I have been lurking in this thread for a while, since I want to make some shirts for our upcoming Dec. trip. I read about the HP transfer paper and ordered some yesterday. It came today, but now I am not sure if I ordered the right thing or not and I can't find on the site where it describes it again.

The outside of the paper package says "Easy to create personalized transfers on light-colored fabrics". Did I get the light transfer paper by mistake or is it the dark kind. I don't want to open the package, in case I have to send it back. I thought for sure I clicked the dark transfer paper - but I can't tell from the package!! OOOOHHHHH I am sooo confused!

Thanks for your help!
Shannon

** I did end up getting the wrong thing from HP. I called this morning to get a return number and the info to send back the transfer paper. Turns out they just credited my account with the $34 that I spent and DON"T want me to send the transfers back. Really great customer service! :goodvibes Maybe it costs too much to send them back - so I just get to keep them?

Now I just need to figure out what to do with 36 white transfer sheets. :confused3

If you plan to put them on colored shirts then you will want the dark colored transfers, if you use the light colored ones (which you can) but the color of the shirt will often show through your design.

I remember reading that! :) When I looked at the website they only show one kind and I know I saw they had different kinds before. I thought for sure I was choosing the dark transfers. Will they say for dark shirts on the package?? :confused3

Thanks!!

i am looking at my hp transfers now that are for colored shirts and that is what it says on the cover for "colored fabrics" if you got them from hp direct they do sell both. I use them on all colors light or white, it gives a brighter, crisper image, imo. the white transfers look to me like a shirt that is a couple of years old and been thru many washings, dull and faded, hope this helps.

Thanks for the answer. Mine just says light colored fabrics and white. I think I will call HP and get the others! I would rather have the birghter colors!

Thanks

It also makes a difference on how you run the transfer too...light/white transfer--reverse or mirror image the design, dark--run just normal......good luck..

I think she meant "flip" -- you have to print the mirror image of the design for light transfers. :)

AHHHHHHAAAAA....that's probably it. It sounded like a typo, but for the life of me I couldn't figure out what it should be, thanks so much!

I'm so NOT creative I figured it was part of that secret language you creative types talk, lol.

No ConnieB, I am far from being a typist...sorry about the typo...no secret code here:)

Here's the difference - If I was going to print this DISign without the frame, I would print it on a white shirt and would use the light colored transfers. I would reverse it before printing it as that is what you do with the light/white shirt transfers.

I would print these shirts using dark transfers (following the directions that are listed somewhere on this thread) because I want the colors to stand out. (sorry for the large size, I don't know why it does that?)

(excuse the double names, I was sharing them with my friend to see what font she wanted)

Also, printers don't print white so with dark transfers, the where the white would be on a clear transfer will be the color of the shirt behind it. On a dark transfer, the transfers are white so where it is supposed to be white, it will be.

In this picture, my nephew's transfer is a light one (made by Amy/Mickey) and it was put on a white shirt so the white you see is from the shirt. all of the other Disigns, including the ones on the white shirts I cut out around the frame and the white you see is from the transfer. My DH won't wear matching shirts so his DISign is the manufacturer (LOL)

Hope this helps. Penny:hippie:

Thanks!! It does help. I love your DISigns, too. They are really cute. My DH is usually not a matching shirt person but decided that since we will be at DLR he just doesn't care! :confused3 Mostly because he says we will probably never see any of the people there again! :lmao:

I have all of my shirts now and just need to get the dark transfer paper since I have tons of white paper now! I have a few 40% off coupons for Michaels that are good for this week, so I will probably use those for the transfer paper.

Thanks everyone for all of your help and hints!

Help! I'm confused! You said the white won't show through, the shirt color will, and then you said the white would show through? How do I know which it will be?????

I have the dark transfer paper. This is the design I want to print on a pale pink shirt.

I don't understand whether the white in the G, A and N will come out white or if they'll be the pink from the shirt? I only want the letters and Mickey's to print not a white background square but I DO want the white of Walt's shirt from the letters G A and N to show as white.

Am I supposed to use the dark transfer paper in order to get the white in the letters????

Thanks!

If you want ANY white in your design and you are putting it on a pink shirt, you will need to use a dark transfer. But all of the white will be white - including the border around the letters and Mickey's.

Light transfers are clear, which means all white areas are clear - or the shirt color.

Dark transfers are white, which means that anywhere in the design that does not have color will be white.

Hopefully that is understandable.

Thanks Amy for making that clear. I reread it & I didn't understand what I said, one should not type when one is tired. :lmao:

Penny,
I often think as I type that it must sound 'clear as mud'. I hope this helps the OP.
