In retrospect, sure. At the time, my sister and I always complained about having to share. We got to redecorate ONCE, when we were in 5th and 7th grade. Our choices grew old. (70's era blue shag carpet, chartreuse green/blue mod floral bedspreads and curtains, blue walls, antique white furniture.) Mom wouldn't let us change it, but promptly redecorated in neutrals when we moved out.
I only had two kids and they had their own rooms. Their rooms were white with plain colored curtains and bedspreads and a basic dresser, etc., then every year or so I let them pick out a few new posters on allposters.com. and maybe a new throw blanket or pillow. I felt like that was an inexpensive way for them to get a new look more frequently and keep it age appropriate without spending much money.
