Ok - on another board someone was telling me that annual pass holders get a 30-40% discount on their hotel stay 20% on food and 20% on stuff in some stores DD and in the parks.

so I worked it out and over a 14 night stay if we combine the annual pass and get the dining plan as well by paying for 1 day park pass we would actually end up saving money even though we would be paying for an additional day in the park.

is that right?

14 days regular rate at River side is $165 per night plus $40 per day for the dining plan and a 10 day park pass with upgraded to 14 when we got there approx $450 per person = $4330

Annual pass for 2 $868 plus $119 plus 1 park day at $60 plus $80 per day for dining = $2846

PLUS we would still have to buy breakfast but with the AP we would get 20% off.

Did I calculate it right?

Also
If we bought the Annual Pass in April before we went down is it still good the following January? Is it 365 days no matter when you buy it or is it a calendar year?

We could actually save a lot of money if we combined the annual pass with the dining and hotel that we could actually go twice in one year.

The 20% off refers to the DDE, Disney Dining Experience card which is available to AP holders. It costs an additional $60. Also the room discounts are not guaranteed. There are a limited number of rooms at discounts and it's only at certain times of year. Just to make sure you are clear with all that.

And your AP is valid from the day you activate it not the day you purchase it.

Hi there,

Did you calculate the room on your second set of calculations? $165 less your AP discount x 14 days? I would also go with a more conservative discount, say 20 - 30%. I may have read along the way that having an AP is not a guarantee of a room discount, but only offered at different times, mostly value season. So you might want to look into that a bit more. Also, I believe an AP is good for the 365 days, not based on a calendar year. I heard of people going in say, April 2007 then plan another trip for Jan. 2008. Also, you need to purchase the dining discount card with the AP, I think it's going up to about $60?? Not sure. Someone will correct me.....

You can only purchase the dining plan as part of a non discounted room package (only exeception is there seems to be some AAA TA's who can get AAA discounts of the room portion of the package for thier clients).

You can't combine an annual pass room discount and a dining package purchase.

10 day park pass with upgraded to 14 when we got there

There is no such thing as a 14 day Magic Your Way ticket. :confused3

Please, please, please don't purchase an annual pass unless you intend to use it for what it is for, which is an annual pass into the Disney theme parks!

I've seen one too many people purchase it just for a "discount" that never came. I mean you don't buy a car because it comes with a free lipstick. :upsidedow

Annual pass for 2 $868 plus $119 plus 1 park day at $60 plus $80 per day for dining

You lost me here, but if you are saying $80 because you are calculating the cost of the dining plan, sorry OntFamily is 100% right, you can not purchase the dining plan if you are using an annual passholder discount. It's one or the other.
