Did you play with a parachute in school?

We had them when I was in school and the school that I teach at does too. They play a game called POPCORN where they have to try to get all the balls off the parachute by lifting it up and down. It does teach the kids about teamwork I guess.

Played with the chute when I was in grade school. Also both ropes and I also remember the web rope. Little squares together in a big rectangle that you climbed to the top and back down. What about the peg board? Two big pegs you held in your hands and tried to climb a board hanging on the wall that had little holes in in the same diameter as the pegs in you hands. That was so hard.

Also, I substituted at my kids school this past fall and during PE they played with a parachute. About two months ago I subbed for the PE teacher and she had me play Battleship with them. The "lifeboats" were those little scooter things.

We had one in all three elementary schools I attended. My favorite game was "shark" where everyone stuck their legs under the parachute and rippled it like the ocean while someone crawled around underneath (your really could not follow where the "shark" was). The shark had to grab an ankle and that usually ended up with screaming and pretending to be attacked and pulled under the 'chute. Then the shark would crawl out and take the place of the person who became the new shark.

And it was always fun to whip it up and pull it down real fast and tuck it around your heads and count until the center hit the floor.

We also had the wheel carts, but my mom said they had those when she was in elementary school (60's-70's). And a huge ball, that had to be five feet tall, we played "crab soccer" with.

Yes, we played with a parachute, and so do my kids, in elementary school now.

So fun!

I loved parachute days in PE!!! I was a little claustraphobic at first, but after my first taste of the nylon, I was in love!:p

Parachute day was my favorite day! That brought back fun memories!:3dglasses

I teach music, and we do parachute in my classroom! :woohoo:

I've been teaching students about form in music, so with the younger students we would do different movements with diff. sections of the songs. Same thing with the older kids, just a bit more specific (8 beats up, 8 beats down, 8 beats L, 8 beats R, etc.) They LOVE it!!! We did it with the song Sugar Shack during Halloween! :rotfl:

Yes! I was in elementary school in the late '80s and I remember playing with a giant rainbow parachute very well. We used to play a game called cat and mouse in which one person runs on top of the parachute trying to catch the person underneath while everyone else is making waves with it.

We never played with one, that fun stuff came after my time!

But when the kids were in grade school, I repaired the school's paracuhtes every summer. Used to set up my sewing machine out in my yard. :goodvibes

Yup. I played parachute too and LOVED it. The school that I teach at still gets out the parachute every once in a while. I've seen them.

Here on the east coast of Canada (New Brunswick) we had them too...DH said they had one in their school out in Manitoba so it looks like they are very widespread.

I'm in south GA and we had one here in the 70's. That was sooo much fun!! I loved PE when we got to play with the parachute and play kick ball! I always got out, but it was still too much fun!

I remember playing parachute too! We had great games in gym in both elementary school and middle school.
