Did you see Harry Potter? What did you think? SPOILERS inside!!

Ron found out that Voldemort's name was taboo after he deserted Harry and Hermione. They realize that was how they were found at the diner.

But none of that is mentioned in the movie.

yes..but the reason they weren't found sooner once they escaped the cafe is because Ron got ticked off at Harry for always saying "Voldemort" and insisted he stop (without realizing that was the way they'd been located). That was the reason Harry began using "you know who" on their journey. It just seemed odd that Harry, who has been so defiant about using Voldemort's name, suddenly starts NOT using it.

In the book, did they use polyjuice potion on Harry to make him look like some ranodm red-headed Weasley cousin?

Well, hello :D

LOVED the movie. I felt it was too short..
I cried. A lot.

I got freaked out when they were at Bathilda's house and she would appear out of nowhere. I screamed lol. I also screamed when Nagini popped out

LOL, I didn't scream, but it definitely freaked me out too! :scared1: I actually just got to that part in the book last night and it's even creepier when you read it because the movie doesn't portray that scene exactly the same. :scared1:

And Harry gives into doing this (not using his name) after Ron is so weakened from his splinching ... as Hermione gives him a warning glance. :)

That's another thing...I know when my dad sees this film he's going to say "what the heck is splinching" as he hasn't read the books and they don't explain it at all. Yeah, they can't explain everything...put this in the notes on "what to explain to Dad"

IKWYM... I was making a mental list for DH. There were a couple of things that will definitely need further explaination... I luckily got my test run from my friend who has only ever seen the films. Her DH and DS-D have read the books.

ETA - there was one major thing that I knew I needed to explain ahead of time (without spoiling it) but if I didn't, there would be too many questions. I was going to give you an example, but I forgot what it was. But it evidently made sense as DH understood it...

...I almost didn't recognize Neville - he looks so different from that little boy in the first movie! ...

It is amazing how different Neville looks now. I mean, I know it's been years but that boy has surely changed for the better!...

I think it plays in well, though, since his character in the books really grows and changes so much inside.

As for the movie in general, of course I might have done a few things differently, but overall I was happy.

I liked how the the Three Bothers scene was done, and I thought listing the names on the radio as they went from campsite to campsite was really effective. The actors who played the trio on Polyjuice potion did a great job, and the volunteers transformation into the seven Harrys was really funny.

I kind of missed all the time they spent at Grimmauld place, with Kreacher becoming nicer, as well as the memorial in Godric's Hollow. And I agree that there should have been an explanation of Harry using "You Know Who" all of a sudden - but I'm guessing there was, and it was a last minute cut due to run-time.

I finally saw it today--I loved it! I was glad they didn't use polyjuice when they went to Godric's Hollow--this way, Dan Radcliffe & Emma Watson got to do the scene. I cried when Dobby died, but I knew I was going to.

Finally got to see it today with DH (I've read to the books multiple times but DH has only seen the movies). I told DH at the beginning if he had any questions to try to remember them and I would try to answer them after the movie, we ended up talking for almost an hour! It's gonna be so hard to wait for part #2!

I did notice how it differed from the book, but overall I was very happy with it. I loved the 3 Brothers sequence, very Tim Burton-esq.

I knew going in that I might need some tissues but dang! As soon as I saw that flash of green headed towards Hedwig I lost it, bawling my eyes out....thank goodness for George's "saint like" joke soon after. Too bad there wasn't any comedic relief later when Dobby dies, cause as soon as I saw Dobby on the beach hunched over I lost it again and cried well into the credits. Part 2 is going to be even worse with all the other deaths to come :guilty:

I saw it for the second time today as DH and DS15 hadn't seen it yet so DS11 and I decided to accompany them.
I think I might have liked it even better the second time. I was able to pick up on some things I had missed the first time and enjoyed the more subtle details and the cinematography etc... since I already knew what was coming. Still cried, though.

Went back and saw it again Saturday night.

They did a good job from a non-book reader's POV. I only had to explain splinching and Kreacher's change in attitude. Not bad for a 2 1/2 hour movie! :rotfl2:

I reread the book the other night and realized that the movie, part 1, covers fully 3/4 of the of the book! Which means the entire 2 1/2 hours of the second movie should be pretty well devoted to first Gringotts and then the battle of Hogwarts...two of the most exciting things ever written!

Yay!

Actually, while I wasn't upset with the few diversions they took from the book, I was sorry that they didn't address Kreacher's change of attitude. Not sure why they didn't and it means that one of my favorite scenes from the second half of the book will be left out (or spoiled if they do include it without have set it up in this movie).

We saw it Saturday night in a what is usually a busy multiplex. I think anyone that went to the movies was with us, because there was no line for tickets like there usually is and when we got out, the lobby area wasn't bustling as usual on a Saturday night. Our showing, which was a prime hour showing, was in one of the smaller theaters too. I wonder if everybody was shopped out from Black Friday.

The few other diversions I noticed was how Hedgwig died, Ron' not mentioning the trace on Voldemort's name and how they got discovered by the snatchers. I didn't notice anything major that was left out and those minor changes didn't really detract from the story for me. I was glad I re-read the book on Thursday and Friday before going to see it, to refresh my memory. It really helped watching the movie (although it lessened the impact of the sad scenes, since I was more prepared).

I think for the sake of the movie timeline, putting in Kreacher's extended story and attitude change would have been irrelevant. It was already established that house elves MUST obey their masters... period. What I didn't like was that there was no explanation that Harry inherited everything that belonged to Sirius, includind Kreacher.

One of my "complaints" a few pages back!
