I asked for advice for types of clothing to take on this trip. Did no one wear any clothes?:goodvibes

Can't speak for Viva Italia.. But we wore clothes on Knights and Lights. :lmao:

Mostly casual clothes shorts/capris (for Church visits)/t-shirts/cotton blouses. Some dressed up a bit for the night we saw Mary Poppins (now Lion King). By dressing up, my daughter and I wore a skirt and a blouse, but some on the tour wore cotton pant and most of the kids wore shorts.

Hi Toby, I have been watching for replies to your question as well. I have read in the last year in one of the travel books for Italy "if you plan on visiting our churches, leave your tank tops and shorts at home". I also read a trip report that one gentleman had to tie his overshirt around his thighs so that his knees would be covered and he could enter the church.:rotfl:
My husband spent a month in the Venice-Vincenza area several yrs ago and told me that Italians, though casual, do not dress nearly as casual as Americans. Since our ABD trip is in mid-late June, I prefer to take looser/lightweight summer skirts [rather than shorts], couple sets of capris. These are items that I KNOW I will be comfortable in. I realize this doesn't answer your question but I feel better just making the decisions. I hope you have a wonderful trip no matter what you decide to pack. Ciao:wave:

I did Viva Italia in late summer. In Tuscany the days are hot but the weather cools down a lot in the evening. Casual clothes are fine. Its true in some of the churches for both women and men there is a certain clothes to wear. Wear clothing that you feel comfortable traveling around in and walking with to. I wore casual mens pants and shorts that were light weight for the summer. I took a sweater for the evenings. :goodvibes Enjoy your trip!

Thanks everyone for your clothes advice!! I now know what to pack!!

I've been looking to see what people wore, too!

(Thanks, Steve!):goodvibes I have heard that most of it is casual, but maybe not overly casual. I will bring one pair of slacks for each boy and shorts for the rest, do skirts and capris for me. OH.....I wish it were close enough I could start laying things out!:lovestruc

3P, it's less than 100 days to go. Can't wait!I have been reading, planning and dreaming for weeks!Looking forward to meeting you in May!:wave2:

I have been trying to figure out what to bring (as far as amounts of things)since there seems to be limited availability to do laundry and I am trying to keep luggage to a minimum. We will have a few extra days on both the front and back ends of the trip. Anyone with advice?:confused3

When it gets closer to time, we'll make our own dress code.;) I figure with your group and my five, we probably make up over 1/4 of the group!:rotfl:

Although we didn't do the Vivia Italia, we did do the Disney Mediterranean cruise and I can confirm that the Italians are very particular what you wear when you visit the churches. Visitors must have both their shoulders and their knees covered. In some instances, you might get away with long walking shorts (just above the knees), but no one was allowed in with bare shoulders. So don't chance it. Personally, I never wore shorts, except on the ship ...long slacks or pedal pushers while on tours.
