing of the contract we sold.

She said the buyers sent her a personal check which means she has to wait a little longer for it to clear than normal.

Did you send a personal check when you bought your resale?

I thought they normally expected certified funds?

Just curious.

I was told NOT to send a personal check, that they wouldn't except it. I had to send a bank check...

We chose the wire transfer option..it was there in an hour...there is a fee. I think it is worth it. We closed yesterday on BCV and should be in the system next week.

This is our second purchase - same procedure both times and both through ********. It works for me!

Good luck!:earsgirl:

Baybreeze Disney,

How come part of your post is X'd out?

Thanks for all of the replies. Honestly, I got a little scared when she told me they sent a personal check. I started to think something was wrong.

Hi-
I sent a personal check for our resale. They verified funds, put them in "holding" and we didn't have any problems (except that our deed was in our hands and our points weren't in our DVC account-but that wasn't because of the check. . . :)

Deposit person check, the final check was a certified one. We were told it HAD to be certified!

FloridaFam...I don't know why it was "blocked out"...it is supposed to say Maggy/Shontel...I edited it twice, looked o'kay on my screen but changed back to the xxxx format...

I can't remember if our check was certified or not. I don't think it was. I think they put it in a holding acct until closing, which occurred well after the check had time to clear.

I'm also interest in why the name of a broker was ******ed out.

I guess they are blocking out her name now. I wonder why. Maybe it's because she is not a sponsor of this board.

We used the same person and couldn't be happier.

Should I be worried that they sent a personal check?

I sent a personal check, too. I know it said certified, but I work till 6, and everything in my small town closes at 4:30, so I had no choice. I figured that they would call if that wasn't OK, and the resale went thru without a problem, so it must have been OK even though they specified "Certified". I knew the check was good, so I wasn't worried.

I was instructed to send a bank cashiers check, or to wire the money.
I almost wired, due my understanding that a cashiers check was like cash, and if lost, could not be replaced.

It really does cost a lot to insure a letter for $14,000. UPS will accommodate such a request. (USPS will not).

However, after I was assured (by the bank teller), that if lost in the mail, the money really could be replaced (as long as it really was not cashed and I had the receipt), I decided to avoid the extra cost of wiring and send the cashiers check (not insured).
I had to mail the documents anyway.

Our title office specified a cashier's check and provided a Fed-Ex envelope to return everything in.

Personal check for the deposit and Money Order or Cashier's check for the closing is the standard.

My recollection is that we used a personal check for the depoist and a cashier check for the balance. Personal checks need to clear first, but that really only takes a few hours (although banks like to tell everyone it takes days).

I don't think the sale is going bad. Maybe the people didn't understand the instructions, at least I hope that's the case. You were so happy when the contract passed ROFR. Keep us informed.
