We are looking at booking the Backstage Safari at AK. Has anyone been on that tour and if so, how was it? It sounds like it would be fun. Please let me know your thoughts.

Thanks. ::MinnieMo

I went on this tour several years ago and just loved it!

Disclaimer: I'm such an "animal person" that I've been volunteering at my local zoo for 15 years, so I may be biased. In fact, I may be pickier than most folks because of my access to animals at my zoo!

I thought this tour was very well done. You learn tons of things about how they prepare the food for the animals, info about their day-to-day care (including veterinary care), see some animal holding areas and usually get to get pretty close to an animal or two. We saw the rhino area and got to get very close to one that was "offstage" in his pen. We also got to see a cute little baby croc (they brought it into the room at the end of the tour).

I would highly recommend this tour!

I really enjoyed it as well. It's important to keep in mind that it's focused on the care of the animals rather than the animals themselves, though we did get to see a rhino that was in her holding stall. I love animals and all of the backstage going-on's as to how they're properly cared for so it was right up my alley. :)

It was wonderful!!
Plan on doing it again with BFF when we go.

It's a great tour, as are all of the various tours. If you book it, make sure to ask for discounts... AP, DVC and AAA (sometimes) 15%, Disney Visa 20%.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot about discounts. I have a Disney Visa card. I am really anxious to get started booking my dinning reservations and tours. This will be my first time to book a tour. We are really excited. Thank you for all the input. We really appreciate it. :tink:
