did I make the right decision?

I just switched our preferred room to standard at POP and requested a room from 5425-5436. I hope some DISer can tell me if I made the right choice or should rethink the room. I want something quiet, and close to the buses.

I am not sure exactly where those rooms are located, but I can tell you that I stayed at POP on 3 separate occasions, nonpreferred, and I had great locations all 3 times. I was in the 50's twice and the 70's once. I always request 50's or 70's facing the lake. One of my stays was for 1 night before DVC and I know they put me in a preferred room. My favorite location was facing spaceship earth.

We have stayed at Pop many times. I think the best way to request is to choose a decade (like 70's) instead of requesting specific room #'s. When you're dealing with a large value resort you need to keep your requests simple. Being too specific could result in not getting anywhere near where you want to be.

This is true for every level of resort.

If those few rooms are all spoken for on your check-in day, the room assigner has no way of knowing why you want those rooms. As a result, you'll just get any old room anywhere at time of check in.

The very best way to request a room is to put into very simple (and very few!!!) words what sort of location you want. I don't know Pop at all, so here's just a hypothetical example: "First floor away from parking lots."

While you choice of room locations is sensible, you have just limited yourself to twelve out of 2,880 rooms, or less than half a percent of the available room stock.

Even expanding your request to what I stated above only doubles your pool, so you're still limiting the room assignor to less than 1%.

CleveRocks is right - it's possible all twelve or twenty-four of these rooms will be occupied when you check in. Then what? Whatcha gonna do when the new wears off and the old shines through, when it ain't really love and it ain't rea... sorry, country music lyrics
