Did I make a mistake with Allstar Sports?

I've booked 6days at the Allstar Sports resort, mostly because my husband and son are huge sports fans and it fits into our budget. I'm kind of getting scared with the negative feedback about the "value" resorts. I want this trip to be GREAT!!(and I'm sure it will be) and my thoughts at booking were that we would be on the go for the full 6 days, that it didn't matter what the rooms were like, as long as they are clean and comfortable. Any positive experiences out there???

IMO AS SP has one of the best food courts and the bus service is excellent. The football field is great for the playing catch or messing around. We had a great time when we stayed there in 2000 and you can't beat the price! Enjoy.

Yes. I stayed there for my honeymoon (football theme). I thought I would hate it, since I"m not a football fan, and I thought it would be tacky. But I actually loved the hotel. It's cheap, bang for the buck, but much better than any of the offiste hotels I've ever stayed in (even outside WDW).

Good things I love about AS -
1. The bus service is THE BEST, because they've the most # of buses running for these 3 resorts and they come very very frequently.
2. They have pizza delivery at night, so even if you arrive home late, you can still have a snack.
3. We loved the refill mug (saved us sooooo much money).
4. It's not stuffy.
5. There are a number of screaming kids during the day, but our wing is quiet.
6. Really part of the WDW magic.

Don't change your reservation. :)

My brother-in-law and his family just returned from All Star Sports this past Saturday and said they really enjoyed it. They have two boys and they really enjoyed the theme of the resort. I saw their pictures and the giant baseball and bats looked really fun!

I stayed at ASSp last November and loved it. Your husband and son who are sports fans will also loveit. Make sure to buy mugs! They are expensive, but you can use them all 6 days and then drink from them at home.

Here is my review:
Robin's Confessions of a Resort Snob

Thanks for reassuring me!! How expensive is expensive for the mugs?? Do you remember? Can they be used everywhere(parks, cruise...) or is it worth buying a case of water or juice to keep in the room and carry with us?:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

The mugs are $9.99 each and can only be used at the All Star resorts. You can refill them for free as many times as you want while at ASSp or any of the other All Star resorts. They cannot be refilled in the parks :(. Juice and milk are not included. We brought a collapsable cooler and filled it with ice, milk, beer and juice. I filled my DD's sippy cup with milk or juice in the morning before we went to the food court for breakfast. My DH and I filled up with free coffee once there.

I have stayed at many of the Disney Resorts from Contemorary and Animal Kingdom Lodge to moderates and the All Stars. Even though we love the Animal Kingdom Lodge, the All Stars really make you feel like you are at Disney World. Most of the other resorts are great for relaxing themed fun, but the value resorts give you that real energetic, wide open, lots of fun feeling.

My husband and kids really love the All Stars the Best, because it isn't stuffy and you get treated just the same as if you were staying at a deluxe resort as far as how the CM's treat you. In fact, out of all of our many trips we have actually gotten the best treatment, more attention from the maid service, autographed pictures of the Disney Characters, and help with any accommodations we asked for. We have been granted late check out, our choice of room more often, early check in, etc....

One caution though, for some reason it is very easy to accidently lock the bathroom door and if you don't realize you did and then shut the door, you can inadvertantly lock yourself out of your bathroom. One of my sons did this and when we woke up the next morning and really had to use the facilities we couldn't! Maintenance came right away and had several other rooms to go to for the same problem.

Enjoy your stay.

Sam

We stayed there last June and loved it. I had some concerns since on previous trips we had stayed at a deluxe and moderates. We stayed in the baseball building which I believe is the furthest from the food court and buses (about a 3-5 min. walk). The baseball pool, though, was less crowded than the surfing pool. Our room was very quiet.

The room was a little smaller than the moderate resorts, but it was fine for our family of 3. The mousekeeping was just as good, if not better, than any other resort we stayed. Every day upon our return from the parks, my DD's stuffed animals would be arranged differently and brought a huge smile to our weary faces.

The food court selections were good tasting and reasonably priced. The food court was crowded at meal times, though.

I agree, of all the resorts I've stayed, AS has the best, quickest bus service.

I also think it is definately worth it to bring as much of your own drinks/snacks as possible. Even in our small room I had a little "kitchen" set up with my coffee maker, cooler, cereal, oatmeal, chips, etc. A little effort saved a lot of $$ that trip.

I have stayed at all 3 AS and loved them each time. I agree with all the positives posted above. The only negatives:

-Rooms are small but if you are only using the room to sleep, shower and change, then don't worry

-There are alot of Kids, and they can be loud late at night.

-At least once during each stay a pool was closed because of a child going to the bathroom in them.

We have stayed at the all star sports 5 times now...three of the weekends being in this past month.

AS sports (all the all stars), have got to be the best laid out resorts on all of disney property. The main building, bus stop, food court, pool, laundry room are not more than a minute walk away..and that is if you are in the furthest building back like we were. We loved it. Parking is good as well. Plenty of it and you should be able to be in a row very near your room.

There is nothing wrong with the AS Sports, they are great. The food court is wonderful...some of the best made to order pasta. Breakfast platter is very good. Actually everything we have there is good.

The rooms are clean, decor is definatley sports. The courtyards are adorable. We have stayed in the Tennis Ball building and the Surfs Up building on all our stays. Hubby wants to stay in the Football building next time...right below the Badgers sign.

Go and enjoy...we will probably be there again at the end of this month!

The pools are great...never over crowded..not even Memorial Day weekend when the resort was full to capacity.

We also love Mike...the bartender there at the Sports..he is great...makes an excellent drink and gives you a magic show as well.

All Stars is a great place to stay if you have kids and are on a budget.

Kids don't care as long as there's a pool and french fries.

We went when my son was 12 and he loved it. It wasn't my favorite hotel but it did not ruin the trip. We spent most of our time in the parks anyway. We found the resort to be clean. The food court was a typical food court. They had the mugs. We were in Surfs Up (before they charged extra) so we were close to everything. The bus was crowded but for the price we were paying I expected that.

If we went there again the only thing I would do different would be to not do laundry. We were there during a football tournament and the laundry room was packed. I had to get up at 5:30 to do laundry. Next time I would just pack another suitcase to avoid that.

Well thanks you guys!! I've been going back and forth, back and forth, trying to decide between CBR and ASSports. We are splitting our trip between two resorts this time, the Poly and now, thanks to you all, AS. Thanks for the reports. :sunny:

Just one more positive vote for the All Stars! I have stayed at Deluxe and Home away from Home resorts and found many plusses to staying at the AS resorts. The biggest one is the price. I would have to be extremely wealthy to justify spending so much more for a room, especially being from Canada, that exchange rate really kills you! (Parents were paying for nicer resorts) Bus service is better than anywhere else I have stayed, if you are not planning on driving, All Stars are great. The food court, convenience store, and arcade are all great, the bakery at the food court has some excellent choices, cheap too! (in WDW terms anyway!) At Sports we stayed in Hoops, which I think is one of the farthest ones. The walk was not long at all, it never seemed a chore to make this walk. Lots of neat theming too if you and your family are sports fans.

You can see from my signature, how many times we've stayed at SSSports. As a matter of fact, I'm even considering changing my reservaton from CBR back to ASSports, mainly because of the busses and food court.

We do the parks commando style, so bus service is important. Also, with 2teenage ds's, atmosphere isn't as important to them as getting to TOT or RNRR right away.

the rooms have all be refurbished and they look great. Food court is good too.

They also have a nice arcade, which ds's do while I'm packing, and I can always find things at the gift shop.

We've always had great CMs at check-in or with questions.

Also, we were at ASSports during Hurricane Floyd, and all the CMs were great during a very chaotic time.

Pixie dust to all!
