I was at my day job yesterday when a co- worker from the restaurant I work at 2 evenings a week called and asked me to fill in. I said ok, but her shift was at 6 and I was working until six- so I snuck out 20 minutes early to make it on time. Ain't karma a beatch. As I rounded the first corner on my way between jobs I noticed a long streak of dirt down the road. I look at it thinking "what the heck could that be" only to look up and see what looks like a huge mound of dirt in front of me. It was too late to turn so I tried to center it thinking it might be a little bumpy but It would be ok. It was not dirt. It was a huge mound of solid concrete. So here I am- rush hour traffic, on the main road through town, marooned on a mound of concrete. I tried to manuever this way and that- no luck. Not knowing what to do (I'm creatng a big traffic problem now) I put on my hazards, pick up the phone and call 411. Me: Avon police, routine calls please. Operator: Is this a 911 emergency? Me: no- that is why I said routine calls. Operator: so you don't want me to connect you to 911? Me:No. Operator: please hold. Click. So the phone starts ringing- it rings for 10 minutes, no one picks up, my phone dies. Who knows what number she gave me. Now I'm marooned, no phone, freezing- my car was still running but I was too aggravated to sit still- and I can't call work to say I'll be late. Finally after 40 minutes someone stopped to help me and got the police to come out- thank goodness for this man. I tell the officer there is a cinder block stuck under my car- he gets on all fours, lets out a snort and says "that is a hell of a lot more than a cinder block" After some discussion and throwing around ideas, he tells me to drag the cement block under my car to the curb, but I may damage the car more. Then he tells me to drive the right side up on the curb and hope it creates enough height to loose the cement. It worked, but I never felt so stupid. Then I had to go to work and tell my boss "Sorry I'm late, but my car was marooned on a giant piece of cement on Brickyard Rd for the last 45 minutes." He just looked at me funny- I said call the Avon police if you don't believe me. He responed "fair enough" and dropped it. Really who does that?? I feel like an idiot.
