Did I just make a mistake? Switched from WL to Poly

I was able to switch from WL to Poly due to the construction at WL starting up (we are there Nov 1-4). I was a little nervous moving to Poly after reading last year about all the DVC work and noise, etc, but the GS CM stated that most of the construction at Poly was done with some minor work to be finished and that the new Poly lobby, volcano pool, etc were awesome and not to worry. Now I am researching Poly and see pictures of the Quiet pool construction where everything is totally torn up! As our category is Poly-SV I am nervous we will have one of those construction view rooms with lots of noise :(. Will the East pool be almost done by Nov 1? Should I call back and see about moving to yet another resort?? Very frustrating. TIA.

The East Pool won't be finished until the spring. If you do not want to be at a resort with construction, I'd switch. Everyone is different, but if I am paying Disney Deluxe prices, I don't want any construction period. But there are plenty of posts on here from people who stayed there recently and weren't bothered by it.

We did a the same move for around the same time (Nov 5-9 for us). There are many SV views at the Poly that will have no impact with the construction. Many people have reported that will the door shut you can barely hear anything. I imagine most of the jackhammer work and very noisy things are already done and it will be a lot of theme work and installation of the new pool and area.

Here now, in 3rd floor Fiji overlooking marina. It's gorgeous and we've seen zero construction, other than fences when we wandered to the other side of the resort to do laundry. Main building, pool/hot tub, Fiji all amazing!

It is unbelievable that there is still construction going on at the Poly. We always stay at the Poly. We changed to the YC in May of 2013 because of construction. We then canceled our entire trip last May because of the construction and went to USO instead. We are planning on going to the Poly this May, and now I have to worry again about construction. We stay in the Hawaii longhouse which is next to the quiet pool. I won't pay $1,000 a night to look at and listen to construction.

How long can it possibly take to replace a swimming pool?! I know it is themed, I know they are working around guests, but six months to replace the quiet pool?

We also requested Fiji looking at the marina, SV. Soooooo awesome!

We stayed at the Poly even when the main pool wasn't complete and walls were up in many places (the lobby was done though). We had a great time and just for the monorail to MK and Epcot with a 5 min walk, it was worth it. Now, the resort is in much better shape with construction near the east pool instead of the middle so if you stay on the other side, you might not even notice :) I say go for the Poly and don't regret it!

We did the same thing and I am still not sure. We had WL studio and then switched to Poly studio..for a trip in early Dec. Really wanted to save some $$ and do WL but not happening as I fear the construction there will be worse.

We've skipped the Poly, our favorite resort, for the past 2 years. IMO it really is ridiculous that they just didn't close down the resort completely during the construction. They could have finished it in a fraction of the time. I really can't come to any other conclusion that they did it the way they did out of pure greed. Guess it's "crying over spilled milk" at this point though. Our family can't wait to return but I won't consider it until the construction is finished.

Wow, I'm continually amazed that a little construction can make someone cancel a trip entirely or even ruin a trip. But I am also one who is not even a little bit bothered by it. We stayed in Raratouga in August. Construction on east pool was right by the building. We were on the opposite side from the construction and never heard a thing. Outside sure, we heard and saw the walls. But in no way did it but a damper on our trip or affect us at all. I'd still stay at WL too for that matter. Especially if I'm in the main building, not the Villas.

We were there last week for a night and I found the construction bothersome.
The pool was crazy packed w people and you could hear the construction while at the pool.
I wouldn't stay for a week there but just my opinion if I'm paying top dollar.

I was one who said on the other thread that I stayed at the Poly last week and it was so crowded and dirty at the pool. Had I known that it would be that way, I would've switched to WL in a heartbeat (my favorite resort). However, it's August, so the pool was probably as busy as it ever gets. In November, it won't be a problem. We stayed in Fiji and hardly noticed the construction.

We were there in December. Construction was everywhere...lobby, main pool, walls all over the place...It was bothersome especially when other resorts were decorated so lovely for Christmas. But we made the best of it and still had a fantastic time! We also were staying on a highly discounted rate of about $270 per night.

As far as our room, we requested Fiji beach view. They initially put us on the marina side but the main pool was a mess and there was equipment everywhere. I asked to be moved and they just moved us across the hall. We had a gorgeous view of the beach looking towards GF.

Completely agree with you, Disney is upfront about the construction and offers more than a one Deluxe resort. Canceling a vacation over minor construction at one resort seems silly to me.

I read a few months ago on Tikiman that he thinks they're going to do more than just the east pool. I think maybe a bar too? I can't remember the details. I just know the Poly is off our list until 2017. We've defected to the Grand Floridian!

That's great that it doesn't bother you, but at $400 a night I want all of the amenities available and I don't want to see construction. Period. In my opinion, which means nothing, Disney has too many great deluxe resorts from which to choose for me to spend hundreds of dollars a night on a resort with closed amenities and construction. We were at the GF in December and walked over to the Poly, and it was a mess.

It's not going to ruin my trip, or cancel an existing trip because I'm not going to book at a hotel that is undergoing major construction. There are too many other great options.

I'm actually continually amazed that people were totally happy spending hundreds and thousands of dollars the past two years to stay at the Poly, given everything that was torn up.

For us the switch was a no-brainer since our only options were Wilderness Lodge or Polynesian. We booked on a runDisney package and by the time we decided to book Yacht and Beach were no longer available. Saratoga was still an option but we aren't a fan of it. I decided having construction that I know the scope and such was the better gamble then one that is completely unknown.

We stayed there b/c my aunt won a trip and chose GF as her resort. She took two of my children as her guests so we wanted to be close by them. The GF was just too much $$ for us, and we were give a nice discount at the Poly. We didn't pay that much more than staying at a mod. So we were willing to overlook much of what was going on there. However, I would not have paid much more than we did. The resort looked like a bomb had gone off. I assume it's better now since the lobby and main pool are open, and they were both closed when we were there.

So, anyways, I wouldn't say we were 'totally happy' about paying that much to stay there during construction but we had our reasons.
