As quickly as our offer to contract to title and estoppel has gone (12/18 offer accepted) Im not actually sure if were closed or not because no one has told me the closing date or if we closed. I know the closing docs were sent back by the seller last week and they cashed our check.
Does that mean were closed?

No, it does not mean that you closed. I would check out the OC comptrollers website to see when it was registered with them. That to me is the official closing. Congrats and welcome home!

Cashing the check would be part of closing. I’d say you’ve “closed,” but check the deed records site to see if you’re deed is posted yet.

You have probably closed, but the deed may not be recorded yet. Go to http://or.occompt.com/recorder/eagleweb/docSearch.jsp . As others have said, look on the OC Comptroller site. Put in a range for the dates and your name in the either party box as it was submitted on your documents. Once the deed is recorded, it will show up here. Within 2 weeks, the points should show up in your account and get your member number..

I think this is a confusing question. When you buy a house, the "closing" is the appointment where buyer and seller meet, sign documents, and seller gets checks. When you leave the office that day, the "closing" has ended but the seller has not cashed the checks yet and the documents have not been recorded in the municipality office yet.

I think a better question is - why do you need to know? If you want visual confirmation of ownership, then it's when you see the recorded deed on the website. If you are just joining DVC and you want to make reservations, that's a different issue.

Actual closing date is the date on the deed. That is the date when ownership of the property actually transfers from the seller to you. If your check was made out to the title company, the title company needs your check to clear so funds are in their account so that they can then pay the seller. So chances are, if your check cleared, the got the signed docs back from the seller and released funds to them. I would start stalking the OCC site like, tomorrow.
