Did you see the temporary closures starting Jan 10, 2016?

All I can say is that I'm so excited! If you don't want to go, then stay home. There will be less crowding for those of us that will always love Disneyland. Walt himself said that Disneyland will never be complete. I'm sixty-two years old, and can't even list all the changes that I have seen. It just keeps getting better and better.

I'm very sorry that some of you are so unhappy...

I am excited too. We are going next fall sometime and while we only get to DL every 3-4 years (vs WDW 2 times a year). I am perfectly fine with the closures since the addition will be great and there will always be construction.

First world problems, yes I know. Just disappointed because we're going Sept 2016 with friends & fam that have never been and probably won't go again so this is a pretty big deal. If a couple of rides were down, no biggie but this is different. Will we still have fun? Yes. No doubt. I just hope ROA & the RR are restored to their former glory for our Fall 2018 trip :)

I'm looking at it glass half full. The things they are closing will only have a small impact on my family's trip. I'll miss the visual aspect of RoA but it'll be ok. I'm hoping that with these closures there won't be as many other rides down on off season but that remains to be seen. The alternative is not going g to disneyland for the next 2-3 years which doesn't sound fun!

space mtn is going down right after halloween for the hyperspace mtn. overlay that will open on Nov. 16th for seasons of the force. The HM overlay and iasw overlay will be there through January
I'm so pumped we accidentally timed it all right for our short trip. We get there the day Christmas stuff starts and we get to be there the first two days of seasons of the force and before everything shuts down! Well done me

I live on the other side of the world, (Europe) and I only get to visit Disneyland once a year. Am I disappointed in some closures, yes, I use the Disney Railroad alot, I loved Fantasmic and I love the Mark Twain, but will it ruin my June 2016 trip that they are closed.. NO.. This year Peter Pan was closed when I was there.

Its the same in Disneyland Paris at the moment, 2016 will be a big year for refurbs and closures. I say the same to Disneyland California people as I have said on a European forum. As regular visitors we want new things and the parks to be well maintained and in good condition. The parks are open 365 days in the year, so to do the upgrades they have to do it when the parks are open. Suck it up, Disney is still Disney, the suspension of reality is still there and after a few months wait we get some new things added to the park

regular visitors vs veteran visitors vs DNA visitors, yes, Disneyland part of your inner being DNA ( rumpled alphabet ticket books, Walt Disney wonderful world TV on Sunday nights, black and white TV, one Disney move a year, Disney school assemblies and the ever popular School bus lunch box. As a DNA visitor, no matter how you slice it, the railroad is deal breaker!!!

As I mentioned in another thread, the closures are disappointing for me as an international visitor.

I'd already had a short list of "dream" experiences for my trip in May 2016 and riding in Lily Belle or the tender seat on the railroad and captaining the river boat were on that list. After seeing so many positive reviews of Fantasmic, it will also be a shame to miss that show.

But, the tickets are all booked, so there isn't much that can be done. On the positive side, the amount of works may keep other visitors away so that the park is less crowded. And if it isn't possible to do the railroad, river attractions, treehouse, etc then it means that I will have more time to ride (or re-ride) other attractions.

And one day, in the far future when I can once again afford a trip to the US, I'm sure that I will experience and enjoy not only the attractions I miss on this trip, but also the Star Wars and other new attractions that will result from the closures.

Agent 86 I love your positive out look.
This si what i was talking about when I was talking about stress. You are choosing not to be stressed and upset over the closures to the point of being sick. Instead you have chosen to look at it with a few positives. Don't forget after Star wars land Marvel is next so plan for that too in the next 5 years?
Any ways i just had to say that about the stress. I am trying really hard not to be stressed about our trip money wise or crowd wise. I am also preparing my self that wind may cancel fireworks again and this time I do not want to be so upset about that.

I always visit in January and February and there are always closures. Fantasmic never runs then and I have only seen it, because my husband took me for my 50th in September. Kinda sucks that ROA will be boarded up.... been there.... seen that, but in spite of everything... we never fail to have a fabulous time. BTMMR has never been open when we've been there but it has never ruined a trip. Please don't let a few closures ruin your trip. If it is booked and paid for, just focus on all the great stuff that will be open. It will still be magical!

The Railroad will be closed too! Glad we are going this October.
I would expect the RR to be closed for several years due to Star Wars land being built. Could be why the river boats are closed too. What I don't understand why it has to impact Fantasmic!, unless they have to drain the river.

I don't have any feelings towards Star Wars Land either way, I could take it or leave it. I am very bummed to see the Ranch area gone and even more so, the Happiest Goats on Earth :( Of course it's lame to see so many closures, but I know they are necessary for the changes. DL is more accessible to me than most people, so I feel worse for those who have made big plans that require more planning, money, travel, etc.

I do think the changes have caused me to officially decide not to renew my AP's, which are up in February. I was already considering our first WDW trip for late next year so it might be a good time to do that.

I am having issues now in that I want to go before the closures really badly now, but it's not a ton of notice. I also want to see Seasons of the Force. I don't think I can get anyone to go with me, not that I'm averse to solo, which I've done for short trips but don't prefer it. I've been wanting to see the 60th stuff as well (though I was hoping to go when HM was regular, not HMH).

Arrgh! I am so conflicted!

I just saw the projected map of where the land is suspected to be built and I am so disappointed that Toon Town is staying. Bummer.. was hoping that would go away and be something else. The land is in serious need to repair - so either retheme the land or give it some love.

What I don't understand why it has to impact Fantasmic!, unless they have to drain the river.
The OC Register Article says "The river will be partially drained and diverted to the Orange County Water District’s Groundwater Replenishment system, where it will be treated and stored, a Disneyland spokesman said. When the time comes to refill the rivers, Disney will replenish from the same system." So this would fit with F! also having to be dark until the river is refilled.

Seems many people think there will be less crowds. As an annual passholder I know the crowd numbers will be less, however the smaller crowd will be using less attractions, so more crowds elsewhere, especially the corridors to get around will be packed. Just think with no Fantasmic on a busy day, how many people will be trying to watch the fireworks? Uggg.
Add all those people who would be in those areas and in the queues or the attractions themselves to the rest of the park, add to it the other refurbishments that will be going on throughout the year too. Insane crowded areas will be the result.
Personally I am sad to know that there will be no sounds of a steam whistle in the park for more than a year. I love hearing it from the outside on my way in. I wonder if they've ever had both the ships and railroad closed for this long before?
I bet the days leading up to the closure will have packed trains. The route may change also for the first time, so people will rush to ride one last time.

I am also going to be there when seasons of the force starts so I will get to enjoy those changes to. I have a question when does the halloween overlay on the mansion and SM go down? I get there on November 13th.

Since you said you'd be there during the Seasons of the Force, I'd expect you'll get to ride Hyper Space Mountain, though it will likely be closed on the day you get there. Should open on the 16th at the latest. Haunted Mansion is actually a Christmas overlay, so it stays open until January. I would think that Small World Christmas should also be open during your trip.

I would expect the RR to be closed for several years due to Star Wars land being built. Could be why the river boats are closed too. What I don't understand why it has to impact Fantasmic!, unless they have to drain the river.

They are draining the river and holding the water in a reservoir. It's probably a good thing if they wall it off, as I'm sure the river looks pretty gross without water in it. I hope they use this time to do a little TLC on the attractions that are closed too.
