Did not get paid

I do some payroll (I give a transmittal to the payroll department for one of the many companies owned by my employer). I know we have 2 business days to have the last paycheque in hand otherwisw the labour board and unions would be fining us. As far as references, we can only confirm employment, dates and wage.

Based on past personal experience I would call the department of labor right away. It's been over a year and I still haven't been paid.

I worked for a school district the 2009-2010 school year. We had a reduction in force (layoff), and my position was cut. My last day of work was sometime in early June, my last paycheck was the end of August because our salary was 12 paychecks a year (the end of the month Sept-August). Just saying that it is very possible not to get everything owed to you within a few weeks of leaving a job.

To OP, I hope you didn't have to file a complaint and that you were paid.

just curious-isn't that an option the employee chooses? I only ask b/c everyone I know who works salaried for a school district always gets that as an option (and I don't know a single one who opted for just being paid for the actual school year w/no summer paychecks coming in). I also know lots of hourly paid district employees who would love to opt for it, but since hourly can vary month to month it's impossible for payroll to do it. in either case-if an employee's position was cut (and it was a given there would be no position for them to move into) the employee got all of their final pay (and any pay out eligible accruals) within whatever that state's guidelines required.

on a side note-OP did you get your pay today?

I work for a school district and we do NOT have the option of just being paid for the school year if we are full time and part timers can't extend their checks over 12 months.

No, I was not given the option. It was a hardship working two months before my first paycheck on the front end. There was a provision for that, I had to apply to be able to get some of my salary after working one month instead of two.

that stinks.

w/my former employer unless a new employee had something to carry them over it could be up to a month before someone got their first paycheck-and that first paycheck more often than not was allot less than they anticipated. our payroll was on a calendar month and paid on the 10th of the following calendar month but employees could opt to get 1/3rd of their gross as an advance on the 25th of the current month SO LONG AS they had already earned a certain percentage of their monthly salary. so if someone got hired after about the 8th of the month they wouldn't meet that percentage so no 25th check, and then when their first paycheck finally got issued on the 10th of the next month SURPRISE-the union took a hefty chunk as the initial membership fee and the first month of dues. I ended up in that situation, and I had co-workers who started a bit later in the month so in their case the 10th of the month check could be almost zeroed out, and they wouldn't be getting another check until the 25th of the month following the month they started (yeah, landlords and mortgage companies are understanding about that-not).

So I look in my bank account and no deposit. I text my former boss and she said she forgot. Even though I handed in a time sheet and even reconfirmed with her via text the day before.
She said she wont be able to pay me until the owner comes back on Monday.

So, did you get paid?

No I did not get paid! Surprise surprise. I even went to the office and tried to get paid that way. The owner said I would not get paid until the 30th. I requested screenshots of my payroll and he denied them. Im just at a loss of words with this company.

Why not until the 30th? What was his reason for that? What do you mean you requested screenshot of your payroll?

Also, if you were still working there when would you have been paid for the period ending August 28?

Hes reason for not paying me yesterday was that it would cost him money to run a payroll just for me. I asked that when he does my payroll to send me a picture of him inputting my information into the system so I have proof that I will be paid.

They pay biweekly So I am owed money from the 25th through the 28th of August plus 40 hours of vacation time. I should have been paid on the 15th.

You get paid on a Tuesday? That's odd. Did he say why he didn't run it through on the pay cycle?

Baloney
My boss could do a paycheck anytime
A lot of companies don't anymore. Everything is centralized, and they do checks every 2 weeks, or not at all, and when there are legal reasons that they have to, like their fire someone, it costs them extra.

That not right since it was your employers fault they messed up they should go ahead and pay you and not make you wait longer

She was due the check on the 15th
It's their error

I take back what I said earlier--I'd formally complain complain complain.

Tell them you are filing a complaint with the Labor Board
It's their error- a check should be issued ASAP

If you were still with them - do they really think an employee can go a month without wages?

Time to do what YOU need to do. You gave them a chance to fix it, and even explain it in person and they didn't. Kick it up a notch.
