We are going in January. I was thinking, what happens if there is a snow storm here in NC and we can't make it down to FL or if one of my kids is sick. Would I lose all my money?
Do most people get insurance?

We always buy the insurance, even though DH & I have never used ours, my Mom had to use hers on our DCL trip last year. My younger sister got really sick and they quarantined her to her room for 2 of the 3 nights. The insurance gave her part of the $$ back, so it was worth it...even though the trip was ruined.

We usually don't (and I would be willing to be the more people don't than do but I have nothing to back that up). We did buy it for our upcoming trip, since we will be cruising and felt the extra medical coverage was important for us and our ds since we will be out of the country. Mousesavers has information on how to decide if you should buy trip insurance here: http://www.mousesavers.com/misc.html#tripins
They also recommend looking at insuremytrip.com for a policy that suits your needs rather than buying Disney's expensive insurance:
Disney sells trip insurance, but it's expensive and it has major exclusions. For instance, it does not cover pre-existing medical conditions, most airline delays, terrorism or unemployment -- but there are many policies available from other companies that will cover these things. You can almost always get better insurance than Disney provides, and at better rates, by buying it elsewhere.
