Did you see Michael Bolton last night? Spoiler

He didn't like Bruno's opinion of his jive and felt it was insulting and inappropriate. Does this guy know he was in a dance competition? Did he think he danced better than those who got to stay? He may "sing" but he is certainly no entertainer. I have never seen anyone with such a flat affect and out of touch with what he can and cannot do. (Well I have but to mention his name would be political, ;) )

Dawn,
I never felt that Michael felt that he could dance well.
While I have not been really following every single word in this saga, it is clear that he knew, talent-wise, that he was going home.
Just like every other personality who has signed up just for the fun and exposure... and who went home round one or two....

I have to respectfully disagree with your thoughts.

Personally I agree with him..
Even with lesser talented people have been on the show (remember the chair-dance :rotfl2:) The judges have given negative reviews, but with a good bit of respect and even humor.

I agree with Michael that Bruno's words were just almost angry and cutting and inappropriate and disrespectful. I see NO doubt in that.

However, folks, this is reality TV!!!!!
If anybody doesn't see that Tony is being cast and scripted here, and that this drama is not all preconceived by ABC... w-a-k-e...upppppp!!!!!

It's all about the ratings.

I just hate that ABC thinks that they need to stoop to this 'Simon Cowell' level with dancing with the stars.... :sad2:

While Simon is known for his horrendously negative and berating reviews...
Bruno has not, he has been known for his flair and 'spicyness'.

Two very different things.

To see that ABC seems to think that they need to direct BRUNO to to be a complete disrespectful jerk... sucks....

I agree that Michael Bolton was not a good dancer. I do think Bruno was unfair. How many other bad dancers have been treated the way Michael was by Bruno? Even Len was shocked.

I don't watch the show, but I read a story about this episode (Yahoo, maybe?) and one of the commenters said that while Bolton was horrible, there have been other dancers who were equally horrible, if not more so, who were not treated as brutally as Bolton was. If that's true, it was inappropriate.

EXACTLY!!!!!! (read my post that just came in while you were typing)

Based on the history of DWTS, nobody, NOBODY, has ever signed on for this gig believing that they would be BERATED like that.

Out of curiosity, did the Hoff have a hissy fit?

No, but he also was not publicly berated like that....

There was no 'hissy-fit' just because Michael was cut.
Michael has NEVER (to my knowledge) complained about going home.

There was, however, IMHO, a negative and reasonable reaction to Bruno's inappropriate words and tone.

His dance instructor deserves some of the blame. When she had him coming out of a dog house at the beginning and using a dog bone, I cringed. Nothing good could come from that. I think Bruno could have been critical in a less dehumanizing way, and Bolton should have just been gracious about losing.

Note: Even Len, the most 'critical' of the judges, also immediately has come out with his views that Bruno's words and tone were not appropriate.

ABC, we watch DWTS for the fun of it... NOT for seeing folks publicly berated.

Take note.

That dog house bit was BAAADDD! That said, if Bolton had taken the high road, thanked Bruno for the suggestions, and left graciously, he would be viewed in a much different light. I almost wonder if he would have survived another week.
He is almost robotic in his appearance.

He was hardly berated. I didn't see Bruno comments as that bad, I have seen the judges be much much tough on people. He knew how how hard the judges can be if he ever watched this show before

Not sure I completely buy that. Ratings rule and the reality show that consistently got high ratings was American Idol. Numero uno reason, Simon Cowell.

Donald trumps show the apprentice was at it's best when Amorosa was on.

We like our Villans and we like them for their "villany" not to be polite.

I can't help but wonder if Bruno's comment was sparked because he felt that Bolton didn't put the necessary time or effort into developing his performance.
Bolton's performance was pretty bad.

Agreed. I have also spoken about this topic with MANY friends and coworkers and ALL agree that Michael Bolton acted like a jerk. Not a single one thought bruno did anything wrong. Isn't it funny how things can seem so completely lopsided sometimes on the DIS, leading people to think that EVERYONE must feel the same way about something, until you talk to other folks in your life, and find out you're not all alone and that Many if not the majority, agree with you. LOL!

I was shocked to her Bruno be so nasty in his delivery. The first thing I said to my dd was...Bruno must not like Michael Bolton as a person. I have NEVER heard Bruno talk like that...

I've missed most seasons, occasionally watched specific dancers, and this is the first season I've watched each episode and mostly each dancer, so I don't completely know the judges' histories. But don't they say repeatedly (I think Len especially) that they hate the little "acting" routines, with props? And how low does one have to go to come out of a doghouse for a bone?? That alone was insulting. If I were Bolton I'd have more of an issue with the humiliation of that than anything Bruno said. Maybe it was the combination of the embarrassing performance and biting remarks.

He is robotic. Did he ever smile once during the competition? He's the pissiest looking contestant. I don't know much about him (not a fan), but if I were him, I'd want to quietly walk into the sunset and not draw any more attention to myself and DWTS...show some respect for myself, even if someone else (Bruno) didn't.

EXACTLY! (and I've watched many seasons of DWTS)
First thing that came into my head, after this debacle, and some of Bruno's other comments, is what I posted earlier "What??? is ABC trying to script Bruno as the nasty bad-guy now??? WTH????"

Sadly, this is, very obviously, what is going on here.

Yes, it is all for ratings,
Yes, we love our villians.
I just don't believe that this show (as opposed to something like IDOL, where the folks really are there based on the fact that they think they have talent) is the place for this kind of crap.

As has been mentioned, there have been MANY untalented noteables on this show.
Never this kind of public berating.
Whether Bolton was bad or not, has no bearing on this, at all.

I would hope that ABC re-thinks this. But, they will not.
Sadly, they have already cleared it with Bruno that he will never apologize, and have issued their statement.

I used to like ABC as compared to the other trashy networks...

Sad.... :sad2:

To continue my thoughts about ABC....

They haven't had a winning show in, like, forever.
The Bachelor has degenerated into 'Bachelor Pad' (And, Brad as the new bachelor... OMG)
Now they are messing with DWTS - one of their biggest, and surprise, hits.

I have found these changes and the degeneration at ABC over the past few years to be very noteable indeed.

ABC told Bruno to say that? And it's "obvious"? :confused3 Wow. Maybe...just maybe...Bruno said that all by himself. Just because he's never said anything quite that biting before, doesn't mean it's not in him, for whatever reason, however he viewed the "dance" (if we can call it that). I'm sure we could analyze to death what "celebrity" danced better or worse than another, but didn't get (in everyone's opinion) the appropriately better or worse praise or criticism.

Maybe there were issues going on behind the scenes that we weren't privy to.
1. Perhaps Bolton was hard to get along with?
2. Perhaps he had an inflated view of himself?
3. Perhaps he didn't want to put the time into practice that was required?

These are things that the producers and the judges would have been aware of that may have colored their responses and perceptions.

I actually read something a couple of weeks ago stating that Bolton was EXTREMELY difficult behind the scenes and the biggest "Diva" they have ever had on the show.

Here's a piece from one article......

Sources are reporting that Dancing with the Stars castmembers Bristol Palin and Michael Bolton are wreaking havoc on the set of the reality competition with their diva demands!

Insiders claim that Bolton "has the biggest ego" and "makes the most demands," while Palin keeps having "some major run-ins with the wardrobe designers."

Interesting info!

If there is any truth to it, that would be a big factor.

PS: Yes, I still stand by my comments re: ABC.
This has not been the first time in just two short weeks that Bruno's comments had raised my eyebrows.
I do think the writing is on the wall.

As Bruno made that comment, the cynical part of me wondered if ABC or the show's producer put him up to it in order to get a "controversy" which might boost their ratings even more.
