Did the Prizematron go on vacation???

I havent heard from the Prizematron in awhile and was wondering if it left town Did it send a postcard? Will it be back?

My guess is that Julie will catch it all up when she returns at the end of the month (I think that's when she comes back). By the way, Julie, you are SO lucky to have such a lengthy maternity leave...I only get 6 weeks this August. Hope you are enjoying every bit of it!

Wow! The legal minimum of paid maternity leave in the UK is 26 weeks! You can have up to a year away from work and they have to keep your job open, but as unpaid after 39 weeks I think.

Anyway, I hope Julie comes back to the podcast soon, we don't mind a bit of Finley gurgling!

We have something called family leave here in the US. They have to hold your job without pay for 90 days. But I believe there is a time limit for how long you have to have been working at the same job before it kicks in. And of course not many people can afford to take off for three months without pay. This was very helpful to us back in 2000 when we lost our daughter. My husband was able to take some time off to grieve and not have to worry about losing his job. It made a very difficult time in our lives easier in that aspect.

Some jobs do provide a longer maternity leave. It all depends on the company you work for. Federal Law sets the minimum that all companies must provide.

I haven't heard the prize-ma-tron since before Christmas. I do miss the

"you have won....." Maybe John is trying to keep Pete from giving away too many prizes. They did use to have a least one a month from the emails that month.


As for Maternity leave here in Canada we get 52 weeks. Paid as long as you actually had a job before you had a baby. Though it does cause and issue if you get pregnant while on your maternity leave because you have to work 16 weeks to qualify for payment while on mat leave.

My maternity leave has lasted 9 years and three kids later. Too bad I only got paid for the first year off.
