did I make a mistake?

We were originally booked for 2 standard rooms at the polynesian. There are 7 adults and 1 infant. We thought it would be better to get a 2 bedroom villa. We really wanted Bay lake tower but they didn't have a military discounted room available. So we booked a 2 bedroom villa at wilderness lodge, using the military discount. We are saving about $1250.00 but with all the construction going on there, I don't know if I made a mistake

I wouldn't sweat it! You will be in and out a lot, and saving $1250 will go a long way!!

Construction happens between 9:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Assuming you can find things to do during the day, you should be happy with an extra grand in your pocket. Enjoy your trip.

Each adult is paying for themself, so I'm really only saving myself $180 :/
I think I'm most worried about the construction during the day time when the LO will be sleeping

Not sure what it is like now or when you are going. You may want to go over to the DVC board for some recent info. Hate to say this but when we went over there in Nov 15 it was a mess. Pool area was closed and scaffolding everywhere.

I believe that now the DVC area is done except for the quiet pool and the main pool is open. Work is being done on the south wing of the WL I think. I would check out the latest and make your decision from there.

Good luck!

IMHO, I would switch back. At Poly, you will get 4 queen beds and 2 day beds plus more convenient transportation to MK and EP. At VWL, you will sacrifice that extra Poly queen and 2 day beds for one pull out sofa. I would much rather be at Poly than VWL, especially with the VWL construction.

If I was choosing a resort, I would say this is a mistake. Construction is more than noise . It is lack of certain amenities, confusion, and stress. CM's feel the stress as well. If you truly are okay with disruptions and pool closures, and construction disruption, then keep the resort, but if you think that you will feel as though you are losing ambiance, or amenities, make the change.

I knwo that even minor disruption affects us in terms of construction, so I avoid those resorts like the plague.

I would make the change back as well. I think this degree of disruption would not be good for my vacation

I've recently staying during construction and did not find the amenities lacking, nor any confusion or stress. The resort was lovely and we enjoyed the pool. With less rooms available the hotel is quieter and much less busy. We were never bothered by the construction. Sure, the view was not a dream come true, but we weren't there to gaze out at the trees anyway. The only issue could be your little one trying to sleep during the day. I would check the WL DVC expansion thread and the WL thread to see where exactly you're staying in relation to the construction and possible noise.

^^^^This - Agree with this 100% ^^^^

Were you in the main lodge or the villas? I think it matters

I would switch back too. We've been dying to stay at WL but just won't do it until the construction is done.

I think any 2 bedroom would be much more comfortable for 7 adults than 2 regular bedrooms. Are you park commandos? Will you be spending the majority of your time at MK? Boardwalk could be a better option for you all as adults - Epcot's World Showcase is a short boat ride away and the restaurants and bars there could be more to the adult's liking.

Or Saratoga Springs gives you Disney Springs; Old Key West gives you 2 queens in the 2nd bedroom and a boat ride to Disney Springs and a great central location to MK, Epcot and DHS. Both of these are lower cost than other DVCs.

Or, if you want a quieter location and close to MK, think about a couple of Fort Wilderness cabins. Lots of amenities, boat ride to MK, nice and quiet with full kitchen and living room.

Well, I think a villa is preferable over two rooms. You get a full kitchen plus a living area, and a washer/dryer. I guess I would see if you could switch to a different villa. My preference is for AK, BC, or BW. I would take OKW or SSR as a last resort (literally :teeth:).

I highlighted what you said you booked which is a 2BR suite at the Villas section of the Wilderness Lodge. We were just there two weeks ago in a 1BR facing the construction and had no issues at all. As another noted, the construction hours are during the day only, and while we were there, they never started before 8 a.m. and were done each day before 5 p.m. No work was done on the weekend at all. No workers, no trucks, nothing.

Yes, during the day, you can hear a bit of construction noise, but unless we opened the balcony doors, we could barely hear the heavy equipment. Even standing out on the balcony, the noise was not terribly intrusive, and we had a room overlooking what used to be the courtyard/Hidden Springs pool area. I'd be far more worried about noise within the room made by others while a small child was attempting to nap than the noise outside. ;)

Certainly you won't have access to the Hidden Springs pool which no longer exists and is now the staging area for the construction, and you won't be able to take the nature trail that started by the bike/boat rental shop and followed the shore line of the lake. However, the main pool is going strong along with the new kids' splash area, and the paved path that heads toward Fort Wilderness likewise is open. As someone mentioned, the entire south wing of the main Lodge is closed and scaffolding does cover the entire length of that wing on the pool side; however, you won't hear any of that work in the Villas, only when you're at the main pool during work hours.

All the other services are open: Roaring Fork, Whispering Canyon Cafe, Artist Point, the Mercantile, the arcade, buses, boats, et. al. The small things that make the Lodge so endearing still exist, too. The music still majestically plays; the lanterns along the walkway still flicker; the crickets chirrup; the particular smell of the Lodge seemed enhanced; and the CMs were as friendly as any other time we've been there. In fact, one could argue that some, say the wait staff, might be friendlier since there are reduced numbers of people at the Lodge thanks to the south wing being closed and people being scared away by the construction, thus tips could be more scarce. Oh, and the geyser still goes off on the hour.

The Villas are my home resort, and I will admit to feeling a bit saddened by the reduction in some of the "wilderness" aspects of the Wilderness Lodge due to construction. Even as cynical as I can be about Disney's long-term plan for the new Villas, I will still admit that our week-long stay there was just about perfect. We had a wonderful room (the Villas rooms were all refurbished less than two years ago), and though the construction site wasn't gorgeous, the silver lining was that we had near perfect views (not all the trees are gone) of the Electric Water Pageant each night. Should you get a room on the non-lake view side, you'll have plenty of peace and quiet with a view of lots and lots of trees. Service was excellent; CMs were friendly; the food at Artist Point was topnotch; Roaring Fork still serves the best fresh, made-to-order Mickey waffles in the World; and the boats still run to and from the Contemporary and the Magic Kingdom. If you simply don't like being near construction, then that's a separate issue. However, if you're simply worried that the construction might be a major stress factor, I think you can put that idea to rest. Best of luck in your decision, and have a great trip!

I like the WL (haven't stayed in the villas) we stayed there a couple years ago, but with construction I would switch resorts. I hate staying at resorts when there is construction, I know construction must be done but generally I try to pick a resort that isn't undergoing major construction because I do spend a lot of time at the resort.

If you'll be gone majority of the day, then I'd stick with WLV, but if you plan to spend a decent amount of time in our resort room, using your balcony, hanging around the pool and just generally enjoying the resort grounds I'd switch back to the Polynesian or choose another villa if one is available. I've stayed at both and they are both lovely, so I think it really comes down to your touring style.

Thank you all for the responses. I'm still hesitant, I will admit. We definetly want a 2 bedroom villa. Normally we are at the parks all day long. But this is the 1st time going with the baby. So I know either my DH and I or the grandparents will have to take my DD back for an afternoon nap (which is why we originally went with poly). As of right now, she doesn't nap well in her stroller, hopefully she can pick it up while at disney, but assuming she will not, I'm expecting to come back to the resort for midday.

I'm hoping for fall discounts to come out. If it does, I can book BLT 2 bedroom villa which would solve all my problems.

I like the beach club but the 2 bedroom villas come with 2 pull down sofas, so instead of 1 person sleeping on the sofa, we would have 3. Which may not be a big deal but it is nicer having an actual queen bed.
