Did you expose your children to the music you grew up with? My teenagers know and appreciate 70's and 80's as much as I do and I love it!! So my DD was babysitting tonight and the kids she was with were messing with the her computer. They hit a button that turned on her music and Journey came on . She said they fell in love with "Don't stop believing..." She told them it was time to go to bed and they asked her to turn the song on again while they got their pj's on. My dad played Frank Sinatra all the time when I was a kid and now my 16 year old daughter loves him. My 17 year old loves Kansas. Do your kids enjoy your era of music?

Yes! They get bombarded with it because to get anywhere we have to drive.

Like all Aussie kids they're brainwashed from birth to appreciate Cold Chisel and Jimmy Barnes ;)

No kids of my own, but I've turned on stepdaughters to some of my favorite music. Mainly from the car radio (regular or satellite).

I play lots of different music styles and eras of music in our house. I have a very eclectic taste of music and my kids seem to as well.

I will admit that I was thrilled when my eldest picked Journey's " Open Arms" to learn as her music festival piano solo 2 years ago. I have also definately also exposed them to Musical theatre which they both seem to enjoy.

Of course I've force Sinatra on them. Lol. They have discovered some things on their own - and then Guardians of the Galaxy happened. My kids started listening to my old cassettes!

Yes and no.
The kids love a lot of the more appropriate music we listen to (RHCP, Foo Fighters, Smashing Pumpkins etc) DD7 has been learning drums for a year and is obsessed with The Offspring (carefully chosen playlist) but I wouldn't play a lot of our other stuff with them in the car (Rage against the machine, Eminem, Dr Dre).

They also listen to the stuff my parents passed on CCR, Beach Boys, Elvis etc

Through Scooby Doo they have become obsessed with Kiss particularly DD2 who asked for her face to be painted as Star child last time we were at a fair.

Oh, absolutely! HUGE Beatles fan here!:) I introduced the Beatles to my kids when they were babies. They grew up with their music, movies, cartoon series. etc. My two daughters are big Beatles fans. I now have grandchildren and I'm making sure they also are familiar with the Beatles and their music.:) They are all also very familiar with the Beach Boys.

My younger daughter (26) is also a huge fan of the Who. She discovered them at the age of 8 when we took her to a local summer stock production of Tommy. It was instant love!

We can proudly say our DD7 knows the words to many Beatle's songs, which we learned from our parents. Of course, she is also introduced to more modern music as well and likes that too. I am worried for the days I lose control of what she is listening to and blasts it through the house. I can just hope and pray that she plays stuff i like, or can at least tolerate!

You bet. If you were to ask my 7-year-old who her favorite band is, she'll answer Hanson. :thumbsup2

My 6 yr old loves Fleetwood Mac. She calls it "the pretty music" Full disclosure I wasn't trying to expose her to anything specific it was just in the cd rotation in the car.

Yes. How would they ever know the joy of Tiffany and Debbie Gibson without it???

/snicker

My kids do listen to 80s and some early 90s music. They also listen to some 70s and 60s too. DS really isn't into music, but my girls always have been. DD#1's favorite 80s band is Journey; DD#2's is Def Leppard.
They hide when "Play That Funky Music" comes on...DH "dances"....he's hilarious.

Our kids grew up listening to the Grateful Dead. Our youngest ended up being the resident 'Dead Head'. Such a shame they never got to see them in person when Jerry was alive. We were planning to take our oldest to a concert right before he died. They have though seen all the others with their respected bands. Another one of my sons was majoring in sign language (deaf studies) in college and for one of their exams they had to sign a song. He chose Uncle Johns Band. LOL

Our oldest son really loves Foreigner an a few other older bands like them. Aside for a couple of newer bands, they pretty much all listen to the music we played while they were growing up. My little 2 year old grandson will stop what he's doing if he hears Bob Marley and will start dancing. :rotfl:

I play whatever music I want to play. My children play whatever music they want to play.

We've expanded each other's tastes. There's a lot of great contemporary music they've introduced me to, that I'd have never heard otherwise.

And it was incredibly fun, back in the day, when my little boy (about age 5) and his father would sing Meatloaf lines at each other. My son would stomp up to his daddy and announce, "G_____, Daddy!" And his father would say, "You know I love you, but..." And then my son would finish with, "You got a h___ of a lot to learn about ROCK and ROLL!" And then they'd both go into a ridiculous air guitar thing.

No, my kid didn't swear routinely. Just when quoting Meatloaf.

Also, when my daughter was a small colicky infant, the one band that always drowned out her screaming and got her to settle down was George Thorogood and the Destroyers. Played at volume.
