I just started playing with numbers, here is what I did.
I used prices with tax off Mousesavers. I used the reg prices not advanced purchase (I noticed that too far in to start over).
We are going in October and I am planning 5 park days.. but there are two rest days planned and I think it is very likely we will go into parks six days this trip. I consider 8 park days perfect so my calculations were for 14 total days. We like to park hop and I will use pluses at least twice for each trip (assumption: this is the break even point for buying discounted individual DQ and water park tickets). So I priced out 14 days with hopping and pluses avaliable for both trips.
Possible ways to get 14 days.
10+4- need only add hopping and pluses to 10 day ticket, and no expire to 10 day ticket. 406 (fully loaded 10 day)+197 (4 day base ticket)= $603 (if I value the 5 pluses at $45. price per day is $40 and I have to keep careful track of tickets as only 4 hopping days on second trip or add hopping bringing cost per day up to $42.50)
Ok lets try 7+7 because much less to add no expire to 7. Again only need pluses on 1st ticket and no expire. Hopping on both.
212+85+55+212+40= 604 (within pennies per day as first, $5940 a day)
Finally a straight 6+8, both tickets w hopping and pluses (gives extra pluses but I might not use them so I am going to value the pluses at $45 total for comparrisons sake)
209+85+215+85=594 ($39.20 a day and no needing to keep track of hopping vs not hopping tickets plus getting 9 plus days, I only valued the pluses at $45 (not $90) so if I use more than 5 total pluses my price per day goes down more) We have a winner. I am surprised.
That said the 10 day fully loaded ticket is
$406 if you subtract $45 for the pluses it becomes 366 or $36.60 a day. That is your best value, if 5 days per trip is what you do. Also I did consider the possibility of a price increase. But with a 5% increase I still am equal to other options with the 3rd choice. I do not know if there is any historic data on price increase averages but I bet the new structure would make them meaningless anyway.
I really wanted the 10 day no expire to 'win' because I know if we have tickets around we will go back sooner. Silly really since DH has never said no to me about a vacation.
