Did I get memory maker free? Pixie dust or my own confusion?

Ok so we check in 12/15 to POR and I just was looking over my reservation info and saw at the bottom a confirmation number for memory maker and it says "assigned to: linzjane88 ". I never added it on at the time of booking and this is the first I have seen of it.

We bought annual passes about a week before they did the changeup with price increases and the addition of "free" memory maker but I thought they were only giving you the MM if you 'upgraded' over to the new AP ticketing.

Did I miss something obvious or did I randomly get free memory maker?

It sounds like you did because I have the new AP with free memory maker and it isn't listed on my reservation info like a traditional MM would be.

Could someone in your friends and family list purchased it and assigned it to you? As a Christmas present maybe.

Did you activate your new AP when you bought it or when you checked in/arrived in WDW?

If you activated it when you arrived in WDW then they gave you MM free and changed your AP into the new type of AP (like they did for me last week).

Curious to know which AP level did you guys buy the normal AP or the Premium ?

We have the regular AP which we activated about the third week of September. I don't think anyone I travel with would have gotten it. I recently added my MIL's 3 day pass to my account (linked to her) so I could book FP with her. I know she wouldn't have bought MM willingly but I could see her accidentally buying it not knowing what it was. I know she purchased over the phone with a CM. I'll ask her in the AM. If it wasn't her though I have no idea where it came from.

We activated our AP around the same time as you. I have the MM added to my MDE randomly since then. Sometimes it is listed and sometimes its not.

I heard on a Disney podcast, not the Dis Unplugged, that someone with an existing AP got MM on their trip because the system doesn't have a way of determining if you have an old or new AP. I am not sure how true this is but I was going to test in January.

I would love to know if this is really true.

Did you have Memory Maker for a previous trip? Sometimes it hangs around for a while in MDE.
