Did you ever shoplift when you were a kid/teen?

I guess this is a "rite of passage" for a lot of kids, just wondered if you did, did you get caught, what made you stop?

I fell in with a "fast" friend when I was about 16, she taught me how to steal earrings. I usually only took things when I was around her, although I definitely should have known better. Other than that, I was a good kid (for the most part.) Then one day I and five other friends piled into my mom's T-Bird to head on over to K-Mart to slip earrings into our Slurpies. I got into a really bad car accident-luckily no one was hurt-and had my license suspended for 6 months. I never stole again......:( I think God was trying to tell me something....;)

No, I never stole anything either. I was a very good girl ::yes::

One time.
I stole a mini mascara. Out of spite really. The security guard was watching us and it made me angry. So I somehow decided to steal something without a package or pricetag. I did and got by with it.
I never did it again though.

So many good people here!

Im afraid I have to say Yes I did. I really believe it came from a very unhappy home life as a teen. It made me feel like I was getting something. Its hard to explain if youve never been there.

I was with friends and was caught. It was the worst time of my life and I swore I would never do it again. And never have.

Yep I did mostly tapes and the like. Also lots of gum and chocolate bars from the variety store.

Yes. I grew out of it. Mostly stuff from cars that had open windows.

I took a pack of gum when I was approx 9 yrs old. I didn't get caught....I felt so bad about it that I went back and left the money on the counter the next day. I have never taken anything else.

Jess

Yep. Kichen, strike-anywhere wood matches from the grocery store that we used to use for our match shooters. Also peas, for our pea-shooters. And also siphoned some gas from contruction equipment as a young teen for our cars. :o

I'm not proud of it but one time only. I was in a new school and trying to fit in, but was out on the fringe. I was in grade 6 at the time. I was dared to by my one friend, a girl on welfare who had done this sort of thing before. Like I say, I was a good girl. But, I took the bait and stole a couple of C-cell batteries, goodness only knows why I chose that. It was from a drugstore.

After I got away scott-free, I realized how useless it was to shoplift. There was no thrill there and I never stole again The end.

Never...thought never crossed my mind.

Probably because the stuff I wanted was so expensive that they were chained down and bogged down with sensors, lol.

No, never. When I was about 16 I had a friend who used to like to say she was going to "liberate" something from the store. We didn't stay friends very long.

Not that I'm a goody two-shoes. My mother says that when I was about 2-years-old I took a chocolate bar from a shelf as she was paying at the corner store. She saw it in my hand when we got out on the sidewalk and brought it back inside. Thus ended my life of crime.

Are the police going to come after me? I am embarassed to admit that I did steal a few times. When I was about 12, a girlfriend and I would go to the mall and our moms would let us walk around alone and meet back at a certain time. We would always buy something somewhere and would then steal 45 records from Record Bar and slip them into our bags. It's a wonder we never got caught. That is the only thing I remember stealing. Sometimes we would even buy records there and come back in and steal one. I moved away shortly after that and never stole anything ever again.

OK, I'll admit it, I did steal as a teen. My best friend and I did it a few times until we got caught. We were in PA(on vacation with her parents who have a house there) and got caught at a store there. We were arrested, brought to the police station, photographed and fingerprinted!!!!:earseek: We were released and told it wouldn't stay on our records b/c we were minors, I think I was 14yo. Anyway, we were told we would have to pay a fine and be contacted be the court. We were never contacted until a year later stating the charges were dropped. I never told my parents and when the court papers arrived at the house they were shocked. I was actually really embaressed and never stole again. We had money but we were doing it for a rush, and we were so bored we wanted some excitment. Well, you live and learn! The crazy thing is the way my dad handled it. He said, "did you learn your lesson? Don't keep secrets! Oh and by the way, why did you give them your real info? You didn't have any identification on you!" He's nuts!! But, that's for another thread.

I stole a 2-liter bottle of diet Dr. Pepper when I was younger. It was the easiest thing to grab as I was walking out of the neighborhood deli. My cohort and I opened the bottle to drink it and it tasted terrible!

Served us right.

Never took something without paying (at least partially!!), but once when I was about 11, I was shopping with a friend in a drugstore. They had a bin of lipglosses for $0.99, but they were all the "yucky" flavors. The bin with all the good flavors was $2.99. So, we switched some tags to get them for $0.99.

Bad, bad me!! :guilty:

And I just realized I'm posting on my mom's sign-in, so y'all won't know who I am! But when she reads this, I'm in for it!! (And that was over 20 years ago!). :duck:
