Did you second guess your decision to purchase?

I have yet to have any experience like that one you've described. Maybe my parents did and I was kept in the dark. And, again, I understand that I'm a new owner and there will be plenty of time for unhappy moments. I'm by no means defending DVC, nor am I forgiving them for being less than what they were and even could be.

FWIW, 10 years but it at 2001. I think that's fair. :teeth:
Don't get me wrong, DVC is not bad but they leave so much on the table that really only costs effort and planning and not much in dollars.

Nope, never regretted for a moment. Wanted to buy in 1994 when we toured during our first trip but waited until 1997 due to finances. That actually worked out great for us, as we bought BWV when it was new, and I t remains our favorite DVC location despite stays at others over the years. We've had many wonderful stays with family and friends not to mention gifting our DD and new SIL with a week for their honeymoon.

No second guess. I quickly realized that DVC was at the top of the food chain in the timeshare world. Also, anytime you own a timeshare and can rent your weeks at double maint fees, you have a quality timeshare.

We debated for YEARS about purchasing DVC - wish we had done it earlier when it was cheaper - especially as we've gone every year once or twice, staying deluxe most times. We just bought in resale - looking forward to our first stay as members.

I see 20 posts a months stating this for every 1 person with a regret.

DIS DVC owners are pretty much pro DVC or they wouldn't own any longer and they wouldn't be posting in the DIS DVC section. Also DIS people are a very, very small group of DVC people when you count the total number of DVC members. A look at the number of resales each year tells me that people are selling for some reason.

Owning a DVC interest is nothing more than prepaying for a hotel room. You may not always get the dates or resort/room size or category that you want, you don't have a say in the changes that occur within the membership or resort and the dues increase each year and again you have no say in how the money is spent.

If that is acceptable to you and you need a "deluxe" room at Disney every couple of years, than owning a DVC interest can make sense.
