I know there was a lot of rule changes but I did not realize you could now put a reservataions for rent out for several months ahead of time. When did this change?

After the rule changes that required posters to have 50 active posts spread out evenly over a 6 mos. period, the rentals died. Literally no activity. So the owners of this board saw fit to allow reservations for rent again for $200/annually. Other posters that had not met the 50 post requirement could buy in at $25/annually to list points for rent. Now even further changes were made where NO ONE can request a points transfer. You can come to your own conclusions on this....

Just to clear up the inaccuracies and exaggerations...

There was "literally" still activity, just not at the same level found in years past. Reservations within 30 days of arrival were and still are welcome to be posted, without any cost, by anyone meeting the posting requirement. For those unable/unwilling to make an average of 2 posts per week, payment options have been offered - including a Premium option allowing existing reservations more than 30 days from arrival. Thus far, only one person has opted for that option. That option became available on April 18, 2011.

As for transfer requests, they most definitely allowed. Anyone, without regard to number of posts or the need to pay, is welcome to make such requests by simply responding to any thread where the OP has offered to transfer their points. Any poster willing to transfer points to other DVC members is welcome to offer on our Rent/Trade board and there is no cost to do so providing they meet the posting requirement.

I was surprised that someone was allowed to rent out a Thanksgiving AKV club level reservation. I thought they had to be within 30 days from check in for that.

A holiday reservation several month out:confused: So those people planning on renting out their reservations are going to be able to book prime times and advertise on the Dis. I totally agreed with the 50 point rule, allowing this not so much.

I want to see if I understand this correctly. If You want to post a reservation for rent prior to 30 days do you have to pay for a premium membership? Can you post without paying if you are posting 50 times in the last 6 months? I thought as long as you were a contributing member you would be able to do everything that the paying members can?

Only the Premuim level (about $200) paid members can off a reservation more than 30 days prior to check-in, and they are limited to 3 such reservations per year.

The DIS has never before allowed existing reservations to be offered more than 30 days out. This is a new option for those willing to pay the price.

Those meeting the requirement of 50 posts spread evenly over the prior 6 months may offer their existing reservations 30 days or less from check-in, just like the Gold level paid memberships.

As Doc indicated, so far only one person has chosen the Premium membership option since April 18th.

For more info, please see the **REQUIRED READING** sticky thread on the Rent/Trade board.

I think the only reason you have only seen one so far is the option is new. I have to wonder how many and long after Christmas and Thanksgiving 2012 booking window opens that we will see.

Probably not too many, while the ability to offer existing reservations is new to the DIS, many other Disney fansites have always allowed it and do not charge a usage fee or have posting requirements. I think most people that have habitually reserved and rented holiday reservations will continue to use those sites rather than pay the DIS fee. It is an option, but one that I think will not be heavily used.

You haven't looked at Redweek have you?

Plenty of Xmas/NYE/Easter/President's Day/Thanksgiving rentals every year.
