Did you ever buy anything at Sid Cahuenga's?

I was a little bummed (but totally understand) that Sid Cahuenga's got (mostly) turned into a FP+ kiosk location. As a kid in the early 90s, my parents bought several one-of-a-kind items there that we still have: A feather boa worn by Lucille Ball. An old John Barrymore script with notes. Dorothy Lamour's lipstick. A contract (with photos, framed) signed by Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz. A framed autograph of John Wayne. A framed and signed sketch of Harvey by Jimmy Stewart.

Has anyone else here ever bought anything there? I remember going as a kid and being completely gobsmacked by the items they had. This last time I went (right before the FP+ reno, in October) I was mostly just saddened that it was (like a lot of DHS) a shadow of its former self. Mostly just autographs of teeny bopper Disney Channel stars.

And I get it, don't get me wrong. After paying for a vacation at Disney, it's not like I have much leftover to spend on pricey celebrity items, so I'm sure they didn't sell much, especially if the bigger things. But there's a part of me that misses it.

When I was there in December some of the Sid Cahuenga merchandise had been relocated to the AFI gift store at the end of the Backstage Tour. It was mostly the autographed pictures but I did see a small selection of movie props.

We loved to browse around Sid's shop. If we ever bought anything there it would have been an inexpensive book or poster. On the few occasions where we've dropped some big bucks on Disney merch at WDW, it was on authentic Disney items.

The autographed items were very high priced. In the autograph collecting world "counterfeits" abound. Unless someone can verify the authenticity of a signed item (or other collectable) it's best left for someone else to take the risk. One would hope the items at Sid's were guaranteed.:confused3

I've never bought anything there, but when I went at the end of October in 2013, I didn't see too much of the teeny bopper Disney channel stars stuff at all. We saw a ton more of signed stuff from casts of The Walking Dead, pro football players like Dan Marino, and more.

But I will admit I do miss it. Since it's more of a FP+ kiosk now, there's really no reason to visit it. :(

That makes me sad--I loved going to Sid's. I bought an autographed picture of Tim Curry there that I still have (and for whoever mentioned fakes, this one did come with a COA, so I imagine they all did).

I had no idea that Sid's was converted into a FP+ kiosk, we used to walk around in there and look at all the cool items that they had to sell. I had, at times, thought about purchasing a few of the items but I never pulled the trigger. I'm sad to see it go, it was always a stop right as we were heading out of the park. We will miss it for sure.

I always loved going in there because I adore the building. As for the stuff for sale inside, it was OK stuff, same as you could get other places.

I loved Sid's and would spend ages in there looking around. I bought my daughter two of Cher's tops in there. One of which she wore in her dance competition.
I also bought a few autographed pictures.
It gradually became a shadow of its former self and that was sad.

Leaving Hollywood studios I always thought this building was where you can buy your ride/park photos. I'll definitely have to check it out at the end of the month when I go back

Loved it! I bought a stack of book covers printed for Dead Poet's Society back in the day. I loved seeing all the props in the walk through portion of the backstage studio tour, too.

Never bought anything, but LOVED walking through and looking around. Sad to hear what it is now!

I never did as the prices were a little too high for anything I ever would have liked I always did want that Great Dane that's bolted down to the floor Is it still there? Is it still bolted down :rotfl2: been trying to figure out how to get it home for decades

It's totally possible that I saw like *one* High School Musical signed poster and was so disgusted that it was the only thing that stuck in my brain.

Also....did it used to be BIGGER? It felt smaller last time....but since I hadn't been since the early 90s, when I myself was much smaller, that may have just been my kid memory being out of whack.

Looks like your Great Dane is still there, so there's still time to plot how to get it home! :)

Here's a video of what it's like currently. Apparently they are still selling a few items there. Honestly, I get why they made the changes. It's maybe less sad that it's also being used for FP+ (at least it gets more foot traffic) than it was shortly before the change. I mean, DHS just changed overall - no more Star of the Day, no more handprints, no more working studio or Feature Animation - and Sid's just changed with it. :(

That said, I have high hopes for what Disney is going to do with DHS in the future.

I've bought a few posters.

We always enjoyed browsing in the shop and it fit the park's theme so nicely. I was sorry to see it go.

Hey thanks for the video link :thumbsup2 It's been about a year since I've been there I may have to go back soon and pat him on the head I get why they put the FP+ there so close to the entrance I too have high hopes for the future of DHS

we have some one sheets from there. I always liked going there. At least they didn't make it a starbucks.

My husband will be sooooo bummed! Every trip he would have to have his "Sid" time. Loved to browse through all the great movie items. We bought a few pics from Star Wars and Indiana Jones. Not autographed, but still very cool. Sad to see something unique to be taken away.
