Did I make a mistake?

I just changed my reservation from the Lodge Concierge at the GF to a Lagoon View Concierge at the Poly? Did I make a mistake? I have two kids, 4 and 6, and I thought the Poly seemed a little more "laid back" and maybe a little bit more "kid friendly." I'm concerned about the shape of the rooms at the Poly. My DH can't stand that stale hotel smell you have sometimes when you walk in some hotel rooms. Are the rooms O.K.? I just called the Poly and requested to stay in the Hawaii building, 3rd floor. He informed me the 3rd floor is a "smoking optional" floor and I'm concerned about the smoke smell too. We really wanted to stay at either the GF, Poly or Contemporary because of the monorail. Any opinions?? Also, to all you airline employees - in case you don't know, you can get a 50% discount on the room rates. We got a GREAT deal!

I think you made the perfect decision, especially with the kids. We stayed at GF last year when we went w/o the kids, and although it's beautiful, it was too stuffy for us, I couldn't imagine how I would have felt had we had the kids. The Polynesian is amazing. It's beautiful and very kid friendly. I haven't stayed there in a long time, but every trip to Disney, we spend a lot of time at the Polynesian and everyone is great with the kids.

As far as the shape the rooms are in, I've heard nothing but great reviews from recent visitors. Even the smoking optional rooms can be desmoked if you specifically request it. Have a great time, I'd kill for the Hawaii, LV, but we'll have to save that for a future trip. I'm just thrilled with GV for our June trip.

The Hawaii building is the concierge building, so you will certainly get it. I was there in September and it's fabulous!! The rooms are clean and well taken care of. My 4 year old loved the Poly. The monorail access was worth every penny. If you are celebrating a birthday/anniversary, etc, let the concierge staff know. They set out cake, balloons and party hats for my birthday. You made a great choice and your kids will love the volcano pool!!
