Did you know anyone famous before they were famous?

I went ot college with Reece Davis of ESPN. Unless you are a sports nut you probably wouldn't know who he was. I was very surprise years ago to see him one Saturday morning on TV.

I was friends with Carl Lewis (Olympian--won a bunch of gold medals in long jump/track) in Junior High and High School. He was a great guy from a wonderful family.

I attended High School with Jeff Daniels. Saw him in his very first "production" a home video his dad took of him playing Batman for Junior High ;) LOL

Followed his career rise from his first High School play!

I went to the same HS as PJ Carlesimo, former PA Gov. Bob Casey and current PA Auditor General Bob Casey, Jr.

I knew Mark Spindler (Detroit Lions) through his brother, George, with whom I went to grade school.

One of my friend's brothers is in a Hooters video. He's one of the guys in the "And We Danced" video that is trying to break into the car's trunk at the drive in to let his friend out.

I live vicariously through others ;)

My babystitter is Kevin Smith's cousin. :)

My best friend went out with one of the members of the Goo Goo Dolls in high school. Back in the days when he was a simple field keg party kind of guy.;)

My cousin is super good friends with, and grew up with Robbie Little, a comedian, who isn't quite yet BIG, but making his way up. He currently does spots on "The Best Damn Sports Show Period" He's good too.

A while back I was in California with my uncle when I heard this band playing at this one club... They were unknowns so I got to hang out with them and spent a few hours chillin with them... Turns out that was the band "A.F.I." or A Fire Inside... Never really knew they'd make it THIS big, b/c they were talking about disbanding all the time.

Another person I knew was John Goodman. When I lived in Louisiana, he had bought a house about 5 miles from where I lived. I went over one day & actually knocked & we got to hang out & stuff. it was fun!

If you consider a football player famous, then I would say - Heath Shuler. He is a super nice guy from my hometown.

Went to school with actor/comedian Jay Mohr. (Actually, I remember the days when he was Jay Jay). I was friends with his older sisters Virginia and Julie (who played flute in the HS band) and he was a year older than my kid brother. I think I saw one of his first performances when he was one of the 3 Wise Men at our church one Christmas (my brother was another one -- they all wore Burger King Crowns covered in tin foil). Jay used to come home for Christmas, but his family has since moved. :( I am so glad that things have turned out well for him, as he is a really nice guy (although my mother was appalled that such a nice kid would star in a tv series where they said "F..." every 5 minutes).

I love reading about everyone else's "encounters"

FOJMO, I attended college in Allentown and was in a math class with Lara Jo Miller (she was already a "name" though). Hated her because she aced EVERYTHING! ;) Her mom ran a talent agency, didn't she? At the same time, one of the locals appeared in several theatre productions that I was involved in. I'm not sure what she's doing now, but she did appear in the movie She Devil with Roseanne Barr & Meryl Streep. She was Roseanne's daughter. She went by the name of Elizabeth Peters in the movie, but that wasn't her real name. She was a really nice girl.

Briar Rose that's funny, I just saw Ralph Macchio at a Ducks game last week. I had seen him a couple of times before, when he lived in East Islip.

I'd heard he'd come "home" to the Island to live.

my sister tells me Ralph was a big fan of the Islanders, used to have the hockey games on t.v. backstage during the school plays.

and then of course there's Billy Joel. never met him, but my high school English teacher went to high school with him. and my ex husband's older sister used to hang out at a candy store where he would hang occasiionally, but although she knew who he was she really didn't know him.

I think my ex husband's best friend went ot high school with one of the Baldwins. they grew up in Massapequa.

Not someone famous, but the wife of someone famous...

Nascar driver Todd Bodine's wife, Lynn, was one of my babysitter's when I was little (like 5 or 6). She and her family lived next door to us, and her mother was also my bus driver. Her parents remained neighbors with my parents until a few years ago, when they moved to live near Todd & Lynn.

Lots of famous people grew up in the same general area as I did, but I didn't know any of them.

However, my former co-worker went to her prom with Sylvester Stallone. This was in his 98 lb. weakling days........ :teeth:

Another friend went to her prom with John Hinckley, the guy who shot President Reagan. She said he was very shy but very much a gentleman at that time. After the incident with President Reagan, she had nightmares for years that she was at her prom and he was trying to kill her!

My brother acted and was friends with Joe Lane the famous Broadway actor in HS in good old Jersey City, NJ. (yes he changed his name to Nathan)

I went to HS with a guy named Tony Longo…he was a big Italian looking guy. He had parts in many tv shows and films. He always played the “big Italian looking guy”. He was the catcher in Disney’s Angels in the Out Field.

When I was in college I had to hire bands to play at our coffeehouse every other Friday. I hired a little known band called "The Cars". The lead singer, Rick Ocasek, asked me to go into Boston with him later that night to check out another band. Silly me, I said no, I already had a date

Funny you should mention Rick Ocasek. I work very closely with one of his 2nd cousins, Joe Otcasek. Some branches of the Otcasek family (including Rick's) decided to drop the "t" in their last name.

I also worked with the 2nd cousin of Don (American Pie) McLean.

According to DW Sue, her cousin once dated Eric Clapton.

The most famous person that I know is Dan Murphy. :teeth:

TC, I think you win.;) It must be awesome to know Dan Murphy personally.

Jason Miller used to frequent (well he slept on the bar.. I mean was passed out on the bar... I mean the bar was holding him up...) a bar we hung out in during college. Remember him? He was the priest in the Excorcist.

His son, Jason Patric used to be in town alot, too, but it always seemed that he would go to a different place than the one I was at. Alot of my friends got to meet him. He starred in The Lostboys and in Speed 2.

I went to high school and graduated the same year as Kathleen Nail. While we weren't what you'd call good friends, we had homeroom together and worked on projects together.

She is now known as Kate Capshaw, actress and wife of Steven Spielberg.
