We were so anxious to start our new life together, we left right away for the hotel when the recepetion was over. The last thing on my mind was to open gifts on my wedding night. ;) Then we left early for our honeymoon the next morning. It was a real treat to come back to the gifts and cards a week later.
Did you leave right away? Or did you stick around for a party or open your gifts?

We took the cards with us to the hotel we were staying at after the reception and opened them there. We married on a Saturday and didn't leave for our honeymoon till Monday so we took the cash/checks we received to my Mom's for safe keeping. We enjoyed that extra day just relaxing at the hotel. We opened our gifts after we returned from our honeymoon. It was fun to come back and open the gifts.

We went out with friends and some family members for a nightcap and to catch our limo home, so my parents took all gifts and cards home with them.

The next day, I went to pick up my car (which was at my parents) and we had lunch on their deck with them as we opened everything in the sunshine! Great memory! :goodvibes

(Then my parents fridge suddenly died, and we all headed to Lowes to buy a new one! :rotfl:)

DH and I opened our cards and one present before the trip [because we knew a gift card for a Disney restaurant was in the package LOL] All the others we left for when we returned.

Wow, I guess we're in the minority! We left our reception (to give others permission to leave), went to my parents' house, changed, and came back. We opened gifts with the family that was still there. That way we could send the checks and cash with my parents to be deposited that Monday. We did end up finding one check later...DH's uncle and his new wife bought us some neat stuff-shirts with the local big town on them, bath stuff, and a thing of bath confetti. I just took that to be "bath stuff." In the card, they wrote "your gift is in the confetti." Totally didn't get it until we were at our apartment that night and I opened the bath confetti and found a check. We left the next morning for our honeymoon.

Disclaimer - NYC metro area - I left my dad a deposit slip, and he deposited all of the checks into our checking acount while we were gone, and wrote the amount in the cards. We had about 5 actual gifts to open (DH has family in NW MA).

We had a brunch at my parent's house the next morning, before our flight to Disneyland, and we opened the gifts then. Family and the wedding party was there. DH's cousin got married last summer, and they didn't have a special wedding night, they just went back to their condo. Family brought the gifts over, and before they went to bed, they decided to open "just one." They had so much fun, they opened them all! I have to say, opening the wedding gifts was better than Christmas; it never seemed to end. :rotfl:

we got married on a Saturday and opened our gifts Sunday afternoon with family and friends at my parent's house. My mom deposited all of our checks and cash while we were honeymooning in Disney World! (we left on a red eye on the Sunday night). It was fun to open all those gifts!:bride:

As I recall (and it's been a looong time now), the gifts were largely delivered to my house before the wedding, and we opened them then. The few that were brought to the wedding were taken home by somebody in my family, and we opened them after our honeymoon.

We had a very small wedding. We took the envelopes from the reception and opened them at the hotel that night. That one night was the extent of our honeymoon (we were young and poor), so the next morning we went to my inlaws' house and opened the rest of the gifts before we headed to our apartment (about 2 hours away).

It would be odd, in my area, to open gifts the day of the wedding. Around here, traditionally, the bridal party and family would load them into someone's car after everyone left and deliver them back to the couple's home or someplace safe until they returned from their honeymoon.

We had sooooooo much fun opening our presents when we returned from our honeymoon. Just the two of us in our new place.

When my daughter was married on a Saturday night, we got together with close relatives and wedding party the next morning to open gifts before they left on their honeymoon.

When I was married, I had gift carriers taked the gifts at the church from the guests. These were taken to a back room where they were opened, the gift written on the card, money taken out of cards and kept secure; after the wedding we went back to see all our gifts and so did all the guests. (receptions then were cake/punch/mints/sandwiches in the church hall). Then it was like opening them up all over when we got back from our honeymoon and we had time to really look at them. That was what was done in my area when we married.

We got married on a Friday night. We had a brunch the next morning at my mom's house and opened the gifts/cards then. We left for our honeymoon after that. We put the money in the bank on the way out of town and picked up the gifts when we got back. That is pretty typical for our area.

We opened all of ours the day following the wedding. All gifts and cards were taken to my parents house and on Sunday, we had the entire wedding party over to chill out, eat and visit while we open gifts.

Us, too. All of our gifts were delivered prior to our wedding. A few of our guests brought cards to the reception which they handed to us while in the receiving line.

We opened ours after our honeymoon, so it was a week later.

Us as well, we also had a pile of cards that we opened post honeymoon

Our honeymoon was 2 weeks after our wedding, so we opened everything pretty much the next day.

We opened our gifts a few days after our wedding. My DH's family flew in for the weekend, we got married on a Friday, took the family and the wedding party white water rafting on Saturday, took his family horseback riding on Sunday, and then they flew home on Monday and we went to my parents house to open all the gifts and eat the leftover food!
